  • 'Riverdale' and 'Batwoman' Shut Down Production Due to Covid-19 Testing Delays

    The CW

The productions on the two comic book TV series have been halted along with several other shows like ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’, ‘Supergirl’, and ‘Chicago Med’.
    Oct 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – Production has reportedly shut down on U.S. TV shows “Riverdale” and “Batwoman” due to coronavirus testing delays in Vancouver, where the programmes are filmed.
According to Variety, there’s just a single lab company approved to oversee Covid-19 testing in British Columbia – where production opened in June (20) due to the Canadian province’s proficient handling of the containment of the virus – and they are prioritising schools and local businesses. Sources told the industry outlet that the shut downs are “assumed to be temporary”, and are likely to get up and running again once the testing backlog has cleared.
Production has also been delayed on “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” and “Supergirl”, both of which were scheduled to start filming this week, the outlet added.

Meanwhile, production on medical drama “Chicago Med” has also been suspended for the next fortnight, due to a positive Covid-19 test.
An NBC spokesperson told Entertainment Tonight that an individual on the set tested positive through a rapid test as part of the production’s regular coronavirus protocol, and immediately went home.
The representative added that the protocols and systems in place meant they were able to act quickly and that the pause in production won’t affect the delivery of the show on NBC.
Film and TV industries have been struggling to adapt to post-coronavirus world since lockdown was first imposed earlier this year. Many projects were either pushed back or called off as the industry was brought to a standstill due to the worldwide pandemic.

  • Lili Reinhart Likens Filming 'Riverdale' Amid COVID-19 to Being a 'Prisoner'

    CBS

The Betty Cooper depicter laments not being able to go home for Thanksgiving and visit her family when the cast and crew of The CW’s drama series resume filming of season 4 in Vancouver.
    Sep 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – COVID-19 regulations have made the idea of returning to the “Riverdale” set less thrilling for Lili Reinhart. Weeks after getting a call back to resume the production of season 4, the actress portraying Betty Cooper on the CW series got brutally honest about her concerns as she claimed that the filming precautions made her feel like a “prisoner.”
The 23-year-old opened up about the challenges of filming amid the coronavirus pandemic in an interview with Nylon. “I genuinely feel like a prisoner, going back to work, because I cannot leave Canada. That doesn’t feel good,” she explained why she felt conflicted about going back to work after months of production shutdown.
“You can’t go home for Thanksgiving, can’t visit your family,” the starlett went on pointing out in the profile piece published on Wednesday, September 2. “No one can come visit you unless they quarantine for two weeks. It just feels f**ked.”
Another of Lili’s worries was the fact that she had to get back to her shape before filming stopped back in March. “We stopped during the prom episode, so I have to fit back in that prom dress. While quarantine Five months later, we’re all going to be tan, maybe a little bit thicker,” she stated. “I certainly am.”
The “Hustlers” actress was also anxious about having to go right into the taping of season 5 with no break in between. “I’m very lucky, but it’s like, ‘I need to keep going. I need to keep going,’ ” she voiced her frustration.
Elsewhere in the chat, Lili, who has struggled with depression since she was 12, also spoke out about her mental health in the midst of this pandemic. “At the beginning of this pandemic, I felt very lost,” she confessed. “I felt very sad and hopeless, because of personal things that were happening in my life.”
The ex-girlfriend of Cole Sprouse continued, “Instead of distracting myself, f****ng random people and doing drugs and drinking my problems away, I chose the harder route, which was to not distract myself. I was like, ‘I’m not doing that. I’m going to go through the next however many months of s**t, pure s**t, awful, crying every day, but the necessary work.’ ”

  • Bernadette Beck Calls Out 'Riverdale' for Making Her 'Invisible'

    The CW

The English native, who joins the cast of The CW’s series since season 3 to play Peaches ‘N Cream, also claims in a new interview that she’s ‘made out to be a very unlikable character and therefore, an unlikable person in people’s eyes.’
    Jul 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Another “Riverdale” cast member is speaking against The CW’s series. Two months after co-star Vanessa Morgan called for more diversity on the show, Bernadette Beck got candid about her experience being one of a few black cast members on the show.
“I was made out to be a very unlikable character and therefore, an unlikable person in people’s eyes,” Bernadette, who plays Peaches ‘N Cream, a bisexual member of the Pretty Poisons, on the series told ELLE.com on Tuesday, July 28. She also criticized the way the series depicted her character.
“I get it, there’s always a protagonist and antagonist, but I never had much of a story plot or enough character development to even be considered an antagonist. I was, for no reason, depicted in a very negative, unattractive light,” she shared.
The English native went on to say that she’s “not the first black actress to show up on set, stand there, chew gum, and look sassy and mean. I feel like I was just there to fulfill a diversity quota. It’s just to fulfill points.”
Beck, who joined the cast since season 3, also claimed that she was treated as if she’s invisible on the set. “I was completely forgotten in the scene more than once,” she alleged. “The director [would] be walking off set and I’d have to chase them down because I had no idea where to stand, what to do — I just hadn’t been given any instruction.”
“You can’t treat people like they’re invisible and then pat yourself on the back for meeting your diversity quota for the day,” she said.
She went on to say that she initially didn’t understand how being a likable character was important. “Some people say it’s just a TV show, but I’m thinking about the implications long-term,” she explained. “If we are depicted as unlikable or our characters are not developed or we’re looked at as the enemy all the time, that affects our public persona. What kind of opportunities are we losing out on even after ‘Riverdale’?”

Beck took to her Instagram account to share her interview. “I have remained silent for far too long. We must come together as a collective to hold Hollywood along with our systemic oppressors accountable,” she wrote in the caption.

'Riverdale' Creator Promises Vanessa Morgan 'Change Is Happening' After Her Diversity Criticism

    The CW

The actress playing Toni Topaz on The CW’s teen drama series has previously voiced her frustration over the portrayal of black people as sidekick to white leads in the media.
    Jun 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Vanessa Morgan’s campaign about the lack of diversity in the media has been heard. Days after she voiced her frustration over how “black people are portrayed in media,” the actress known for her portrayal of Toni Topaz on The CW’s “Riverdale” received a public apology and a promise to do better from the show’s creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
On Thursday, June 4, Aguirre-Sacasa made use of Instagram to declare, “We hear Vanessa. We love Vanessa. She’s right. We’re sorry and we make the same promise to you that we did to her.” In the statement, he continued, “We will do better to honor her and the character she plays. As well as all of our actors and characters of color.”
The showrunner went on to note, “CHANGE is happening and will continue to happen. Riverdale will get bigger, not smaller. Riverdale will be part of the movement, not outside it.” He added, “All of the Riverdale writers made a donation to @BLMLA, but we know where the work must happen for us. In the writers’ room.”

Morgan made a public complaint about the unfair treatment of black people in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. On Sunday, May 31, she tweeted, “Tired of how black people are portrayed in Media, tired of us being portrayed as thugs, dangerous or angry scary people.”
The “Geek Charming” actress continued expressing her anger in the same post, “Tired of us also being used as side kick non dimensional characters to our white leads. Or only used in the ads for diversity but not actually in the show. It starts with the media. I’m not being [quiet] anymore.”
On Wednesday, June 3, the 28-year-old actress explained why she got vocal about the unfair treatment. “To my black fans, I have now made it my purpose to fight for us. To the six year old me who had no role model that looked like me on TV. This is for you,” she tweeted. “We aren’t your token black non dimensional characters. This is being black in Hollywood. I will fight for YOU.”

Vanessa Morgan explained reasons behind her fight for change in the media.
While she criticized the portrayal of black people in the media, Morgan stressed it has nothing to do with her “Riverdale” co-stars, which include Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, KJ Apa, Madelaine Petsch and Charles Melton. “They don’t write the show,” she pointed out. “So no need to attack them, they don’t call the shots & I know they have my back.”
