Sebastian Stan Waits for Mark Hamill's Call to Play Luke Skywalker in Future 'Star Wars' Film

    WENN/Lucasfilm/Instar

The ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ actor responds to rumors that he will be playing a young Luke Skywalker in an upcoming film during an appearance on ‘Good Morning America’.

    Mar 26, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Sebastian Stan has addressed speculation that he will be taking the mantle to be the new Luke Skywalker. The MCU actor has been fan favorite to play a younger version of the Jedi Master in a future “Star Wars” film and he has now revealed one condition for him to play the character made famous by Mark Hamill.

Appearing on “Good Morning America” to promote his new series on Disney+, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, the Bucky Barnes depicter was asked by host Robin Roberts (II) if there’s truth to the rumors. The 38-year-old actor then replied that he would only play Luke Skywalker if Hamill gives his blessing.

Roberts then pointed out that Hamill has in the past jokingly endorsed Stan as his successor. Waiting for a firmer confirmation, Stan responded, “Yeah, well… If Mark Hamill calls me personally to tell me that he feels inclined to share this role with me, I’ll believe it. Until then, I won’t believe anything.”

Rumors of Stan possibly replacing Hamill to play a young Luke Skywalker in a future “Star Wars” film have been going round on the Internet for years. Fans are particularly obsessed with the “Avengers: Endgame” star’s likeness to the 69-year-old actor, with Hamill himself responding by joking that he’s Stan’s father. “Sorry to disappoint you but I refuse to say ‘Sebastian Stan-I AM YOUR FATHER!’ (even though, in fact, I am),” he tweeted.

While Stan was a bit coy when addressing the rumors on “GMA”, he has in the past expressed his desire to take on the role. “I just want to say here that anytime anyone would like to call me and ask me about Luke Skywalker I’d be very happy [to play him],” he said back in November 2017.

Sebastian Stan: Having Black Captain America Is 'Incredibly Powerful Symbol'

    Disney Plus

The Winter Soldier depicter explains why his superhero series with Anthony Mackie, ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’, is Marvel’s most relevant show yet.

    Mar 21, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Sebastian Stan believes “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is Marvel’s “most relevant show yet.”

The actor, 38, appears in the forthcoming Disney+ show as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and, speaking to GQ Hype, he admitted he had to “find his (character’s) voice” to get into the role.

Sharing his concerns about having “longer scenes” and “a lot more dialogue” between himself and co-star Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, Stan explained, “Well, in a way it’s the bit that worried me the most. Not as an actor, per se, but as a fan of the character.”

“Winter Soldier and Falcon have worked together best when they’ve had little to say to one another. We’re good at quips. So, now, what are they going to say to one another?”

“For this show, I had to find his voice, in all senses, and do it in a way that was timely to what is going on in 2021.”

He continued, “Look, you can’t do a show that explores the title of Captain America without touching on some of the stuff we have seen on the news. In fact, I would argue this is Marvel’s most relevant show yet.”

“A Black Captain America is an incredibly powerful symbol, for all those reasons we were discussing, but also he was the right man from a character standpoint (to) take the shield, regardless of race.”

“Bucky wouldn’t be emotionally intelligent enough or mentally stable enough to be able to handle such huge shoes. His moral compass is somewhat questionable too.”

Stan first appeared as Bucky in “Captain America: The First Avenger” in 2011 but appeared to die at the end of the film. However, in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, it was revealed Bucky had survived and he went on to appear in various instalments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sebastian Stan Appears to Diss Captain America and Bucky's Ending in 'Avengers: Endgame'

    Marvel Studios

The Bucky Barnes depicter agrees with a fan who is taken aback by the ‘out-of-character writing’ for his character and Steve Rogers’ storyline in the last ‘Avengers’ movie.
    Jan 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Sebastian Stan is apparently not a fan of the ending of Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers’ storyline in “Avengers: Endgame”. Almost a year since the movie was released in theaters, the actor has just let his actual feelings be known about Chris Evans’ Captain America passing his shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson instead of his longtime friend Bucky.
The Romanian-born actor posted on Instagram Stories a screenshot of a fan’s complaint on Twitter about the so-called “out-of-character writing” in regards to Steve and Bucky’s friendship in the movie. The fan reacted to a post by Marvel U.K. & Ireland’s official Twitter account which wrote, “Together until the end of the line,” along with a photo of then-skinny Steve and Bucky in his soldier outfit.
The said fan replied sarcastically to the post, “together until the end of the line. Or until bad, inconsistent, out-of character writing turns Steve Rogers into his own anti-thesis. Shouldn’t it be ‘together until the end of the lie’ now?” Stan added a flushed face emoji over it.
Apparently understanding Stan’s feelings, “Star Wars” actor John Boyega posted on Twitter, “Welcome Mr Stan ! Welcome,” along with a gif of Emperor Palpatine laughing. Boyega himself has previously shaded the decision regarding the franchise’s handling of Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren relationship in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.
Stan has not responded to Boyega’s tweet and it’s not clear if he was just trolling “The Avengers” franchise with his post. Regardless of his apparent shade, the 37-year-old clearly has no issue being a part of the MCU as he’s currently working with Mackie again on Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, for which they reprise their respective role.
Set after events in the 2019 “Avengers: Endgame”, the upcoming series will also bring back Daniel Bruhl and Emily VanCamp who have previously starred in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War”. The new series is expected to premiere in late 2020.
