'Black Mirror' Writer to Shy Away From COVID-19 References Out of Fear of Inauthenticity

    WENN/Avalon

Although his hit Netflix show has built a reputation for its worrying depictions of the future, Charlie Brooker admits he is ‘not writing stories about societies falling apart at the moment.’
    May 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Charlie Brooker won’t be using the coronavirus pandemic as inspiration for an episode of his dystopian drama “Black Mirror” – as he’s been heartened by people’s response.
Over five seasons, the British screenwriter’s hit Netflix show has built a reputation for its worrying depictions of the future, but he has been focusing on comedy writing while in lockdown at his home in London.
And Charlie says that when he does get round to writing season six, fans should not expect many references to COVID-19 as he feels people have responded admirably to the public health crisis by caring for their neighbours rather than behaving like they’re in a nightmarish “Black Mirror” plot.
“I’m not writing stories about societies falling apart at the moment, so read into that what you will,” he tells The Guardian. “If you look at classic dystopian stories, it becomes every man for himself immediately.”
“Actually, in this crisis, what’s happened is you’re more likely to be sitting indoors watching ‘Tiger King’ and worrying that your neighbour’s OK and asking to see if they need you to bring in a bag of potatoes or whatever. What’s actually happening at the moment is much more cohesive and heartening.”
In fact, he worries that if he did write a “Black Mirror” plot that drew heavily on the effect COVID-19 has had on the world, viewers would dismiss it as inauthentic.
“At the moment, if you were trying to write a story about a pandemic sweeping the world and everyone immediately turning on each other, plenty of people would look at that and go: ‘Well, that isn’t what’s happened.’ So there’s plenty of room for bleak stories and horror movies – it’s just I think you’ve got to approach it slightly differently,” the 49-year-old explains.
Charlie returns to British TV screens with “Antiviral Wipe”, his satirical take on life in lockdown, which airs on Thursday (May 14) at 9 P.M. on BBC Two.

'RHOA': Eva Marcille Believes Porsha Williams and NeNe Leakes Planned Their Reunion Attacks

    Bravo

The Bravo star also hints in a new interview that she isn’t planning to rebuild a friendship anytime soon, saying, ‘I will always offer respect first, however, I’m no doormat.’
    May 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – In the aftermath of part 1 of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” explosive season 12 reunion, Eva Marcille is weighing on the attacks she got from co-stars NeNe Leakes and Porsha Williams. In a new interview with HollywoodLife.com, Eva shared she thought that nothing about the confrontation was spontaneous.
“I feel like NeNe and Porsha were on one,” she said in the recent Instagram Live TVTalk. “I don’t know what their deal was, but it felt very planned. It’s easier to derail a plan when you’re in person. They were just mad the whole time. They were just mad.”
“Porsha and NeNe came in there guns blazing,” Eva went on to say. “They were nasty!”
“I think that just the ability to be able to read off of each other’s body language. You have to remember, these reunions start at old dark 30. It’s at the crack of dawn and they were on 10 from the beginning until whichever was their end,” she continued saying about having to film a reunion separately due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Eva later hinted that she wasn’t planning to rebuild a friendship anytime soon. “I definitely am down to co-exist,” she shared. “I can definitely do that and I’ll always be respectful where it is warranted. I will always offer respect first, however, I’m no doormat. I’m no one’s lapdog and all the just be nice because I expect someone else to be nice to me, that’s out the window. We shall see!”

During the reunion, which aired on May 10, NeNe and Eva were arguing after the latter confronted NeNe about her comments in which she called for Eva’s firing. The two got into a screaming match with NeNe yelling, “Nobody cares about you being on a carpet 17 years ago,” referring to Eva’s “America’s Next Top Model” win back in 2004.
The two continued to take a jab at each other. Eva claimed that she was “the face of a cosmetic line,” but NeNe said that Eva was “broke” when she came to Atlanta. “All you can talk about is ‘Top Model’, and that was the last time you was on top. You’re a freshman, b***h. Remember that!” added NeNe, before demanding that Eva respected “the elders” and went “back to L.A.” At the end, host Andy Cohen muted NeNe’s video feed.
As for Eva and Porsha, the tension rose up after Porsha went after Eva for saying that her daughter, Pilar Jhena, looked like “Dennis [Porsha’s fiance] with a bow.”

'Survivor: Winners at War' Finale Recap: The Winner Is…

    CBS

Kicking off the episode, 14 players on the ‘Survivor: Edge of Extinction’ compete with each other to get one chance to join Denise Stapley, Tony Vlachos, Sarah Lacina, Michele Fitzgerald and Ben Drieberge in the game.
    May 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Survivor: Winners at War” aired its finale on Wednesday, May 13. At the end of the episode, one of the five remaining contestants, Denise Stapley, Tony Vlachos, Sarah Lacina, Michele Fitzgerald and Ben Driebergen, would be named the winner of the season and taking home coveted $2 million grandprize.
Kicking off the episode, 14 players on the “Edge of Extinction” competed with each other to get one chance to join back the game. They had to do a challenge featuring different stages. Natalie Anderson led as she pocketed three advantages and eventually won following a showdown between her and Wendell Holland.
As soon as she joined the five players, Natalie told them that everyone on the jury wanted to vote Tony to win. The claims got Sarah, Tony’s biggest ally, worried as she wanted to prove that she played a crucial part in the big moves that Tony made.
Later at the immunity challenge, the players were asked to run through an intense obstacle course to collect three bags of puzzle pieces. They later had to complete the puzzle. Michele came out as the winner.
Tony wanted to out Natalie but he hesitated as he thought that she might have an advantage in her pocket, which was true. Natalie, meanwhile, formed an alliance with Michelle who later hinted to Tony that Natalie would be voting for him in hopes he would play the idol. Tony didn’t want to waste his idol so he tried to convince Sarah and Ben to vote for Denise with him.
At tribal council, Natalie played her hidden immunity idol. That led Tony and Ben to play theirs too. Natalie got four votes with Ben getting two, but because they played their hidden idols, the votes didn’t count. They had a re-vote and eventually Denise was eliminated.
Before the next immunity challenge, Natalie obtained an idol. For the new challenge, the players had to swim, climb and balance to obtain a key. Tony came out as the winner.
Tony asked Sarah to find out whether Natalie had a hidden idol. Natalie told Sarah that he did, and Tony heard that. With that, the plan was to vote on Michelle to flush Natalie’s idol out and get Michele out of the game. Ben, however, worried that Natalie would blindside them and play the idol for Michele. He then urged Sarah to write his name down to help her if she gets to the final three.
At tribal council, Natalie played her idol for herself. Meanwhile, Ben was sent to the jury as Sarah did what Ben asked her to.
The final immunity challenge required the players to drop balls down a chute and catch them before they hit the ground while one of their hands was tied behind their back. They would be out if they dropped the ball. Natalie earned the first spot in the final three after she won the challenge. Natalie would choose one player to join her in the Top 3 while the rest had to win a fire-making challenge to earn the last spot.
After much consideration, Natalie picked Michele to join her in the final three which meant Tony and Sarah were going head-to-head in fire-making challenge which Tony eventually won.
It was finally time for the 16 jury members to vote among Tony, Natalie and Michele. Tony got 11 votes while Natalie earned 5 votes. That meant Tony was crowned as the winner!

Tyler Perry to Reopen Studios in July and Begin Production of His New Shows

    WENN

The ‘House of Payne’ creator will fly all of his crew and cast members on his private plane and provide coronavirus testing before they start the production.
    May 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tyler Perry is plotting to get back to work with two new BET series.
Amid the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, the 50-year-old producer has set start dates for the new U.S. shows, “Sistas” and “The Oval”, reported Deadline, with work on the seasons beginning one at a time at his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 8, 2020.
Sistas will go first, according to the report, followed by “The Oval” on July 28. Both will film 22 episodes of their second seasons in two and a half weeks.
The plan involves “testing and sequestering the shows’ cast and crew on the sprawling, 330-acre lot of Tyler Perry Studios,” the publication reported.
According to Deadline, Perry is providing his private plane for all involved and, after they test negative for Covid-19 pre-boarding, they will be flown from Los Angeles and New York to Atlanta. Everyone, including Perry, who is directing all episodes, will remain on the lot for the entire duration of the shoot.
The existing structures on the lot, which once housed a military base, will provide accommodation for everyone working on each of the shows “so there will be no need for portable housing as originally thought,” the report continues.
“Upon arrival, everyone will be tested and quarantined in their rooms for four hours while they wait for the results. The cast and crew will be tested four times over the 2.5 weeks of the shoot, with Carlos Del Rio, professor at Emory Vaccine Center, serving as testing consultant.”
Editors at Deadline also noted the dates are early compared with other U.S. TV studios, which are looking to resume filming between August and October.
