Miley Cyrus and Stevie Nicks Release 'Magical' Duet 'Edge of Midnight'

The former Disney darling and the Fleetwood Mac lead vocalist combine their two songs ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Edge of Seventeen’ as they team up for a remix.

    Nov 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Miley Cyrus and Stevie Nicks have combined their hit songs “Midnight Sky” and “Edge of Seventeen” for a new collaboration titled “Edge of Midnight”.
The 27-year-old singer and the 72-year-old Fleetwood Mac star’s voices meld perfectly on the tune, which is the latest song to be released from Miley’s upcoming album “Plastic Hearts” – dropping on 27 November (20).
In fact, Miley’s initial version of “Midnight Sky” has something of a Nicks sound about it, as she told the “Zach Sang Show” back in August (20) that she “reached out” to Stevie ahead of releasing her smash hit tune.

“I actually had this song blessed by Stevie Nicks, because there is a kind of a nod to Edge of Seventeen in this song,” she said. “So, I actually reached out to her directly about, ‘this song, it has your spirit, your magic.’ I actually wrote this whole kind of message about, you know, ‘the kind of artist I want to be is the kind of artist that you’ve been for me, like I just hope that I can be that for other people.’ When I’ve felt lonely, Stevie Nicks has been there for me, whether she’s known it or not.”
Sharing the song on her Twitter page on Thursday (05Nov20), Miley wrote, “@StevieNicks has always been my idol & an inspiration. It’s an honour to now call her my friend and collaborator. Edge Of Midnight (Midnight Sky Remix) out everywhere!”
Meanwhile, Stevie also posted the song on Twitter, and wrote, “Duet with @MileyCyrus …Magical! Loved singing with her! Available everywhere.”

  • Stevie Nicks Recalls Using Sly Stone's 'Magic Room' to Work on 'Dreams'

    WENN/Ivan Nikolov

In a new interview, the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman admits to having completed the writing and recording of her band’s hit in just 20 minutes at the secret recording space in San Francisco.

    Oct 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Stevie Nicks wrote TikTok sensation hit “Dreams” in funk legend Sly Stone’s secret recording space at a studio in San Francisco, California.
The singer reveals she and her Fleetwood Mac bandmates were finishing off demos for their 1977 album “Rumors” when she got a melody stuck in her head and tried to find a quiet place where she could complete the new tune.
“We were up at the Record Plant in San Francisco and were almost done with the 12 demos,” Nicks tells Yahoo Entertainment. “Everybody was working on something else in the main studio, and I had this idea. I was kind of wandering around the studio, looking for somewhere where I could curl up with my Fender Rhodes (guitar) and my lyrics and a little cassette tape recorder.”
“This guy who I didn’t even know said, ‘Are you looking for a place to go and play?’ I said, ‘I am. I have a song in my head and I want to record it.’ And he said, ‘OK, now, you can never tell anybody, but I have a place where you can go,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, a magic room! Oh my God, I’ll never tell anybody.’ ”

Stevie was led to a “full-on studio that none of us ever knew existed in this building,” adding, “It’s a big studio with a sunken circular shape, actually like a lighthouse, like a circle, and there’s keyboards all around, a bunch of keyboards that went down this tunnel kind of thing. And then over to the side was this big half-moon circular bed with all black and red velvet. It sounds a little garish, but it was actually beautiful. And I said, ‘What is this?’ And he said, ‘This is Sly Stone’s studio.’ ”
Nicks sat on the bed and had “Dreams” written and recorded in just 20 minutes.
“I walked out back down the hallway and I walked into Fleetwood Mac’s studio, and I said, ‘Listen up, everybody. I think I have something that you want to hear.’ I played them a little recording of ‘Dreams’ and we recorded that song that night.”
The track has become a hit all over again after Fleetwood Mac fan Nathan Apodaca’s viral video, in which he skateboards while miming along to the song, became a TikTok sensation, leading to a string of copycat performances, including one from Mick Fleetwood himself.

  • Stevie Nicks Claims Fleetwood Mac Male Members Hate Confident Woman Like Her

    WENN

The Fleetwood Mac frontman talks about her feud with her former bandmate and lover Lindsey Buckingham as she’s asked about any possible reunion with him.
    Oct 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Stevie Nicks has no intention of ever performing with her ex-lover and former Fleetwood Mac bandmate Lindsey Buckingham again.
Lindsey was booted from the band two years ago when he made comments at Stevie’s expense when Fleetwood Mac were honoured as the MusiCares Person of the Year in 2018.
Although she got in touch with him when he suffered a heart attack last year (19), the “Edge of Seventeen” hitmaker says their musical relationship is at an end.
Asked if she’d ever appear on stage again in an interview with The Guardian she says, “probably never,” before going on to say that she hasn’t regarded any of the group as close pals since the mid-1970s.

She explains that when asked, “‘Do you get along?’ We’d go: ‘Not really.’ They’d say: ‘Are you friends?’ and we’d go: ‘Not really.’ ‘Do you see each other when you’re not on tour?’ ‘Er, no.’ It has been like that since 1976.”
Stevie also accused Lindsey of being “jealous” of the success of her 1981 album “Bella Donna” as he left a copy she gifted him on the studio floor and refused to listen to it. She went on to claim all of her male bandmates and producers “hated that kind of confidence in a woman.”
Her comments come after drummer Mick Fleetwood said he and his ex-bandmate were on good terms but admitted the guitarist’s return would be complicated.
“All I can say is really openly is that Lindsey Buckingham and the work he has done with the band is never going to go away and we have a functioning band with the changes that we made (sic),” he explained. “You know time heals and it was lovely to be able to talk with him.”
Although Stevie replied “no” when asked by The Guardian if she’d spoken to Lindsey since his departure, the 72-year-old singer did tell the Los Angeles Times she had sent her best wishes after his heart attack.

  • Miley Cyrus Filled With Gratitude as Stevie Nicks Allows Her to 'Borrow' From Her 'Anytime'

    WENN

The ‘Midnight Sky’ singer considers the Fleetwood Mac star one of her mentors, applauding her senior for being ‘so open and welcoming’ to younger artists.
    Sep 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Miley Cyrus is still in awe after receiving permission to “borrow” musical ideas from Stevie Nicks whenever she wants.
The “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker samples Nicks’ 1981 solo song “Edge of Seventeen” in her new single “Midnight Sky”, and reveals she personally reached out to the Fleetwood Mac star to seek her approval – and got a lot more than she bargained for with the rock icon’s reply.
“I sent her the song and I said, ‘I have an alternate melody, if you don’t want me to kind of like pay tribute to you and your greatness and how much you’ve inspired me,’ ” Miley recalled during an appearance on America’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”.
“And she said, ‘You can borrow from me anytime.’ ”
The pop singer previously saluted Fleetwood Mac at the 2018 MusiCares’ Person of the Year ceremony, where Miley performed a cover of their classic hit “Landslide”, and she is grateful to count Nicks as one of her mentors, alongside her godmother, country music queen Dolly Parton, and Joan Jett.
“They are so open and welcoming to the newer members, the younger artists coming up, and they offer their mentorship,” Miley marvelled.
“It’s just been really incredibly important in my career, having someone like her (Nicks) to look up to. You know, like everyone looks up to Stevie Nicks but having that direct relationship has been just, you know, kind of life changing.”

Fleetwood Mac's Song 'Rhiannon' Turned Into Movie by Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks reveals that she has been hard at work during the coronavirus lockdown developing a big-screen project based on her band’s 1975 hit single.
    May 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Stevie Nicks has kept her 2020 schedule free so she can work on a movie inspired by her 1975 Fleetwood Mac hit “Rhiannon”.
The star opened up in a chat with Rolling Stone about life in lockdown and confessed she’s not finding it as tough as other artists because she’d already planned to take a year off touring.
“Last year I made a pitch to everybody that when this Fleetwood Mac tour is over, I’m taking next year off because I want to work on my Rhiannon book/movie,” she explained, with her new project based on the original Welsh Mabinogion myths that inspired her song. “And I want to maybe work with some different producers… I don’t know what I want to do! I just know that I don’t want a tour!”
While the “Stand Back” star hasn’t been able to meet with producers, she’s been recording music for the project based on a collection of poetry she’s amassed over the last 30 years.
“I have some Rhiannon poetry that I have written over the last 30 years that I’ve kept very quiet,” she teased. “I’m thinking, ‘Well here I have all this time and I have a recording setup.’ And I’m thinking I’m going to start doing some recording. I’m going to start putting some of these really beautiful poems to music, and I have the ability to record them. So that’s on my to-do list.”
Explaining she’s trying to make the most of the enforced downtime, the star insisted, “What all we have right now, if you’re home in quarantine, is time, unless you’re taking care of kids. So, really, you could do anything you wanted that you’ve been wanting to do your whole life. So that’s how I’m trying to look at it.”
