Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis in Talks to Do 'True Lies' Spin-Off

    WENN

The original stars of the 1994 action movie, who played husband and wife Harry and Helen Tasker, are said to have recurring roles in the first season of the Disney+ series.
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis are reportedly in talks to reprise their roles in “True Lies” for a TV spin-off.
The stars, who played husband and wife in the 1994 action movie, have been circling a Disney+ series inspired by the James Cameron movie in recent months and according to the entertainment news website We Got This Covered, they will have recurring roles in the show’s first season – but they are not expected to lead the cast.
The film followed a secret agent who allows his wife to participate in a spy mission after he fears she is having an affair.
The news comes after “Terminator Salvation” director McG revealed last year (19) that he was involved in a planned television series.
Curtis previously shot down rumors of a sequel to the production, insisting it would not be appropriate to spoof terrorism in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
”I don’t think we could ever do another ‘True Lies’ after 9/11,” she shared during a 2019 press conference. ”This was pre-9/11… we could make fun of terrorism because it was so outrageous.”
But she confessed the role was one of her career favorites.
” ‘True Lies’ is just a perfect combination of everything I would do well in every way,” she shared. “It was just a perfect canvas. It was such a giant scope and Jim (Cameron) hired me, he wrote it for me… he just let me do what I do.”

The news comes as Curtis and her Comet Pictures associates sign a three-year, first-look deal with bosses at horror movie studio Blumhouse. Among the projects already in production is thriller “Mother Nature”.

Ruby Rose: Decision to Quit 'Batwoman' Was Not One I Made Lightly

    The CW

After taking on the role of Kate Kane and her crime-fighting alter ego for only one season, the ‘Orange Is the New Black’ star announces that she will not return for the second season.
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ruby Rose won’t be back as TV’s groundbreaking “Batwoman” – the Australian star has quit the series after one season.
The “Orange Is the New Black” star made huge headlines when she was cast as Kate Kane and her crime-fighting alter ego in 2018, becoming the first openly-gay TV comic book superhero, but the role came with a lot of drama off camera.
“Batwoman” devotees made it clear they weren’t thrilled about Rose’s casting and she suffered a sickening on-set accident, which left her needing emergency neck surgery. Rose also had a horrific allergic reaction to the tape used to secure her mask, causing her to break out in hives.
However, the series debuted to rave reviews and a second season has already been secured – without Ruby.
Announcing her “very difficult decision” to quit “Batwoman” in a statement, the actress writes, “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”
“I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created… Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.”
Series co-creator Berlanti has assured fans the show will go on with another actress as Kane/Batwoman.
“Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best,” a production statement reads. “The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we – along with the show’s talented creative team – look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

Ava DuVernay Cites First Amendment as She Seeks to Dismiss Lawsuit Over Her Show 'When They See Us'

    WENN

The ‘When They See Us’ director and Netflix bosses are asking judge to throw out the lawsuit filed by Central Park Five prosecutor Linda Fairstein following the premiere of their TV show.
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ava DuVernay and Netflix bosses are seeking the dismissal of Central Park Five prosecutor Linda Fairstein’s lawsuit alleging their TV series “When They See Us” defamed her.
Fairstein sued over the Emmy-winning series in March, alleging the four-part show, about five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem who were unfairly convicted of raping a white woman, Trisha Meili, while she was jogging in New York City’s Central Park, was defamatory.
According to Deadline.com, DuVernay and Netflix executives are now seeking the dismissal of the ex-prosecutor’s suit, citing the protection of the U.S. First Amendment.
“Plaintiff’s claims fail under the First Amendment as a matter of law,” a motion filed in Florida on Monday, May 18, 2020 by the Oscar-nominated director, Netflix chiefs, and co-defendant WTSU producer and writer Attica Locke, reads, “Material falsity is essential to any defamation claim and is an element Plaintiff must establish.”
The 36 page filing describes the show as an “artistic dramatization of controversial and contested historical events” and states that Fairstein’s argument that writers “puts words in her mouth” is a “non sequitur” and so the defamation suit should be dismissed.
Fairstein claims the show unfairly depicted her as a “racist, unethical villain who is determined to jail innocent children of color at any cost” and that her portrayal by Felicity Huffman in the miniseries features “complete fabrications and (is) readily contradicted by evidence in the public record.”
DuVernay and her co-defendants also want the lawsuit dismissed as they have no connection to Florida, where Fairstein recently moved and filed her complaint.
At the time of the conviction of Raymond Santana, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, and Korey Wise for the crime in 1990, the prosecutor turned crime novelist took credit for their convictions. However, those convictions were vacated in 2002 after it became clear they were innocent, following a confession by serial rapist and murderer Matias Reyes.

Egypt Criss Announces 'Growing Up Hip Hop' Exit

    Instagram

Her exit comes after co-star Romeo Miller called out the producers of the WE tv reality TV show for creating ‘fake drama’ with Angela Simmons in a tweet back in February.
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Season 5 seemingly will be the last season featuring Egypt Criss. The daughter of Treach shared on her social media account that she had decided to “walk away” from the WE tv’s reality TV series.
“I respect myself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves me, grows me or makes me happy,” she said on Instagram. “It’s time for me to rise from the ashes from being falsely represented to you, the people I love most, which is why I have decided to resign from Growing Up Hip Hop.”
Concluding her post, Egypt added several hashtags including #itsbeenreal, #allgoodthingsmustcometoanend and #movingforward.

Fans, however, were not really convinced that she would really exit the show. “She’ll be back. Her master, Samantha, not leaving that camera time,” a fan noted. Speaking of Egypt’s fiance Sam, another fan added, “Her man need that show more than she does tho….now let’s see how long they stay together after she off that show!” One other wrote, “She’s in way over her head and her ‘man’ is using her. I hope she gets away from his soon.”
Seemingly thinking that the decision to leave was the best, someone said, “Egypt needed her own moment, even at the expense of her own self worth. I wish her well and better. Her brother was willing to take anyone down for her. She needs to do the same.”
Someone else, meanwhile, believed that leaving the show wouldn’t hurt Egypt financially. “Her mom is rich she definitely didn’t need to do this show,” said the person.
Her exit comes after co-star Romeo Miller slammed “Growing Up Hip Hop” producers for creating “fake drama” with Angela Simmons. Responding to an article which claimed that “things get awkward” between him and Angela, Romeo tweeted in February, “Literally was dealing with my autie death and hopped on a plane right after this scene to make her funeral.”
“Great editing tho. Was literally in and out and came to show love to Egypt for HER engagement,” he added. “Yall gotta stop with the fake drama, but that’s why I left the show.”

John Legend Gets Emotional After Helping 'The Voice' Contestant Clear Prince's Song

    NBC

The ‘Voice’ judge and the contestant under his wing Cammwess are overwhelmed with emotions after the former managed to clear ‘Purple Rain’ for the latter’s performance.
    May 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Voice” contestant CammWess was left in tears on Monday night’s show, May 18, 2020 after his coach John Legend managed to clear Prince classic “Purple Rain” for him to perform on the programme.
While countless hit songs have been taken on by hopefuls on the U.S. TV talent show over the years, “Purple Rain” has never been one of them. But after John got involved, he managed to secure the tune for his act to belt out on Monday’s episode – a feat that was entirely appreciated by CammWess.
“Purple Rain has never been cleared for a performance on The Voice,” John explained as he introduced the performance. “I got an e-mail from one of the managers (asking), ‘John, will you vouch for this guy CammWess?’ I was like, ‘I will absolutely vouch for CammWess.’ ”
“It’s poetic, it’s really crazy,” CammWess replied. “I’m not gonna lie, I cried about it.”
And even his mentor John got a little choked up.
“I’m getting emotional thinking about it with you. I just want you to show out, make it like you singing at the Super Bowl in the rain,” he said referencing the late singer’s iconic 2007 Super Bowl performance. “That’s how you win The Voice.”
“The Voice” finale airs on Tuesday night, May 19, 2020 in the U.S.

'90 Day Fiance' Star Ashley Martson Hints at Never Returning to the Show With Jay Smith

    TLC

In a new Instagram post, the 33-year-old TLC personality, who is currently quarantining with Jay, weighs in on the possibility of them making a return to the reality show.
    May 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Fans of TLC’s “90 Day Fiance” may not see Ashley Martson and Jay Smith again in an upcoming season of the reality TV show. In a new Instagram post, Ashley weighed in on the possibility of them making a return to the show.
“I wish everyday I could do a tell all on reality tv. I think most of the population with half a brain gets it but theres a large amount who definitely don’t,” so she wrote over the weekend. “unfortunately, I am a dumba** who signed a confidentiality contract for life and I got too much to lose.”
She added, “So I’m gonna go ahead and shut up now and drunk some water and mind my business. Carry on.”
Later during a Q&A session, a fan asked her if she could “do a tell all with what happened with tlc.” In response, Ashley replied, “Nah, I’m better then that. On to the next! Life is falling right how I would like it to so no need to tear anyone down!”
Ashley and Jay have been dating on-and-off with them recently reconciliating. The pair, who went on to go through divorce processes multiple times, are currently quarantining together in Pennsylvania after Ashley brought Jay over from Jamaica to the United States.
Some fans were seemingly not impressed with them getting back together as one commented in one of her posts, “How many times do you have to get hurt both emotionally/financially before you finally learn?” Ashley caught wind of it and didn’t hesitate to clap back, saying, “Fifty-leven days, umpteen hours.”
Someone else, meanwhile, called her desperate for always coming back to someone who always cheats on her. “Desperate is coming to someone’s page you don’t even follow and talking s**t. Like you literally had to look me up and come here to make this comment. Get a f***ing life,” Ashley hotly responded.

Ansel Elgort Studies Journalism and Japanese in Preparation for 'Tokyo Vice'

    WENN

Impressed by the dedication the ‘Baby Driver’ actor showed to master his character, director Michael Mann claims that he is doing ‘a very immersive piece of work’.
    May 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Moviemaker Michael Mann was impressed with Ansel Elgort’s preparation for new movie “Tokyo Vice”, revealing the “Baby Driver” star studied journalism and Japanese to master his character.
The actor plays a newshound who clashes with a major crime boss in the new movie, which was six days into production in Tokyo when the coronavirus shut down the film, and Mann is keen to get back behind the camera after raving about his leading man.
“Ansel has been ferocious, in prep (preparation),” the director tells Deadline. “He wrote about three stories. Lowell Bergman, my friend from ‘The Insider’ (film), hooked us up with Jason Felch, who teaches journalism but was an investigative reporter at the LA (Los Angeles) Times, and James Queally, a great crime reporter at the LA Times. We spent a time in South Central, downtown, and Ansel did three different stories to learn the complications of that job…”
“He (also) threw himself in a four-hour, Japanese-language only classes every day (sic). After an intense four weeks, he can walk into a restaurant and have a conversation and Japanese-speakers say his accent is good…”
“I’m thrilled with what I’m seeing. It’s a very immersive piece of work he’s doing. That’s what I wanted from him, and it’s certainly what he’s done.”
