I was very shy. I had a better a chance of falling up than ever having a relationship with this person. It’s better for everyone if it just remains a mystery.”Carlton has kept the person’s identity a secret since the song’s releaseVanessa is also bisexual, which could be why she’s refusing to gender the person mentioned in the song as a way to keep their identity hidden. A Thousand Miles is Vanessa’s only song to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at number five.The iconic 2002 tune reached number one in Australia, number three in Ireland and top ten in the UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands and New Zealand.Carlton has branded the song “a combination of reality and fantasy.
