Josh O'Connor Felt Awful for Terrifying Emma Corrin in Angry Charles and Diana Scenes

    Netflix

The actor who plays Prince Charles in the upcoming new season of ‘The Crown’ talks about filming the scenes where Prince Charles screams at then-wife Princess Diana.

    Nov 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Josh O’Connor struggled filming aggressive scenes as Prince Charles for the new season of “The Crown” as he terrified his co-star, Princess Diana actress Emma Corrin.
Season four of the hit Netflix royal drama covers the breakdown of the pair’s marriage, with Charles on one occasion seen flying into a jealous rage after the Princess of Wales proves more popular than him during a royal tour of Australia, among other incidents.
The 30-year-old actor tells MailOnline it took him time, after playing the part across two seasons, “to work out what really triggered” Charles, stressing that his take is a fictionalised one, based on real events.
“He wants to marry Camilla (Parker Bowles, Prince Charles’ current wife), but he’s shut down,” says Josh. “He goes to the Queen to say, in essence, ‘This marriage isn’t working. Diana’s not happy, I’m not happy. Camilla’s not happy.’ And he’s shut down, shut down, shut down.”

The brooding tensions lead to a number of confrontations which, according to the actor, left him feeling “awful” for terrifying Corrin – with whom he’d developed a strong bond while working together.
“I felt awful,” the young actor admits. “I tend to keep myself to myself, especially on days where it’s that kind of emotional scene. Emma and I get on very well,’ he told me. When they were filming the ‘Australian’ scenes, on location in Majorca, they ‘roamed around for weeks on electric scooters.’ ”
“But on the day, they go, ‘Action!’ – and I scream in her face. All I want to do is give her a hug and say, ‘I’m so sorry.’ ”
He goes on to explain his heightened performance is inspired by creator Peter Morgan’s writing, which he describes as “Shakespearean in its melodrama.” Josh also drew on Michael Corleone – Al Pacino’s mafia boss character in “The Godfather – remarking, “I definitely referenced him.”
“The Crown” season four debuts on Netflix on 15 November (20).

Emma Corrin Hospitalized After Falling Sick Following Swimming Pool Scene in 'The Crown'

    Instagram

The actress who plays Princess Diana in the upcoming season of the Netflix royal drama series recalls seeking medical treatment following a grueling filming in Spain.

    Nov 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Emma Corrin had to be hospitalised for oxygen treatment after shooting a suffocating scene for “The Crown” in a Spanish swimming pool.
The young star portrays the late Diana, Princess of Wales, in the new season of the hit Netflix show and recalls a gruelling shoot in Spain that culminated with a surprise health scare ahead of her flight back home to the United Kingdom.
“I’m asthmatic and had been ill for a while with a cough,” Emma tells Glamour U.K. of the scary incident. “I had to film a scene in a freezing cold swimming pool. It was the hardest scene to film because I was genuinely keeping myself alive treading water.”
“We were meant to be flying back that night to the U.K. and went past a hospital to get antibiotics. The doctors gave me an oxygen test and said, ‘We can’t let you go because your oxygen levels are so low’ so I was hospitalised.”

And then things got really weird for Emma as staff realised who she was and what she was doing in Spain.
“I remember the nurses figuring out what I was filming and saying, ‘Would you like us to put a cardboard box over your heard so nobody recognises you?’ ” she laughs.
Emma had been recreating the real-life 1983 tour of Australia Princess Diana took with her then-husband Prince Charles, portrayed by Josh O’Connor, during her filming stint in Spain.
Season 4 of “The Crown”, which also stars Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher and Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, debuts on Netflix on Sunday (15Nov20).

'The Crown' Writers Accused of Using 'a Lot of Artistic License' by Buckingham Palace Intruder

    Netflix/Sophie Mutevelian

Weighing in on the series’ depiction of his 1982 incident, Michael Fagan denies that a conversation between him and and Queen Elizabeth II about Margaret Thatcher’s harsh policies took place.

    Nov 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Buckingham Palace intruder Michael Fagan has accused “The Crown” writers of using “a lot of artistic license” in their depiction of the 1982 incident.
The then-unemployed painter and decorator broke into the London residence by climbing the railings of the grounds and finding his way through an open window. Fagan then made his way to Queen Elizabeth II’s bedroom, where he and the monarch came face-to-face.
During the forthcoming fourth season of the Netflix royal drama, Fagan, played by Tom Brooke, is seen breaking into the Queen’s bedroom before speaking to Olivia Colman’s monarch about the harsh policies of the controversial Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher – played by Gillian Anderson.
However, Fagan himself has denied that events happened as they are depicted on the show, telling The Telegraph newspaper that, despite initial reports that up to a half-hour conversation had occurred between the intruder and the Queen, that wasn’t the case.

He maintains that few words were exchanged, revealing, “I pulled back the curtain and she said, ‘What are you doing here?’ ” at which point she spoke “normally” and not in a manner that one would expect, informing him, “I’ll be back in a minute.”
According to Fagan, she then ran from the room before footman Paul Whybrew appeared and offered him a drink of whiskey. The police then arrived to escort Fagan away.
He also told the paper that writer Peter Morgan did not consult him in regards to the script and its depiction of the events.
Season four of “The Crown” will follow the royals as the 1970s ends and Britain is divided by Thatcher’s policies – with Prince Charles’ romance with Lady Diana Spencer providing a welcome distraction for both the public, and the Queen, as she looks to her heir to secure the line of succession to the throne.
It debuts on Netflix on 15 November.

Emma Corrin Struggled to Learn Ballet at 24 to Prepare for Her Role as Princess Diana in 'The Crown'

    Netflix

The ‘Pennyworth’ actress opens up about the biggest challenge when it comes to portraying Lady Diana Spencer in the upcoming fourth installment of the Netflix royal drama series.

    Nov 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Emma Corrin’s biggest challenge in her portrayal of Princess Diana came during the dancing scenes.
The actress, 24, debuts on the fourth season of “The Crown”, which hits Netflix on 15 November (20), with the latest instalment documenting Prince Charles’ romance with Lady Diana Spencer.
Speaking to MailOnline, Corrin confessed that learning her steps for Diana’s favourite past time didn’t come easy, admitting, “I definitely could not dance!”
“Diana’s love of dance was how she expressed herself emotionally, I think,” shared the star, who went on to note that, for her, picking up the routines was frustrating.

“There was a running joke at school that I danced like a spider because my limbs are too long,” she said, adding, “It’s hard to learn ballet when you’re 24! I really held on to the fact that Diana wasn’t a professional dancer.”
Corrin’s admissions come after it was reported by The Sun that the show will air a warning to viewers before episodes covering Diana’s battle with bulimia.
“The following episode includes scenes of an eating disorder which some viewers may find troubling. Viewers discretion is required,” says the notice, ahead of moments showing the late royal gorging on puddings before going into the bathroom and turning on taps to mask the sound of her being sick.
The life and legacy of Lady Diana will also be narrated in a biopic called “Spencer”. She will be played by Kristen Stewart in the movie.
The American actress recently admitted she struggled to master Diana’s English lilt. “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it’s so, so distinct and particular,” she said. “I’m working on it now and already have my dialect coach.”

In the teaser for the upcoming fourth season of the show, set to hit the streamer on 15 November (20), the monarch is seen looking forward to having a female prime minister.
As Tobias Menzies’ Prince Philip says, “Two women running the show – that’s the last thing this country needs,” the Queen responds, “Perhaps that’s exactly what this country needs.”
“I think we have enough respect for one another personally to ask ourselves some of the bigger questions, woman to woman,” Anderson’s Thatcher is heard saying in a voiceover narration.
Writer Peter Morgan muses in a press release, “It could be said that they are two very similar women, born only months apart… It was a commonly held piece of wisdom that the Queen and Thatcher didn’t get on.”

“I think there was probably a lot of respect. But they also had many differences, it was really fun exploring their differences and their similarities”

  • Dominic West Close to Securing 'The Crown' Role as Prince Charles

    WENN/Brian To

The casting reports come after ‘The Affair’ star was spotted kissing Lily James on their way back to Britain from a film shoot in Italy, but insisted that his marriage is solid.

    Oct 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dominic West has reportedly emerged as the favorite to play Prince Charles in the final two seasons of “The Crown”.
The role comes as West attempts to convince the media his marriage is solid after he and Lily James were spotted kissing on their way back to Britain from a film shoot in Italy.

Ironically, the actor’s storyline on “The Crown” will deal with Charles’ alleged affair with his second wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, while he was married to Princess Diana.
An insider tells The Sun, “Show bosses looked at several stars for the sought-after role, but he was by far their preferred actor. Now both parties are hammering out a deal.”

West’s representatives have yet to comment on the casting news.
To add to the irony, Lily James recently split from her longtime boyfriend Matt Smith, who portrayed Charles’ father, Prince Philip, in the first two seasons of “The Crown”.
West’s casting news comes as new photos of him kissing James in Rome emerge, while Lily has pulled out of TV appearances to promote her new Netflix film, “Rebecca”, amid the scandal.
West insists there’s nothing to the photos and he and his wife staged a bizarre show of unity last week, posing for snaps together outside their home in Wiltshire and passing out a note to the U.K. paparazzi, which read, “Our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together.”

“The Crown” will return with its new season 4 on Netflix on November 15. Olivia Colman stars as Queen Elizabeth, with Gillian Anderson joining the cast as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The season will depict the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, played by Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin respectively.

  • 'The Crown' Season 4 Trailer Centers on Prince Charles and Princess Diana's 'Fairy Tale'

    [embedded content]

The trailer of the upcoming season, which will premiere on November 15, of the hit Netflix series also offers the first footage of Gillian Anderson’s Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female Prime Minister.
    Oct 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Crown” has released a new trailer for upcoming season 4 for viewing pleasure. The new footage, which arrived on Tuesday, October 13, puts Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) and Princess Diana (Emma Corrin)’s tragic love story in the spotlight as it also offers a glimpse of their royal wedding.
“Here is the stuff of which fairy tales are made – a prince and princess on their wedding day,” the trailer’s narration says as the scene of Prince Charles happily dancing with Princess Diana flickers on screen. “But fairy tales usually end at this point, with the simple phrase, ‘They lived happily ever after.’ ”
“As husband and wife live out their vows, loving and cherishing one another — sharing life’s splendors and miseries, achievements and setbacks– they will be transformed in the process. Our faith sees the wedding day not as the place of arrival, but the place where the adventure really begins,” the narrator continues.

The trailer also offers the first footage of Gillian Anderson’s Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female Prime Minister. Tension can be seen building between Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) as there’s a power division in the royal family.
Concluding the trailer, Princess Diana is featured wearing her wedding dress. Netflix reveals that costume designer Amy Roberts modeled Diana’s wedding dress after the original but “wanted to create something that wasn’t an exact replica.”
Season 4 of “The Crown” will follow on the heels of season 3’s plot, which ended around the late ’70s on Queen Elizabeth’s 25th year as the United Kingdom’s sovereign leader. A primary focus will be how the Queen and her family are preoccupied with the line of succession and therefore securing an “appropriate” bride for Prince Charles. Thus, the season will chronicle Charles’ romance with a young Lady Diana Spencer, but while it is depicted as a fairy tale to unite the British people, it is anything but a fairy tale for the young woman herself.
“The Crown” season 4 will premiere on November 15 on Netflix.

  • 'The Crown' Will 'Sow Seeds' for Prince Andrew's Scandal in Upcoming Season

    WENN

Prince Andrew will ‘go a bit naughty’ in the upcoming fourth season of the Netflix hit royal drama series, sowing seeds for what would happen in light of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
    Oct 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – The upcoming fourth season of “The Crown” will pave the way for Prince Andrew to “go a bit naughty.”
Creator Peter Morgan tells Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper that writing scenes involving the son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip was “tricky” in light of the recent scandal surrounding the royal.
Andrew is currently wanted for questioning by FBI officials over his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and Morgan reflects, “Andrew, although it is hard to believe given recent events, was the most popular prince and the absolute pin-up of the Royal Family.”
“It was tricky to write because you couldn’t know everything that would happen to Andrew, but you still had to sow seeds so that you knew that one day it could all go a bit naughty.”

The prince is played by Tom Byrne, 23, while Angus Imrie, 26, portrays his brother Prince Edward in the programme – but Morgan reveals it wasn’t always his plan for the siblings to feature heavily in the show.
“We cast actors to play Andrew and Edward although we hadn’t planned to,” he says, adding that his research into Edward’s childhood compelled him to feature the pair.
“I’d never imagined Edward in the show, so I asked my research team to find out what he was doing at that time. It was heartbreaking because at the time he was being badly bullied at school,” he explained.
Season four of the hit streaming drama documenting the reign of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II is due to debut in November. Returning are Olivia Colman, as Queen Elizabeth, and Tobias Menzies, as her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The show will follow the royals as the 1970s ends and Britain is divided by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s policies – with Prince Charles’ romance with Lady Diana Spencer providing a welcome distraction for both the public, and the Queen, as she looks to her heir to secure the line of succession to the throne.
