The Who Get Candid About Reasons Behind Their Reluctance in Making Another Album

    WENN/Mario Mitsis

While Roger Daltrey claims that they made a financial loss on their 2019 record ‘Who’, Pete Townshend admits there is a certain amount of resentment between the two of them.

    Mar 1, 2021
AceShowbiz – The Who may not make another album because they won’t make any money from it.
The “My Generation” group – which now comprises of just Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend – are proud of how well-received 2019’s Who was, but they made a loss on the record and there was tension between the two of them, so they are reluctant to do it again.
Roger told Uncut magazine, “Will there be another Who album? I don’t know.”
“There’s no record market any more. Everybody talks about streaming, but have you seen what artists get from that? It’s a joke.”
“It was great to have an album out there, something that the fans liked, and I was really proud of it.”
“But far too much money was spent making it. It went out of control completely and ended up costing me money. I can’t go on doing that.”
And Pete admitted the difficulties they had making Who has put him off wanting to make another record “a little bit”.

He said, “It was tough. I think it was tough for Roger too. I think he and I have found a sort of common ground over it, but there is still a sense that we only just about got it done.”
“There’s a certain amount of resentment on both sides. Partly on Roger’s side, perhaps, resentment that we were paid a lot of money for the album and it was all spent making it.”
“On my side, the fact that Roger was so actively diffident at first.”
“Now he’s proud of what he did on the record and so he should be because he did such a great job.”
“But our process is now just me and him and we’re very different – politically, socially, spiritually, different in every respect. But we happen to be in this band together.”
Despite this, the 75-year-old guitarist admitted he’d still like to make another album.
He added, “I do want to make another one and I probably will. It’s been on my mind a lot.”

Pete Townshend Has Amassed 'Pages and Pages of Draft Lyrics' for The Who's Next Album

    WENN

Pete plans to reunite with bandmate Roger Daltrey in recording studio to work on their band’s next studio installment as the reminder of their tour is canceled due to Covid-19 crisis.

    Feb 21, 2021
AceShowbiz – Rocker Pete Townshend is plotting to team up with singer Roger Daltrey after lockdown for a new The Who album.
The guitarist, 75, is working in his home studio and “wants to make another” record if it’s worthwhile financially, insisting streaming income is “a joke.”
“There’s pages and pages of draft lyrics,” he says, reported Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper. “If the moment comes, I’ll go in and start.”

The band released their 12th studio album, “Who”, in 2019 to critical acclaim, but the star admits he and frontman Daltrey, 76, “only just about got it done” due to their differing views.
“We’re very different – politically, socially, spiritually, in every respect,” he adds. “But we happen to be in this band together.”
Amid the pandemic, the rockers have been forced to cancel previously-postponed plans to tour the U.K. and Ireland. The musicians had originally rescheduled the March, 2020 dates for this year (21), but ongoing coronavirus concerns prompted them to ditch the shows altogether to avoid possibly having to rebook the gigs once more.
“We are very sorry that we have to cancel our planned March 2021 UK and Ireland shows. Please excuse the delay but we wanted to wait as long as possible to see if we could indeed play them. However, as you can see the current situation makes this impossible. Thanks for all your wonderful support and we hope to see you in the future when conditions allow,” the duo issued a joint apology following the cancellation.

    Mar 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Who are delaying the North American leg of their “Moving On! Tour” due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Rockers Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey announced the jaunt had been delayed until the fall of 2020, in a statement on the group’s official website.
“The April and May stops on The Who’s Moving On! Tour are proactively being rescheduled to the fall/autumn out of an abundance of caution,” the statement reads. “As soon as we have the dates finalized we’ll share the updated schedule, and all tickets will be honored accordingly. Thank you for your understanding.”
“Both Pete and Roger — and the rest of The Who band — cannot wait to get out there and be with you all and share in some great music. Long live rock.”

The Moving On! Tour’s North American leg was scheduled to begin April 21, and included the band’s first Cincinnati-area concert since a stampede incident at their show on December 3, 1979, resulted in the deaths of 11 fans.
The dates also included a trio of rescheduled gigs and a six-night residency at Las Vegas’ the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
