AceShowbiz – Bosses at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival and Youtube have joined forces to present a 10-day digital film spectacular.
The event will feature productions that were set to screen at 20 major festivals throughout the world, including Cannes, Toronto and Venice ahead of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We Are One: A Global Film Festival” will kick off on YouTube beginning May 29 and feature films, shorts, documentaries, music and comedy.
“We often talk about film’s uniquely powerful role in inspiring and uniting people across borders and differences to help heal the world. All of the world needs healing right now,” said Jane Rosenthal, CEO of Tribeca Enterprises and co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival. ” ‘We Are One: A Global Film Festival’ unites curators, artists and storytellers to entertain and provide relief to audiences worldwide. In working with our extraordinary festival partners and YouTube we hope that everyone gets a taste of what makes each festival so unique and appreciates the art and power of film.”

Donations made by viewers during the free event will benefit the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
The news comes following Amazon Prime Video’s partnership with bosses at the SXSW Film Festival to stream projects that were set to be shown at the March event before it was cancelled.

Tribeca Film Festival Goes Online to Present 2020 Programs After Coronavirus Delays Live Event

About the drastic move, CEO Jane Rosenthal points out that Tribeca ‘were founded after the devastation of 9/11 and it’s in our DNA to bring communities together through the arts.’
    Apr 4, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tribeca Film Festival founder Jane Rosenthal has announced the gathering will now take place online after the live event was postponed.
The 19th in-person annual festival set to take place in New York City mid-month (April) has been postponed due to the coronavirus, but now film buffs will have a chance to experience movies, juries, awards and other elements of the assembly on the Internet.
“As human beings, we are navigating uncharted waters,” Tribeca Film Festival CEO Rosenthal told Deadline in a statement announcing the online move on Friday (April 03). “While we cannot gather in person to lock arms, laugh, and cry, it’s important for us to stay socially and spiritually connected. Tribeca is about resiliency, and we fiercely believe in the power of artists to bring us together. We were founded after the devastation of 9/11 (2001 New York City terrorist attacks) and it’s in our DNA to bring communities together through the arts.”
The festival will take place online on The Tribeca Industry Extranet Resource Hub on 15-26 April, the same dates as the original in-person gathering was due to take place.

Tribeca Film Festival Becomes Latest Major Event Affected by Coronavirus Pandemic

Though the event’s dates miss New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s statewide ban of gatherings, co-founder Jane Rosenthal notes they ‘are committed to ensuring the health and safety of the public.’
    Mar 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Festival has been postponed following New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s statewide ban of gatherings of more than 500 people.
The event was due to take place from April 15 to 26, missing the Governor’s ban until April 12, but organisers have opted not to take any chances, according to Deadline.
In a statement to the outlet, Tribeca co-founder and CEO of Tribeca Enterprises Jane Rosenthal writes, “We founded the Tribeca Film Festival as a way to heal our community after the devastation of the 9/11 attacks in 2001. We were determined to overcome our fear and anxiety by joining together. It is in our DNA to march forward while caring about our community.”

“We have made the difficult decision to postpone the 19th Tribeca Film Festival (April 15-26) based on the announcement by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that events of 500 people or more are banned due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. We are committed to ensuring the health and safety of the public while also supporting our friends, filmmakers and storytellers who look to Tribeca as a platform to showcase their work to audiences. We will be back to you shortly with our plans.”
