    101 Studios

The ‘Kill Bill’ actress talks about her experience of auditioning for a major role in ‘Mad Dog and Glory’ with the movie icon during her early career as a young star.
    Oct 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Uma Thurman once scooped a big film part because she was the only actress brave enough to “shove” her audition partner – movie legend Robert De Niro.
The “Pulp Fiction” star was only 20 when she read for a part opposite “The Irishman” actor in the 1993 comedy/drama film “Mad Dog and Glory”, but she did something ballsy at the try-out, which really grabbed the casting director’s eye.
“In the audition the character is trying to get through a door and he’s (De Niro) not letting her get through the door,” Uma explained during an appearance on “Live with Kelly and Ryan”.
“So finally, I just shoved him. And that’s why I got the part – I was the only one who would shove him. (I thought,) ‘Gotta get through the door so get outta the way.’ Because no one would do that.”

Uma still can’t believe she was brave enough to get physical with the acting icon, because she felt “completely intimidated” by him, but the experience of making “Mad Dog and Glory” was one she’ll never forget.
“He was… one of the most impactful people I worked with when I was really young,” she adds.
And best of all, she has teamed up with the movie legend again in new movie “The War with Grandpa”.
“I play his daughter,” the actress said. “He doesn’t want to be alone so she moves him in with their family and he takes over the room of his grandson – and that’s the war.”
Thurman is much less scared of Robert these days, now she’s a movie star herself, adding, “It was wonderful to work with him again.”

The special took place on YouTube and Facebook at 6 pm ET, with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Martin Short, Kieran Culkin, and George Newborn all reuniting to bring back their original characters from the 1991 film.
However, there was also a handful of fresh stars added into the mix, with Robert, Ben, Florence and Alexandra Shipp delighting fans by taking part in the special.
Florence starred as the youngest Banks child, Megan, and Ben was Georgie, Annie (Kimberley) and Bryan’s (Steve) now-grown son. Robert made an appearance as Alexandra’s father in the reunion as she had a virtual wedding with Kieran’s Matty Banks.

The short film, hosted by Netflix, brought awareness to the World Central Kitchen, and is one of many reunion specials raising money and awareness during the Covid-19 crisis.
The original movie revolved around an overprotective dad struggling to come to terms with his daughter’s surprise engagement. The 1991 romcom was a remake of the 1950 movie of the same name. A sequel followed in 1995. Both were directed by Charles Shyer.
Producer Nancy Meyers first teased the upcoming reunion earlier this month. The filmmaker posted on Instagram the movie’s poster along with a caption, “If he thought a wedding was a lot, how would he react to 2020? Coming soon to the phone in your hand!”
After the reunion, she wrote, “Thank you for all your wonderful comments yesterday!” and called it “Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish).”

Robert De Niro Likens New York to Ghost Town in Sci-Fi Movie Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

    WENN

The ‘Irishman’ actor calls the ongoing coronavirus pandemic ‘surreal’ and compares the global health crisis to the scary scenes in Hollywood science-fiction movie.
    May 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Robert De Niro has compared the coronavirus pandemic to a science-fiction movie, calling the situation “surreal.”
“The Goodfellas” star is currently in lockdown in New York, and told BBC Newsnight it’s “very strange” to be in the Big Apple while the streets are so unusually quiet.
“New York is kind of like a ghost town,” he shared. “But then it’s surreal. Then you see other parts of the world, other big, great cities of the world are also in the same situation. It’s interesting.”
“It’s kind of like a science-fiction movie, but it’s real, you know.”
Reflecting on the leadership in the city during the crisis, he praised Governor Andrew Cuomo for doing a “great job,” adding, “He’s done what (President Donald) Trump should have done, but he doesn’t have a clue how to do that. So it’s scary, because everyone is sort of nonplussed and stunned at what this guy is doing.”
The actor also reflected on the possibility of the coronavirus crisis influencing a new generation of movies, with “The Irishman” star musing, “For some, it is traumatic I imagine. For others, they want to get their mind off things and they will watch movies and whatever is there. That is a great thing to do. And hopefully I can do that too, at one point.”
“But it’s just a very, very, very difficult time and everybody knows it, and they are kind of like saying, ‘What world are we in?’ ”
