    Sting Regrets The Police Reunion, Loves 'Total Freedom' as Solo Artist

    The ‘Fields of Gold’ hitmaker admits he was not really impressed by his 2007 reunion with former bandmates and would rather continue to work as a solo artist.

    Sting regrets The Police’s reunion.

    The 69-year-old singer reunited with bandmates Andy Summers and Stuart Copeland in 2007 – 19 years after they split – and then embarked on a global tour in 2008.

    But the “Every Breath You Take” hitmaker admitted the experience didn’t leave him feeling the way he’d hoped it would.

    In an interview with Reader’s Digest magazine, he said, “At the time I labelled the tour an exercise in nostalgia. That was simply how I felt and is still how I feel today.”

    “I think it’s OK to be honest about your feelings and that was the way it went for me.”

    “That’s not a slight on the people I was with or the way things panned out, it’s just how I saw it by the end, and let’s be honest, that’s not how I wanted to remember it.”

    “If I thought that would be the emotion I’d be leaving with, I wouldn’t have done it in the first place.”

    Sting loves working as a solo artist because of the “total freedom” it offers.

    He said, “I think there is a freedom in being a solo artist.”

    “It’s not a power thing, at all, it’s just about producing exactly the brand and style of music that feels right for you.”

    “Music, in every form, is a collaborative process, but never more so than in a band, where you have to consider other people almost more than you do yourself.”

    “To have total career freedom is, for me, the ultimate thrill of being a solo artist.”

    Although the “Fields of Gold” singer thinks it’s “great fun” to have a hit record, he isn’t motivated by chart success.

    He added, “It’s great fun to have a hit record, it really is, but it’s not why I make records and it never has been, to be honest.”

    “It’s easy to get swept along in the excitement of the charts – a lot more so in the eighties than it is today – but the truth is I make records out of love and curiosity, even if it’s always nice to have something on the radio.”

      A number of musicians have signed an open letter criticizing the British lawmakers for turning down a post-Brexit deal as artists now need ‘costly work permits’ to tour across Europe.

      AceShowbiz – Elton John and Sting are among 110 musical artists to have signed an open letter to the U.K. government demanding visa-free touring in the European Union.
      The letter comes after the government confirmed it had turned down a post-Brexit deal which would have enabled touring in the E.U. without visas, with culture minister Caroline Dinenage saying that the arrangement “would not have been compatible with the government’s manifesto commitment to take back control of our borders.”
      While she said that the “door is open” for the E.U. to consider the U.K.’s “very sensible proposals,” she added that musicians and artists touring Europe “will be required to check domestic immigration and visitor rules for each member state in which they intend to tour.”
      However, the lack of a deal didn’t go down well with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Liam Gallagher, Brian May, Roger Daltrey, Radiohead, and Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis.

      The letter, organised by the Incorporated Society of Musicians, reads, “The reality is that British musicians, dancers, actors and their support staff have been shamefully failed by their government.”
      “The deal done with the E.U. has a gaping hole where the promised free movement for musicians should be. Everyone on a European music tour will now need costly work permits for many countries they visit and a mountain of paperwork for their equipment.”
      It added, “We call on the government to urgently do what it said it would do and negotiate paperwork-free travel in Europe for British artists and their equipment.
      “For the sake of British fans wanting to see European performers in the U.K. and British venues wishing to host them, the deal should be reciprocal.”
      The Who star Daltrey added to Sky News of the letter, “What’s (Brexit) got to do with the rock business? As if we didn’t tour in Europe before the E.U.”

      AceShowbiz – Rocker Sting and reggae star Shaggy are stepping into the world of “Animal Crossing” to debut new music on the hugely popular Nintendo video game.
      The friends and collaborators will make separate appearances on “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” in-game show, “Animal Talking”, with host Gary Whitta.
      Shaggy will serve as the musical guest for the new second season on 1 June, while Sting will join the programme on 8 June.

      The episodes will also air live on Twitch and later on YouTube.

      Sting joins The Roots for a fitting anthem of self-isolation and social-distancing amid coronavirus outbreak on the home edition of Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show.

      AceShowbiz – Sting was so thrilled to hear The Roots would be covering a hit The Police song using household objects he wanted to join them.
      The band asked the rock star if they could work on a quirky rendition of “Don’t Stand So Close to Me”, calling the song a fitting anthem for quarantine, self-isolation and social-distancing during the coronavirus pandemic, for Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show”.
      Sting not only agreed to let Questlove and his bandmates perform the track with Fallon on “The Tonight Show” ‘s “At Home” edition on Thursday night, April 9, 2020, he joined them, playing a jar of pasta before switching to guitar.

      Questlove played with scissors and forks, Black Thought a hair pick, and Kamal Gray with a game of “Connect 4”.
      The show also featured a Zoom meeting interview with Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock and Mike D and a virtual chat with Anna Kendrick.
