Disney’s ‘freaky nightmare fuel’ Dumbo is way darker than any horror movie

The film follows Holt, a circus performer, who has to look after an elephant with large ears named Dumbo.Article continues belowHe learns that Dumbo can fly, which results in a number of crooks attempting to take the elephant for their own. The film was directed by Tim Burton and social media was ablaze with stunned comments after fans returned from the cinema.Over on Reddit, at the time viewers branded Burton’s Dumbo as “nightmare fuel” while one person wrote: “It’s Tim Burton, what do you expect?”The Dumbo remake was released back in 2019Another said: “This however definitely does not keep to original story and it’s really nightmare fuel, I whispered to my husband: ‘What did they do to Dumbo?””They butchered it and turned it into some creepy freaky remake but what else would you expect from Tim Burton?? Keep the original Disney, stop making remakes and ruining everything!!!!”However, some have defended the remake and one person explained that the film is “meant to be terrifying”.Fans had no idea the film’s storyline would be so darkSomeone else wrote that the film is “dark and somewhat depressing throughout” and explained that they felt the sweet elephant was “more of a prop than a main character”.They continued: “In the original, since it’s a cartoon you can clearly see Dumbo being said and you get to emotionally connect with him through facial expressions, but in live action since you can’t do that, the only way they could show Dumbo being said was by showing [him] and his mother holding trunks.”More comments flooded in defending Tim Burton’s style as a furious film fan suggested that the director’s movies “are never usually dark,” but people assume so because the universes in his films “are usually horror themed”.The Tim Burton remake is based on the 1941 film of the same name”For example, Nightmare Before Christmas is set in a spooky world but is about as scary as a Mario game and some are just straight up parodies like Frankenweenie.”Dumbo stars Michael Keaton, Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Nico Parker, Eva Green, Finley Hobbins, Jana Posna, Edd Osmond and Alan Arkin. The film was the first of five planned live-action adaptations of iconic Disney films, which also included Aladdin, The Lion King, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Lady and the Tramp.Article continues belowJoin the Daily Star’s WhatsApp for the sexiest headlines, showbiz gossip and lots moreThe Daily Star is now on WhatsApp and we want you to join us!Through the app, we’ll send you the sassiest showbiz stories, some naught headline and a seismic smattering of aliens…along with the latest breaking news of course. To join our community, all you have to do to join isclick on this link, select ‘Join Chat’ and you’re in!No one will be able to see who has sign up and no one can send messages except for the Daily Star team.
