  • Tom Hardy May Be Announced as the New James Bond This Year

    WENN

Words are the ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ actor has been set to replace Daniel Craig in the next 007 movie after he expressed interest in making a Bond film with Christopher Nolan.
    Sep 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Hardy’s name has once again surfaced in the talks about who is going to be next James Bond. Over the weekend, report emerged that the 43-year-old Brit has been set to replace Daniel Craig in an upcoming 007 movie.
According to The Vulcan Reporter, the plan was for the “Venom” star to be announced as the new Bond in November in line with the release of “No Time to Die”. However, with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that has affected people’s response to theatrical releases, it’s likely that the announcement is pushed back to early 2021 if “No Time to Die” is delayed again.
Though Hardy has long been linked to rumors of possible Craig replacement, the latest casting speculation doesn’t seem to have a strong base so it should be taken with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, the Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” has several times spoken about the possibility of him becoming the next MI6 agent.

“That conversation (playing James Bond) will never happen until they’re ready to move into new pastures. I think every boy wants to play James Bond to a certain degree!” he admitted to In:Demand Showbiz back in 2015.
Two years later, he hinted that he was keen to play Bond, but didn’t want to jinx things by discussing it too much. “If I mention it, it’s gone,” he told The Daily Beast in 2017. “You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one.”
He also expressed interest in making a 007 movie with Christopher Nolan, who directed him in “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises”. “Oh, wow, Chris would be amazing!” he said about the possibility to Nolan taking over the 007 franchise. “Wow, that would be cool. That would be so cool.”

Tom Hardy Uses Real Gun for Mobster Movie 'Capone'

    Bron Studios

According to director Josh Trank, he employed a professional weapons wrangler to handle the gun on the movie set when it’s not being used for filming or rehearsal.
    May 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Director Josh Trank was so intent on having a real 1920s Tommy gun in his new movie “Capone” a weapons wrangler had to be on set at all times.
The gun was a real, functioning automatic weapon that would have been lethal if loaded.
“That was pretty much what everyone wanted to take from the set,” Trank tells WENN. “It was a real gun that they made.”
“Because it’s a functioning automatic weapon, which is illegal for a civilian to own, we had to have a professional gun wrangler, who was the only person allowed to handle it unless Tom Hardy was carrying it for the scene or to rehearse with it.”
“The gun wrangler would stand from a safe distance and just observe. At one point I was allowed to hold it for a picture, which is on my Instagram. It’s a great picture.”
The gun helped Hardy get into character as ruthless gangster Al Capone as did the contact lenses and makeup created by Audrey Doyle, who won a BAFTA award for her work with Hardy on the series “Taboo”.
“We spent a good year and a half throwing ideas back and forth about every aspect of his (Capone) physicality, and the voice and the wardrobe,” Trank explains. “We played around with the different phases of the syphilitic scarring. What I did notice as we got into a more refined place with the look of Tom in the film, for me in an observational way it was undeniable how Brando-like he looks. In addition to a prosthetic make-up look that we had formed, there were a series of contact lenses specifically designed for the various stages of his physical decline throughout the film.”
“I believe there were about four different contact lenses, starting out with a little bit of red in the eyes, then more darkness to the red and by the very last scene in the movie they were fully inflamed (bloodshot). They don’t seem to be comfortable from what I could tell. In some way that lack of comfort contributed to the performance in a lot of ways.”
“Then he had five hours of prosthetics caked onto his face where there’s a certain amount of brain sensation that comes with the kind of chemicals (for the adhesive) they need to get it on him. I’m certain all of that led him to portray somebody who’s in a physically degenerative state.”
“Capone” is now available as an on-demand release in the U.S.

Tom Hardy Teetering on His Old Glory in First 'Capone' Trailer

    BRON Studios

The Josh Trank-directed biopic about notorious gangster Al Capone will be made available as video on demand on May 12 as opposed to its planned theatrical release.
    Apr 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – The first trailer for Josh Trank’s “Capone” is here for fans’ viewing pleasure. The director dropped the sneak-peek video via his Twitter account, while excitedly announcing the new title for the movie, which was initially called “Fonzo”, taken from a nickname for Al Capone’s full first name, Alphonse.
Following “America’s most notorious gangster” Al Capone, the movie follows the real-life criminal in his latter days. The mobster, who made a name for himself in the Prohibition era, starts suffering from dementia and comes to be haunted by his violent past after spending 10 years in prison for tax evasion.
But as the movie and its trailer suggest, Capone might have been faking his illness to protect a large stash of money he had hidden away. “You know what the difference is between Adolph Hitler and Al Capone? Hitler’s dead. Capone was like a king in Florida,” someone says in the video.
Tom Hardy perfectly portrays the aging gangster, who is pretty much infatuated with his cigar. In between scenes of him reminiscing his glorious days, the video offers hints of what he fears the most. At the end of the video, he’s seen tearing up while he says in voiceover about what matters the most in life.
According to the official synopsis, “Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present. Harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life. As he spends his final year surrounded by family with the FBI lying in wait, this ailing patriarch struggles to place the memory of the location of millions of dollars he hid away on his property.”

The movie also stars Linda Cardellini as Mae Capone, with Jack Lowden as FBI Agent Crawford and Matt Dillon as Johnny. The pic marks Trank’s first directorial stint after the critically-panned “Fantastic Four” (2015), with many expecting that he will redeem it with the upcoming crime thriller.
With theaters closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment are teaming up to release “Capone” on VOD on May 12. Trank is still hopeful for a theatrical release sometime later this year, though.
