When asked how rehearsals with the stars of the NBC sketch show have been going in light of the alleged protest, the Tesla CEO says it’s all ‘much ado about nothing.’

    May 5, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Elon Musk is unfazed by reports of “Saturday Night Live” cast’s uproar over his hosting gig. Days ahead of his debut as a host on the NBC variety series, the business magnate plays down the rumors, alluding that people just make a big deal of fuss over nothing.

The billionaire makes the comment when asked by Page Six how rehearsals have been going in light of the hubbub and speculation. He says it was all “much ado about nothing.” When quizzed again if everyone is being friendly and willing to work with him, he gives a simple and affirmative answer with, “Yes.”

The rumors that “SNL” cast is upset by the hiring of Elon as a host for the upcoming episode of the sketch series first emerged after some of the show’s regular players reacted to the Tesla CEO’s tweet. “Let’s find out just how live ‘Saturday Night Live’ really is,” the SpaceX chief designer tweeted in late April.

“What the f**k does this even mean,” Bowen Yang then posted on his Instagram Story alongside a screenshot of Musk’s tweet. Andrew Dismukes also questioned the decision to hire the businessman. “Only CEO I wanna do sketch with is Cher-E Oteri,” he wrote, referencing to former “SNL” star Cher-E Oteri.

Meanwhile, Aidy Bryant shared a tweet by Bernie Sanders which read, “The 50 wealthiest people in America today own more wealth than the bottom half of our people.” She added, “Let me repeat that, because it is almost too absurd to believe: the 50 wealthiest people in this country own more wealth than some 165 MILLION Americans. That is a moral obscenity. (sic)”

Their posts have since been deleted, but a source told Page Six that the upset cast members won’t appear in a sketch with Elon. “Speaking historically, if a cast member has been that unhappy, they don’t have to do it,” the source said. “[‘SNL’ boss Lorne Michaels] won’t ever make them do anything they don’t want to do.”

Elon Musk asked for skit ideas for his upcoming hosting gig on ‘SNL’.

Meanwhile, Elon continues preparing for his hosting gig as he asked for skit ideas on Twitter on Saturday, May 1. “Throwing out some skit ideas for SNL. What should I do?” he asked his followers, before coming up with some of his own.

    AceShowbiz –
Olivia Rodrigo, Keegan-Michael Key, Anya Taylor-Joy and Lil Nas X have been set for two final episodes of “Saturday Night Live” season 46. On Monday, May 3, the long-running NBC show announced that “The Predator” actor and the “Driver License” songstress will appear as the host and the musical guest for an upcoming episode on May 15.

Meanwhile, “The Queen’s Gambit” breakout star will host the finale on May 22. Joining Anya, the Grammy-winning rapper will serve musical performance in the forthcoming episode. “Final eps of Season 46!” the account for “SNL” wrote alongside the show’s signature post-it note pictures revealing the lineup and the schedule.

Olivia expressed her excitement in the comment section of the post. “ive literally never been so excited in my whole life,” the “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” star wrote.

Prior to this, Olivia was featured in a viral sketch of the show. In the February episode, “Bridgerton” star Rege-Jean Page, who hosted the show, played a guy who hung out with some of his friends at a bar where Olivia’s hit single “Drivers License” was played on the jukebox. “I gotta hear that freaking bridge again, man,” one of them said before they sang along to the song.

Olivia, who turned 18 that day, took to her Twitter account to share her excitement. “DRIVERS LICENSE SNL SKETCH IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER IM SHAKING,” so she wrote on Twitter following the episode.

She further addressed the skit in a March interview. “I was absolutely floored. I was screaming. I think being made fun of and parodied on ‘SNL’ is the biggest compliment in the whole world, so that was so surreal,” she said.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I think that they were going to do a ‘Driver’s License’ sketch where they played the entirety of ‘Driver’s License’,” she went on saying. “And Pete Davidson, who is my biggest celebrity crush, was singing it and comparing me to Taylor Swift, who is my idol. It was just insane. It was on my 18th birthday too, so it was just a crazy day.”

Elon Musk's 'SNL' Hosting Gig Met With Criticisms From Cast Members

    WENN

Bowen Yang, Aidy Bryant, and Andrew Dismukes make it clear that they are not impressed by the hiring of the Tesla CEO as a host for the upcoming ‘Saturday Night Live’ episode.

    Apr 28, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Elon Musk’s “Saturday Night Live” appearance has upset some cast members.

The Tesla CEO recently confirmed he will be the first non-actor or non-athlete since 2015 to host the comedy sketch show on 8 May (21) alongside Miley Cyrus.

He wrote on Twitter, “Let’s find out just how live ‘Saturday Night Live’ really is.”

However, his upcoming gig has left a number of the “SNL” cast feeling frustrated, with Bowen Yang writing on Instagram, “What the f**k does this even mean. (sic)”

Aidy Bryant echoed Yang’s concerns and shared a tweet by Bernie Sanders, reading, “The 50 wealthiest people in America today own more wealth than the bottom half of our people.”

“Let me repeat that, because it is almost too absurd to believe: the 50 wealthiest people in this country own more wealth than some 165 MILLION Americans. That is a moral obscenity. (sic)”

Andrew Dismukes also questioned the decision to hire the businessman. Referencing former SNL star Cher-E Oteri, he said, “Only CEO I wanna do sketch with is Cher-E Oteri.”

Their posts have since been deleted, but they’re not the only ones unhappy with the decision, as fans have taken to social media to share their outrage about Musk’s upcoming appearance.

“Elon Musk hosting SNL is huge for guys still making ‘that’s what she said’ jokes who think they’d be great at hosting SNL,” said one, while a second added, “There really was nobody else available to host SNL? Elon Musk? Why?”

Daniel Kaluuya Credits Kenan Thompson for Inspiring His Acting Career During 'SNL' Stint

    WENN/Avalon

Making his guest-hosting debut on ‘Saturday Night Live’, the ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ star uses his monologue to also take a jab at the differences between American and British racism.

    Apr 5, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Daniel Kaluuya had a real full circle moment while guest hosting sketch show “Saturday Night Live” in America over the weekend, revealing his first taste of show-business was inspired by comedian Kenan Thompson.

During his monologue at the start of the show, the Brit explained he wrote a play when he was nine that was based on an episode of former child star Thompson’s hit comedy show “Kenan & Kel”.

“I just wanna say how grateful I am to be here,” Daniel said. “When I was nine years old that got performed at Hampstead Theater, with real actors and everything, and this is a true story – that play was based on ‘Kenan & Kel’. And that play led me down a path that got me to this stage tonight, with Kenan backstage right now.”

Thompson is a longtime regular on the sketch show.

During his stint in guest-hosting the April 3 episode, Daniel also made a reference to Meghan Markle’s revelation about royal family’s concerns over how dark Archie’s skin might be.”First of all, I know you’re hearing my accent and thinking, ‘Oh no, he’s not Black. He’s British!’ ” he kicked off his joke on the subject.

“I’m here to reassure you that I am Black,” the 32-year-old actor continued quipping. “I’m Black and I’m British. Basically, I’m what the royal family was worried the baby would look like.”

The “Judas and the Black Messiah” star also poked fun at the differences between American and British racism. “Let me put it this way: British racism is so bad white people left. They wanted to be free – free to be able to invent their own kind of racism,” he stated. “That’s why they invented Australia, South Africa and Boston.”

Jeremy Irons Screamed at Bob Odenkirk Over Bad 'SNL' Monologue

    WENN

The ‘Dead Ringers’ actor was so mad that he yelled at the ‘Breaking Bad’ star after finding the ‘Saturday Night Live’ monologue the latter wrote for him was not really great.

    Apr 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Bob Odenkirk isn’t looking forward to his next encounter with Jeremy Irons because, the last time the two actors met, the Brit yelled at the “Breaking Bad” star.

Odenkirk was a writer on U.S. sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” before he hit the big time and he was charged with writing a monologue for guest host Irons.

Bob won an Emmy for being part of the writing team, but Irons wasn’t a fan.

“Rob Schneider and I had written this monologue, and it wasn’t great,” Odenkirk told “The Howard Stern Show”. “He was right. He was really mad. He was so mad.”

“(He said), ‘I can sing. I can dance. I can juggle. I am a Shakespearean-trained actor. And you have me doing this?’ ”

Bob secretly taped the Oscar winner’s outburst and played it at parties.

      See also…

“I had a little recorder, and I taped it because I loved it so much,” Bob said. “And he was right, God bless him. It wasn’t a great monologue, but he’s a trouper.”

“I played it for many people. I don’t know where it is now. It’s at the bottom of a bin somewhere. It exists.”

While his “SNL” stint earned him prestigious award, Bob Odenkirk had some regrets.

In a previous interview, he admitted he was “such a prick back then.”

“I was so opinionated. I was a very opinionated comedy writer,” he said. “I wish I was a sweeter fellow because I had a great opportunity there.”

“I learned a lot about comedy writing and I made some great friends for life at that show, but I still wish I’d just handled it better, but don’t you always wish that about your young self?”

Besides writing for the “SNL”, the “Better Call Saul” star penned for “The Ben Stiller Show” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”.

'SNL' Cast Member Bowen Yang Addresses Anti-Asian Hate Crimes

    NBC/Will Heath

During the ‘Weekend Update’ segment, the first Chinese-American cast member on the series shares about a helpful mantra for himself which is a Mandarin cheer ‘Jiayou’ that roughly translates to ‘Fuel up.’

    Mar 29, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“Saturday Night Live” cast member Bowen Yang talked about something that really hit home in the new episode of the NBC comedy show. During the “Weekend Update” segment in the Saturday, March 27 episode, the first Chinese-American cast member on the series addressed anti-Asian hate crime that recently rises in the United States.

In the segment, Yang shared about a helpful mantra for himself which was a Mandarin cheer “Jiayou” that roughly translates to “Fuel up.” The comedian said, “I don’t know what’s helpful to say to everyone, but that’s what I say to myself. Fuel up. Do more. It’s the Year of the Metal Ox, which basically means a car. So everyone get in, buckle up, it’s no pee breaks. We ride at dawn, grandmas!”

The “Nora from Queens” actor referred to the 75-year-old Asian American woman named Xiao Zhen Xie. Earlier this month, Xie was punched by a white man in San Francisco, California, but then she used a wooden board to fight back. The suspect, Steve Jenkins, who attacked 83-year-old Ngoc Pham, was arrested at the scene.

The attack arrived just one day after Robert Aaron Long killed eight people at three Atlanta-area massage parlors. Of the victims, six were women of Asian descent.

Back to the show, Yang still attempted to bring laughter as he joked, “Six ways you can check in on your AAPI friends and tell them they’re so hot.”

“Weekend Update” host Colin Jost then asked Yang if those tips were going to help Asian Americans. To that, Yang responded, “Maybe. I don’t know, Colin… What can I say to help how insanely bad things are?” The 30-year-old went on to say, “If someone’s personality is ‘punch an Asian grandma,’ it’s not a dialogue. I have an Asian grandma, you want to punch her. There ain’t no common ground, mama.”

“Look, I’m just a comedian, I don’t have the answers. But I’m not just looking for them online, I’m looking around me,” he added. “The GoFundMe for Xiao Zhen Xie, the grandmother who fought back against her attacker, raised $900,000, which she immediately gave back to the community. That’s where we are as Asians. Come meet us there.”

“I’ve got to ask, are we good? Because I see you’re doing a lot of solo stuff. Are we still a band?” Kevin asked, as Nick replied, “Of course.”

    Feb 22, 2021
AceShowbiz – Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song “Driver License” was featured in a new episode of “Saturday Night Live”. In the February 20 episode, which had “Bridgerton” star Rege-Jean Page as the host, the show incorporated a sketch that was based on the singer’s song.
In the said skit, Rege-Jean could be seen playing a round of billiards with “manly men,” who were played by cast member Beck Bennett, Pete Davidson, Mikey Day, Alex Moffat, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang. Later, they went to the jukebox to play favorite song as “Drivers License” later played.
After listening to the song, all the men praised the heartbreaking ballad. “I gotta hear that freaking bridge again, man,” one of them said before they sang along to the song.
Olivia herself didn’t miss the episode. The singer, who turned 18 that day, took to her Twitter account to share her excitement. “DRIVERS LICENSE SNL SKETCH IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER IM SHAKING,” she wrote to her followers. Additionally, she shared on Instagram Story that she was “losing my mind a snl sketch ab drivers license omg.”

Olivia Rodrigo shared excitement over ‘Drivers License’ skit on ‘SNL’.
Olivia’s single is a huge success as it peaked at No. 3 on on Apple Music’s chart and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Fans believed that “Drivers License” was about her ex-boyfriend and “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” co-star Joshua Bassett.
Olivia previously revealed to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that she got an approval from Taylor Swift for the song. “I wrote the bulk of the song literally crying in my living room, and I think that it definitely has that feel to it,” she shared. “I was driving around my neighborhood, actually listening to really sad songs and crying in the car, and I got home and I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll write a song about this, crying in the car.’ ”
“So, I just sat down at my piano and plucked out some chords that I liked and it kind of happened that way,” the star went on saying. “But it was really, really natural and organic. [It was] very much me writing in the depth of my emotion.”
“The pain is definitely real in that song,” Olivia further explained. “I definitely think I try to approach recording all of my music from a place of emotion. I think the emotional performances are the best, even if they’re not technically the best sound.”
