    Rascal Flatts Claim Pandemic Gave Them Time to Think Over Farewell Tour

    Speaking about his country band’s scrapped ‘Farewell Life Is a Highway Tour’ due to COVID-19, Jay DeMarcus admits it’s been so hard on them since they did not get to say goodbye with their fans.

    Rascal Flatts are reconsidering their farewell tour, revealing the pandemic may have actually kept them together.

    The trio was forced to scrap its “Farewell Life Is a Highway Tour” when COVID-19 hit and shut down venues and festivals throughout 2020 and into 2021, and Rascal Flatts have yet to reschedule the dates.

    “It sucked, let’s be honest about it,” Jay DeMarcus tells Taste of Country Nights. “It’s been so hard to know that it was stripped away from us, and we didn’t get to go out on our terms, and we didn’t get to say goodbye and celebrate with our wonderful fan base. It’s been a hard thing.”

    He jokes, “[Some people have] blamed us for the pandemic, because as soon as we announced our farewell tour, the world blew up. So some people are like, ‘All you have to do is say you’re not going to retire and the world will go back to normal’. I wish that were the case.”

    But Jay admits the lockdown gave him and his bandmates time to reflect on their plans.

    “The way this year’s gone… it puts a lot of things in perspective, and really makes you take stock of things that are really, really important to you and the things that you just thought were important to you,” he says. “I think all of us are at this place right now to where it might not even be a farewell tour – who knows? We may feel compelled enough to go back out and do the music.”

    “I’m just speaking theoretically, but… 10, 15 shows a year, enjoy our Rascal Flatts music along with the other things we have going on in our lives?”

      AceShowbiz – Country stars Rascal Flatts look set to bow out as a trio without one final hurrah after having to cancel their farewell tour due to the coronavirus pandemic.
      The musicians had planned to enjoy one last run on the road to celebrate the group’s retirement with fans, but the 2020 “Farewell Life Is a Highway Tour” has now been officially axed – with no mention of possibly rescheduling the summer trek for the near future.
      In a social media post on Tuesday (May 19), the band states: “After a lot of difficult conversations that we never thought we would be having, we have decided that in the interest of the safety of everyone involved we will not be moving forward with our Farewell Tour.”
      Singers Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney, and Jay DeMarcus go on to explain they are planning other ways to mark their last year together, as they prepare to call it quits.
      “2020 is still an important year for us as a band and a milestone we want to celebrate with our fans, so please stay tuned for some fun surprises coming your way soon!”
      “We love you and can’t thank you enough for being on this journey with us! Thank you for understanding. Stay safe, Rascal Flatts”.

      The now-scrapped tour had been due to kick off in June, and wrap in Nashville, Tennessee in October.

      Ridden by rumors of discord since his band announced their farewell tour, bassist Jay DeMarcus assures that their upcoming split was not a decision they reached lightly.

      AceShowbiz – Country music stars Rascal Flatts faced a “very tough decision” to retire as a trio because the love they share for one another is stronger than ever.
      Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus recently announced they would be calling it quits as a band after a farewell tour this summer, and the singers are keen to make it clear the upcoming split isn’t due to any in-fighting.
      Asked about the social media rumours during a special Country Music Association event in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday, February 19, DeMarcus assured fans, “That’s really not the case. We love each other, probably more now than we ever did when we first started. We just got to this point in the road where it’s forking and we’re entering new seasons of our lives.”
      He added, “This is a decision that we didn’t reach lightly. It was a very tough decision and is going to be a very sad, bittersweet year, but it’s something we think is the best for our lives right now. We still all get along. We didn’t arrive in separate vehicles.”
      The “Here Comes Goodbye” hitmakers are set to begin their final run of shows in June, and they are already dreading the waterworks that will inevitably occur during their last scheduled concert, which will take place in Nashville in October.
      “It’s going to be really, really sad and it’s going to be emotional,” DeMarcus shared. “This time next year when there’s no tour planned and I can’t look over to my right and see my cousin (Gary) and Joe Don standing next to me, it’s going to be (tough)…”
      “This has been the (biggest) part of my life for most of my adult life. So it’s going to be a really sad thing. That’s all I can say.”
      Sharing his thanks to fans for their 20 years of support, Rooney added, “We’ve been one of the fortunate ones to do this for a very long time. It’ll be so bittersweet to play that last note on guitar and hear that last note down low on bass, hear Gary hit the stratosphere.”
      “There’s so much love and so much appreciation for everything we’ve gotten to do. It’s going to be an exciting year. It’s going to be a heavy year. It’s going to be, I think, an amazing journey this year of all the years we’ve been together. And I don’t know how I’m gonna feel (at the final show)… There’s a lot to be thankful for.”
