AceShowbiz – Anya Taylor-Joy “would jump at the chance” to make a second series of “The Queen’s Gambit”.
The British actress starred as chess prodigy Beth Harmon in season one of the hit Netflix series and speaking after the show’s success at the Golden Globes on Sunday, February 28, Anya confirmed she’d relish the chance to reprise the role.
“I adore the entire team that made it and I would jump at the chance to work with them again,” she told Entertainment Tonight, before adding that the demand for a second season came as a shock to her and the makers of the programme.
“We just never thought about it,” she insisted. “It was always a sapling to tree transition. You see her grow, you leave her in a good place. So we were genuinely surprised when people were like, ‘Where’s season two?’ ”

    Dec 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Thomas Brodie-Sangster became a better chess player after starring in hit Netflix show “The Queen’s Gambit”.
The actor stars as Benny Watts in the miniseries, which has exponentially increased the popularity of the game of chess. And in an interview with Chess.com about his role in the show, Thomas admitted that learning about the game for the show meant he learned how to play properly in real life.
“I did (become a better player)! And I even learned a couple of openings, which are completely gone now,” he said. “But at the moment, yeah, we were playing with some great players and we were very much invested in that world. And I was excited by it, I loved it! I saw it as, you know, it’s a beautiful game that’s been played for hundreds and hundreds of years, and it’s infinitely complicated.”

“The knowledge that you have to understand and the memory of each game that’s been played in the past, and then kind of put that into a reflection of what you need to do in front of your board. And it’s just moving bits of wood around a board, that’s all it is, but I learned the beauty of it. That’s what I would say.”
“The Queen’s Gambit”, also starring Anya Taylor-Joy, is available to watch on Netflix now.
On October 28, the series became the most watched series of the day on Netflix and had been watched by over 62 million households by the end of November. It topped Nielsen’s U.S. streaming rankings for three consecutive weeks and deemed Netflix’s biggest scripted limited series to date.

The show, based on Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel, made the top 10 in 92 countries and ranked number one in 63, including the U.K., Argentina, Israel and South Africa.
Celebrating the show’s record-breaking run on Monday (November 23), Netflix VP of original series Peter Friedlander released a statement, which read, “Three years ago when Scott Frank first approached us about adapting ‘The Queen’s Gambit’… we felt it was a compelling tale. However, I don’t think any of us could have predicted that ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ – and the extraordinary Anya Taylor-Joy – would become the global phenomena they are today, or our biggest limited scripted series ever.”
Series creator Scott Frank also commented on the viewers’ response to his show, “I am both delighted and dazed by the response.” He added in a statement, “It’s just all way beyond what any of us could have imagined. But speaking for my fellow producers and the entire cast and crew of the show, every one of whom made me look better than I actually am, we are most grateful that so many took the time to watch our show.”
The highest-ranking Netflix releases include “The Witcher”, which scored 76 million within the first 28 days after it was released last year, and documentary-series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”, which generated 64 million views over the same time period earlier this year.
