    WENN

Words are the ‘Honey Boy’ star is now the studio’s top contender to play the mutant superhero in a possible X-Men reboot, which will mark his return to a big budget project.
    Aug 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Shia LaBeouf could be the new Iceman in MCU. The 34-year-old actor, who has been shying away from big studio’s projects for years now, is reportedly considered by Marvel to be the next Iceman in its potential X-Men reboot.
According to We Got This Covered which first reported the news, the juicy info came from reliable sources who previously revealed a She-Hulk show is coming to Disney Plus and a live-action Robin Hood remake is in the works at Disney. LaBeouf was previously rumored to play Moon Knight and while he’s still in the running for the role, he’s no longer considered a top choice.
Iceman, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, is a mutant born with superhuman abilities. He has the ability to manipulate ice and cold by freezing water vapor around him. The character first appeared in “The X-Men” #1 which was published in September 1963.
In big screen, the character was first portrayed by Shawn Ashmore in “X-Men”, “X2”, “X-Men: The Last Stand” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. He’s depicted as having a romantic relationship with Rogue (Anna Paquin) in the earlier films, but later their relationship is strained by their inability to have physical contact and by his close friendship with Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) in “The Last Stand”.
Should the news be true and LaBeouf land the role, it will mark his return to a big budget movie. The actor, who debuted as a child star in 1996 and starred as Louis Stevens on the Disney Channel series “Even Stevens”, went on to become an A-list star following his appearance in the first three “Transformers” film, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” and “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps” among others.
In the 2010s, he starred in critically-acclaimed movies like “Lawless (2012)”, “The Company You Keep”, “Nymphomaniac” and “Fury”. After a two-year break, he returned with “Honey Boy” which earned rave reviews from critics.
However, his personal life was far from flattering, with him being arrested in 2014 for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass charges and once again in 2017 for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and obstruction, which were all attributed to his alcoholism. He was later diagnosed with PTSD during a stint in drug rehabilitation following the arrest.

  • 'Tax Collector' Director Throws Light on Shia LaBeouf's Role in the Wake of 'Brownface' Allegations

    WENN

Movie fans have voiced concerns that the ‘Fury’ actor may have been cast to play a Latino character when he is not of Latin descent after the trailer for the David Ayer-directed film was released.
    Jul 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Shia LaBeouf has been accused of using “brownface” after the trailer for his new movie seemingly showed him portraying a man of Mexican descent.
The criticism was sparked when the trailer for the David Ayer directed film The “Tax Collector” was released, showing a heavily tattooed Shia playing a gangster working for a crime lord and speaking with an accent. And some movie fans took to social media to voice concerns he may have been cast to play a Latino character when he is not of Latin descent.
A Mexican TV writer and producer tweeted: “#brownfacing 2020 style,” before adding: “Tell all the kids how you’re Hollywood’s top cholo auteur, and your pretzel reasons Shia Lebeouf (sic) is sort of kind of playing a weird movie cholo in a cop movie and how all of this isn’t really.”

A Mexican TV writer and producer accused Shia LaBeouf of using ‘brownface’ in ‘Tax Collector’.
However, Ayer hit back at the claims and insisted Shia is playing a white man – although the character is heavily influenced by Latinx culture.
When another critic directly tweeted the filmmaker to ask: “Is Shia Lebouf (sic) playing a Latino character in Tax Collector? If so, why didn’t you cast a Latin actor?”
The director, who helmed “Suicide Squad”, responded: “Really important answer – Shia is playing a whiteboy who grew up in the hood. This is a Jewish dude playing a white character. Also the only white dude in the movie.”

David Ayer clarified on Shia LaBeouf’s character in ‘Tax Collector’.
“I grew up hood and I’m a whiteboy. Chicano culture is inclusive – I’ve seen whiteys, Asians, Blacks, Filipinos all putting in work for the hood. It’s part of street culture.”

David Ayer further explained about chicano culture.
He also clarified, the film isn’t a “cop movie”, and “Shia is playing something very specific. Not brown face.”

David Ayer stressed that Shia LaBeouf did not do ‘brownface’.
The once-troubled actor, who starred in Ayer’s film “Fury”, has turned his career around in recent years, and garnered critical acclaim, particularly for his movie “Honey Boy”, in which he starred as a fictionalised version of his own father.

Shia LaBeouf Under Fire After Winning Award for Emerging Screenwriter

    WENN

Some of the up-and-coming screenwriters have been left disgusted after the Sun Valley Film Festival gave the High Scribe award for emerging talent to the ‘Transformers’ actor.
    May 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Shia LaBeouf has come under fire after collecting a screenwriting award intended for up-and-coming talent.
The 33-year-old actor infuriated some undiscovered writers after he won the Sun Valley Film Festival’s High Scribe award late last month, April 2020, according to The Wrap.
While the accolade is apparently intended to supporting emerging screenwriters, the win from an actor who has starred in multiple blockbusters and previously wrote the critically acclaimed “Honey Boy” angered some of his fellow competitors.
“Any ‘screenwriting competition’ that awards its top prize to an established Hollywood screenwriter doesn’t deserve your $50,” tweeted screenwriter Kyle Andrews.
“Not to take anything from the guy at all, he’s a great artist, but for a company to take money from hardworking, undiscovered screenwriters looking to break in and give their top prize to SHIA FREAKING LEBOUF is a level of ballsy I can’t begin to comprehend.”
He added, “Honestly I’m kinda livid about this. I know how these companies operate, this was a choice. They’re thirsty for recognition because they can’t get it on their own, and I hope writers can see it.”
Another screenwriter revealed he also entered the competition while joking about the insignificance of the prize to LeBeouf.
“I lost a screenwriting competition to Shia LaBeouf. I hope he puts that $1000 and 1-on-1 consultation with a producer to good use,” they wrote.
After winning the High Scribe award, the “Transformers” actor will be treated to “one-on-one meetings with some of the industry’s finest to discuss their work” as well as “mentoring from an experienced professional.”
Explaining why he entered the contest, a representative for the star said, “Shia entered the competition as an emerging writer.”
“He is thrilled to be a part of the community and thrives off of any opportunity to gain insight, constructive criticism and knowledge from those with more experience… and that’s in regards to any art form,” they added, reported Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper.
