  • 'AGT' Recap: Heidi Klum Returns as Final Season 15 Auditions Continue From Home

    NBC

The auditions of season 15 of the NBC show are suspended after 9 days due to the coronavirus pandemic, leading the competition to continue with at-home auditions.
    Jul 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – “America’s Got Talent” returned with a new episode on Tuesday, July 14 for final season 15 auditions. It started normally in the studio, sans an audience, with judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel witnessing the contestants perform in person. As for Heidi Klum, she was still at home due to health reason.
Kicking off the show was Alex Hooper, who was booed off the stage when he performed two seasons ago. Now, he offered a much improved performance, much to the judges’ liking. Following it up was The Lightwave Theater Company, who took the stage with their lifesize puppetry. Sofia loved it and called it “very special.”

Singer Kameron Ross then sang “Red Dirt Road” but Simon stopped him midway his performance to ask him sing a capella. It was much better and Kameron moved on to the next round. John Austin later gave a bizarre yet interesting performance. First, it looked like he was just saying gibberish, but when it was played in reverse, it turned out that he was singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. Howie gave him a standing ovation. While Simon didn’t dig into it, Sofia sent John to the next round with a second yes.

Chicken Scratch Sam brought laugh to the studio as he walked out in a full chicken costume. Howie praised him, saying that he was “so funny and silly and brilliant.” He moved on after Sofia gave him a yes. Also going to the next round was stand-up comedian John Hastings.

The Ninja Twins hit the stage to perform synchronized dancing and singing, but it wasn’t Simon’s cup of tea. However, Sofia and Howie liked it so they went through to judge cuts. Performing Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts”, Jefferson Davis High marching band awed the judges. Meanwhile, Siena Uremovic stunned the judges as she flaunted her dancing and acrobatic skills while blindfolded. She headed to judge cuts.

A singer, who later revealed that his name is Sheldon Riley, sang an incredible rendition of Billie Eilish’s “Idontwannabeyouanymore”. Unsurprisingly, he moved to the judge cuts.

The auditions of “AGT” were then suspended after 9 days due to the coronavirus pandemic. The competition continued with at-home auditions while Heidi finally returned after missing the show for a few weeks. Among the incredible performers were singing duo Chris and Sid, adorable dog act Alexis Brownley, amazing mentalist Max Major and opera singer Erin McCarthy.

  • Idris Elba Is Against Censoring 'Racist' Contents on TV

    WENN

The ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ actor says problematic contents should be accompanied with a warning instead of being censored or pulled out of television.
    Jul 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Idris Elba has called on TV networks to avoid censoring shows with “racist” content, and instead introduce a rating system to educate viewers on outdated practices. In the wake of Black Lives Matter protests against systematic racism worldwide, sitcoms including “Little Britain”, which see stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams use blackface make-up in some sketches, were recently dropped from on demand services including Netflix.
“Golden Girls”, “The Office”, “Scrubs”, and “30 Rock” are among the shows that have also been impacted.
However, speaking to Radio Times magazine, Idris insisted he’s “very much a believer in freedom of speech,” and called on executives to introduce a ratings system warning viewers that a film or show has outdated, insulting viewpoints.
While not referring to a specific programme, he said, “To mock the truth, you have to know the truth. But to censor racist themes within a show, to pull it… I think viewers should know that people made shows like this.”
“Commissioners and archive-holders pulling things they think are exceptionally tone-deaf at this time – fair enough and good for you,” the star continued. “But I think, moving forward, people should know that freedom of speech is accepted, but the audience should know what they’re getting into.”
“I don’t believe in censorship,” the “In the Long Run” actor added. “I believe that we should be allowed to say what we want to say. Because, after all, we’re story-makers.”
During the chat, Idris also suggested that boosting diversity needs a change in attitude, reflecting, “Money helps… (But) it’s a shift in attitude, in perspective, in tolerance. And you can’t put an amount on that.”

  • Tyra Banks Joins 'DWTS' as New Host and Executive Producer

    Instagram

This arrives just a day after ABC confirmed that longtime OG host Tom Bergeron and his co-host Erin Andrews wouldn’t be returning for the new season of the show.
    Jul 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Dancing with the Stars” ballroom is welcoming a new face! Just a day after ABC confirmed longtime OG host Tom Bergeron and his co-host Erin Andrews’ exits, the dancing competition show has found a new host. Tyra Banks has been tapped to be the new host for the new season of the show.
According to TMZ, the model and former “America’s Got Talent” host will serve as the show’s executive producer in addition to taking on the hosting duty. It is said that Tyra, who used to host “America’s Next Top Model”, was in talks with the Alphabet network long before it cut ties with Tom and Erin.
“I’ve been a fan of ‘DWTS’ since its beginning. The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the sizzling dance performances,” Tyra said in a statement on Tuesday, July 14. “It’s always transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the catwalk. Tom has set a powerful stage, and I’m excited to continue the legacy and put on my executive producer and hosting hats.”
This arrives after Tom announced his departure from the show after 15 years on his Twitter account. “Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me,” he wrote to his followers without elaborating the shocking decision on Monday. “It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?”
Confirming Tom’s departure from the show, ABC said in a statement, “Tom Bergeron will forever be part of the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ family. As we embark on a new creative direction, he departs the show with our sincerest thanks and gratitude for his trademark wit and charm that helped make this show a success.”
The statement continued, “Erin will also not be returning, and we appreciate all that she brought to the ballroom. Fans have been rooting for her since she originally competed as a contestant back in 2010, and her signature sense of humor has become a hallmark of the show.”
There is still no detail about how “DWTS” will proceed amid coronavirus pandemic. However, one of the certain things about the new season is that “The Bachelor” alum Kaitlyn Bristowe will appear on the show.

The ‘Cool for the Summer’ hitmaker says she will ‘forever cherish’ the opportunity to play the late actress’ onscreen girlfriend on the FOX hit television series.
    Jul 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Demi Lovato has remembered her time working with the late Naya Rivera on “Glee” in a heartfelt tribute to the late star.
After her disappearance last Wednesday (08Jul20), authorities finally found a body they believe to be Naya’s during a search of a cove in Lake Piru in Ventura County, California, where the actress had been swimming with her son Josey, four.
Following the confirmation of the sad news on Monday, “Skyscraper” hitmaker Demi – who starred as Dani in the U.S. TV show – took to Twitter to pay tribute to the mum-of-one, admitting she’ll “forever cherish the opportunity to play your girlfriend on Glee.”
“The character you played was groundbreaking for tons of closeted queer girls (like me at the time) and open queer girls, and your ambition and accomplishments were inspiring to Latina women all over the world,” Demi shared. “My heart goes out to your loved ones at this time.”

Following news that Naya was missing last week, the singer took to her Instagram Story on Thursday and posted a photo of a lit candle with the message, “Please pray for @nayarivera to be found safe and sound.”
Several of Naya’s “Glee” co-stars, including Kevin McHale, Jane Lynch, and Amber Riley have shared tributes online, as her friends, family and castmates, including close pal Heather Morris, lined up and they held hands on the shores of the lake on Monday afternoon.
The discovery of the body, which has yet to be formally identified but authorities are confident is Naya’s, coincides with another sad anniversary for the stars of the Fox musical drama – it is also the seventh anniversary of actor Cory Monteith’s death, following his accidental drug overdose in 2013.

    Jul 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jimmy Fallon is back in the studio! The TV host made his return to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” studio at 30 Rockefeller Center after months of hosting the show from home due to COVID-19 pandemic.
In the emotional episode, Fallon greeted his viewers, “As you can see, we’re back in the studio at 30 Rockefeller Plaza here in New York City. And as a New Yorker, I want to say thank you to everyone who helped get us to where we are now, wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands, quarantining, it all helps.”
“And to all the states going through the tough parts right now, our friends in Florida, Arizona, Texas, California, all over the South, I know how hard it is and I’m not gonna lie to you–it’s rough,” he added. “But I guess, I’m here to show you that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel if we all do our part to keep each other safe.”
“I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but normalcy, any type of normalcy, feels great,” Fallon continued, getting a bit choked up as he addressed viewers. “So hopefully we can put a smile on your face for an hour every night and let you sit back and relax while we try to bring you a little bit of normal.”
“The show will be a little bit different than what you’re used to,” he went on to explain. “There is no audience, the guests will be streaming from home, but I think, in some ways, we are getting used different. So we are here for you and slowly and safely getting back to work and back to whatever normal is. Welcome again to ‘The Tonight Show’, and thanks for watching.”

Later in the episode, Jimmy was joined by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Charlize Theron as his guests through video chat. He praised Cuomo for his leadership for getting New York back to normal, to which the latter responded, “Welcome back! New York is really open now that you’re doing your show again.”

After talking about the novel virus, Jimmy asked Cuomo about his dating life. “Zero. I’m at phase zero on dating,” the governor opened up. “There’s no duration on phase zero, there is no automatic time to go to phase one you could stay at phase zero for months! I think New York City will be fully re-opened before I get out of phase zero on dating.”

  • Tamar Braxton Compares 'Braxton Family Values' With 'KUTWK': 'We Make 75 Percent LESS'

    WE tv/E!

In a tweet, Tamar points out the mistreatment that her family experienced on WE tv including being paid much less than the Kardashians for ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ despite her singing the theme song for ‘BFV’.
    Jul 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tamar Braxton blasted “Braxton Family Values” executive producers in a series of tweets on Monday, July 13. The discussion started after a fan took to Twitter to share that s/he missed the show on TV before Tamar actually caught wind of the tweet.
“I am in TEARSSSS why @TamarBraxtonHer do her mama @EvelynBraxton like that I miss #BraxtonFamilyValues,” the person said alongside a clip of the show. The post prompted one other user to note that the show was funny in the first few seasons before “it became a drama.”
Tamar then responded to the conversation, writing, “& STILL more DRAMA till this day! but that’s what happens when it’s all white executives having all the power & telling your black family stories I WILL get justice for my family and all other black reality shows with the narrative of ABP & negativity. it’s TERRIBLE& I’m tired.”
She then added in a separate post, “Your post is exactly what I’m talking about. I too feel the same way. It used to be funny and fun. But some will say well you actually said or did the negative things. True but now true. It’s the context. And that’s why they do it. To ruin your credibility.”
Another fan then chimed in, hoping that Tamar and her family would bring the show to black-owned network. “I wish y’all could work out a deal with a black owned network. Any one of them would be ecstatic to have the Braxton Family! @BET @OWNTV @bouncetv @tvonetv We ALL remember the ratings that @BFV_WEtv brought to @WEtv !! #PayThemTheirWorth #PayThemTheirRespect,” said the person.
In response to the tweet, Tamar pointed out the mistreatment that she and her family experienced on WE tv. She shared that they were paid much less than the Kardashians for “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” despite her singing the theme song for “Braxton Family Values”, which aired its last episode in June 2019.
“Are we going to talk about pay…. I 100 percent wrote the theme song… where is the coin… our show is on Netflix…. where is the coin… 10 years on The air… we make 75 percent LESS than the kardashians. How come there are no villains on that show,” she tweeted.

Tamar Brexton discussed ‘Braxton Family Values’ on Twitter.
Concluding her statement, Tamar said that she wasn’t ranting. “This isn’t a rant. This started from a statement with a fan saying how much they missed how funny my family was. They stopped watching because it was so much Drama. So this is not ‘crazy Tamar’ which is always the story when I’m telling the truth,” she said in a now-deleted post.
