Russell Crowe Blasts 'Kids These Days' for Roasting His Oscar-Winning Film

    Twentieth Century Fox

The Australian actor defends ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World’ against a Twitter troll who jokes about the 2003 period war-drama making him fall asleep.

    Jan 18, 2021
AceShowbiz – Russell Crowe has clapped back at a critic of his 2003 film “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World”. The 56-year-old actor and his critically-acclaimed movie become the subject of mockery on Twitter after a user harshly alluded the film was boring.
The Twitter user wrote, “Lots of folk complaining about lack of sleep during the Pandemic.” He continued to joke, “May I recommend Master And Commander starring the usually captivating, attention-grabbing Russell Crowe. I’ve never made it past the ten minute mark. You’re welcome. And thanks Russell.”
After catching wind of it, Crowe responded to the mean-spirited tweet. “That’s the problem with kids these days. No focus,” he wrote while including the original tweet.
Defending the epic period war-drama, he added, “Peter Weirs film is brilliant. An exacting, detail oriented, epic tale of fidelity to Empire & service, regardless of the cost. Incredible cinematography by Russell Boyd & a majestic soundtrack.” He went on stressing, “Definitely an adults movie.”

Russell Crowe defended his film ‘Master and Commander’ against a Twitter troll’s harsh criticism.
“Master and Commander” is set in the Napoleonic Wars. The film’s plot and characters are adapted from three novels in author Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin series, which includes 20 completed novels of Jack Aubrey’s naval career.
The film, which was co-written, produced and directed by Peter Weir, also starred Paul Bettany and was nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. It won Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing, though lost in all other categories to “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Crowe was one of the few Hollywood actors who graced big screen in 2020. His action thriller “Unhinged” became the first wide theatrical release in several months after the coronavirus outbreak shut down theater-going. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised Crowe’s performance but felt the film did not take full advantage of its premise.

AceShowbiz – Russell Crowe has banned his mother from watching his new movie “Unhinged”.
The 56-year-old actor stars as The Man in the psychological thriller, which tells the tale of a case of road rage which turns into a real-life nightmare for a woman and her son as they are followed by an unstable driver they honked at.
And while Russell has a selection of more family-friendly films, such as “A Good Year”, “Robin Hood”, and “Les Miserables” under his belt, “Unhinged” is one he won’t be suggesting that his mum tunes in for.
“I’ve actually told her she’s not allowed to see this one,” he laughed during an interview with U.S. TV show “Extra”. “There’s occasionally movies that come along that I do that I don’t like her to see. And I think that this one’s under that heading.”
Russell is currently shielding in Australia with his mother and father, Jocelyn and John.

Russell Crowe Tapped for 'A Prophet' Remake

    WENN

The ‘Unhinged’ actor is signed on to play the lead character in an upcoming thriller ‘American Son’ about an inmate who builds his own crime syndicate in jail.
    May 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Russell Crowe has landed a new role in upcoming thriller “American Son” helmed by British director Andrew ‘Rapman’ Onwubolu of “Blue Story” fame.
According to Variety, the 56-year-old Oscar winner will be starring as a mobster in the movie, a remake of the Oscar-nominated French movie “A Prophet”. Dennis Lehane has been tapped to write the screenplay.
The movie reportedly centres on a man who, after falling under the control of a ruthless mobster while in prison, builds a multiracial crime syndicate, takes down his mentor, and teams up the Italian and Russian mafias.
American Son is based on the critically acclaimed French film, originally directed by Jacques Audiard, which followed an Arab man, played by actor Tahar Rahim, who is sent to a French prison, where he becomes a mafia leader.
Crowe’s new role follows the news that his thriller “Unhinged” will be a test for the U.S. cinema industry when it becomes the first film officially released to theatres in July 2020 once the coronavirus lockdown ends.

Russell Crowe's Movie 'Unhinged' to Come Out in July as Test for Cinema After Lockdown

    Solstice Studios

The thriller fronted by the ‘Gladiator’ actor will become the first movie to hit theaters in the United States when the restrictions are expected to be lifted this coming summer.
    May 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Russell crowe’s new movie will serve as a test for the U.S. cinema industry when it becomes the first film officially released to theatres in July 2020 once the coronavirus shut down ends.
Solstice Studios bosses have bumped up the release of thriller “Unhinged” to July 1, 2020 so they can be in theatres as soon as they re-open, in time for America’s 4 July holiday weekend.
“When we green lit this film, I probably figured that July 4th weekend and Christmas would be the two least likely slots,” Solstice chairman/CEO Mark Gill tells Deadline. “We were sitting on September 4 and then COVID-19 happened, and A Quiet Place 2 moved out of its original slot and landed on our date. When you are in a speedboat and a giant ship is coming at you, you better move out of the way.”
“We looked at the rest of the year, fall/winter and spring 2021. The release schedule was already crowded, and when you add all the films that have been delayed, it made it think that maybe we go sooner (sic).”
Gill has the backing of NATO experts, “The first call was to John Fithian at NATO, whose organisation is in touch with state public services departments, and if they had said, ‘You can’t open theatres,’ we would have said forget it. We don’t want to do anything that isn’t safe and expert-guided.”
Meanwhile, Solstice researchers have carried out a private poll of 1,000 movie fans and were encouraged by how many were planning to return to theatres as soon as they re-opened in America.
“We thought maybe 40 per cent would say they were eager to return to the theatres, but we were surprised to see the number at 80 per cent,” Gill adds. “We became convinced that enough theatres will have been open for a couple of weeks, playing repertory and not new films… and from a business perspective, we see an opportunity to have a week or two of clear path before theatres get (blockbusters) Mulan and Tenet.”
