Justin Timberlake to Explore Secret Life of Chuck Barris Series in New Apple Plus Series

    Instagram

The untitled project, which is based on 1984 memoir ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind’, will see the pop superstar-turned-actor taking on the role of ‘The Gong Show’ host.

    Apr 10, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Justin Timberlake is set to portray U.S. game show host and alleged CIA assassin Chuck Barris in a new Apple TV+ series.

The pop superstar-turned-actor will take on the lead role in the as-yet-untitled series, based on Barris’ wild 1984 memoir, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”, in which he claimed to have become a TV personality, hosting “The Gong Show” and creating popular series like “The Dating Game” and “The Newlywed Game”, as an elaborate cover for his real job as an undercover agent in the 1960s and ’70s.

CIA officials denied ever working with Barris, but the autobiography previously inspired the 2002 film of the same name, directed by George Clooney and starring Sam Rockwell. Barris himself said in a 194 interview on NBC’s “Today” show, “No, I was never a CIA hitman.”

“I never did those things. I once applied for the CIA, and while I was going through the process I got a job and went on television,” the TV host who died in 2017 at the age of 87 added. “But I had always wondered what would have happened if I had done both.”

Now Timberlake will be exploring the secret life of Barris for a new hour-long drama series, with the pilot penned by showrunner Jon Worley, according to Deadline. Worley will be sharing the showrunner position with “Ray Donovan” executive producer David Hollander.

The project was recently picked up at auction by Apple bosses, who previously worked with Timberlake on the recent Fisher Stevens drama “Palmer”. It will be co-produced by Miramax and Paramount Television Studios.

CBS Accused of Hypocrisy for 'Exploiting' Sharon Osbourne's Racism Scandal for 'The Talk' Ratings

    CBS/Cliff Lipson

In other news, it has been reported that the talk show is set to end its month-long hiatus on Monday, April 12 as the remaining co-hosts will discuss ‘race and healing’ with diversity, equity, inclusion and justice expert Dr. Donald E. Grant.

    Apr 10, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
CBS faces backlash after it keeps promoting “The Talk” using clip featuring Sharon Osbourne defending Meghan Markle against the British royal family. The said clip was taken two days before Osbourne had an on-air argument with co-host Sheryl Underwood over Piers Morgan, leading to Osbourne getting fired from the show.

According to Daily Mail, some industry insiders accused the network of “hypocrisy” over the incident. Additionally, a source close to the wife of Ozzy Osbourne believed that CBS is “exploiting the controversy for ratings.”

In the episode, which was taken before Piers made controversial comments on Meghan and her bombshell revelations in her interview with Oprah Winfrey, Osbourne was seen slamming the royal family and the queen. She also described that their alleged poor treatment toward the Duchess of Sussex was an “absolute racism at its height.”

      See also…

Despite that, Osbourne defended her pal Piers who accused Meghan of lying and refused to believe her. “I supported my friend with his freedom of speech and his opinions of what he felt about the interview of Meghan and Harry,” she said at the time. “Did I like everything he said, did I agree with what he said? No. Because it’s his opinion, it’s not my opinion.”

Her stance on the whole matter earned her criticism from most poeple including co-host Sheryl. The pair had a tense argument on-air before CBS eventually decided to let Osbourne go.

In other news, it has been reported that “The Talk” is set to return on Monday, April 12 following their month-long hiatus. In the upcoming episode, the remaining co-hosts including Sheryl, Carrie Ann Inaba, Amanda Kloots and Elaine Welteroth are set to have an important discussion regarding “race and healing” with diversity, equity, inclusion and justice expert Dr. Donald E. Grant.

” ‘The Talk’ returns with a discussion about race and healing; expert on diversity, equity, inclusion and justice Dr. Donald E. Grant will offer advice on how to have these difficult conversations; nationally acclaimed trauma therapist and life coach Dr. Anita Phillips will share her expertise on how to heal after a painful event or conversation,” a statement read. Life coach Dr. Anita Phillips is also set to make an appearance in the episode.

Shutting down rumors that she complained to Andy because her two daughters, Delilah Belle Hamlin and Amelia Gray Hamlin, weren’t included on the new project, Lisa wrote on the Thursday, April 8 post, “My kids were asked to do it.” She went on adding, “It wasn’t me Calling Big Daddy.”

Lisa Rinna denied being upset over WWHL kids special.

The 57-year-old Bravo personality continued, “But now I want to know who called.” It remains to be seen why they declined the offer to participate on the special.

Andy announced on April 6 that some of Housewives’ children would join him for his late-night special and ask for fan questions. Among the lineup are Kandi Burruss’ daughter Riley, Ramona Singer’s daughter Avery and Meredith Marks’ son Brooks. The three would join other 11 children of stars from “Real Housewives” franchise including “The Real Housewives of New York City”, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”, “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” as well as “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City”.

Sonja Morgan was named as one of the candidates of the alleged upset Housewives. However, Andy quickly denied the speculations, saying, “I would love to have Quincy [Morgan],” referring to Sonja’s daughter.

Tom Holland to Explore Mental Illness in Anthology Series 'The Crowded Room'

    WENN/Avalon

A co-production between Apple Studios and New Regency, the first season of this TV drama will be based on a biography of Daniel Keyes, who was arrested for three rapes in Ohio in the late 1970s.

    Apr 9, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Actor Tom Holland is set to explore the subject of Multiple Personality Disorder for a new TV drama based on the true crime story of Billy Milligan.

“The Crowded Room” will be an anthology series, with the first season based on Daniel Keyes’ 1981 biography, “The Minds of Billy Milligan”, a man who was arrested for three rapes in Ohio in the late 1970s.

However, he eventually became the first person ever acquitted of a crime after doctors diagnosed him with Multiple Personality Disorder, now known as Dissociative Identity Disorder, claiming he had no knowledge of the assaults as they were committed by two of his alternate personalities.

Instead of being convicted and thrown behind bars in prison, Milligan went on to spend a decade in various mental hospitals.

“The Crowded Room” will be adapted by “Cinderella Man” screenwriter Akiva Goldsman for a 10-episode first season for streaming service bosses at Apple. It is a co-production between Apple Studios and New Regency with Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer serving as executive producers.

Goldsman and Holland will also serve as executive producers on the project, which reunites the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” star with Apple officials following his recent crime drama “Cherry (2021)”, in which he portrayed an army veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, who turns bank robber to pay for his drug addiction.

Holland will next be seen reprising his role as Peter Parker in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, which is set to be released in December 2021. His other project, “Uncharted”, is slated to be released theatrically in 2022.

Millie Bobby Brown Scolds 'Stranger Things' Co-Star David Harbour for Spilling Season 4 Spoilers

    WENN/Instar/Derrick Salters

The Eleven depicter cuts short her onscreen father’s Instagram Live after noticing that the actor is going live from the set still in his character’s costume and bloody makeup.

    Apr 9, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Millie Bobby Brown has just called out David Harbour. Upon learning her “Stranger Things” co-star spilled spoilers of the series’ season 4 on social media, the Eleven depicter jokingly scolded him.

The 17-year-old’s reaction came after her on-screen father hopped on Instagram Live on Wednesday, April 7 while he was still in his character’s costume and bloody makeup. “What’s up, everybody? How’s it going? I haven’t done Instagram Live in a little while. I think I can only be here for like three and a half minutes because I think I have to go to set fairly soon,” he began.

“I’m here, shooting season four of our television show,” the Jim Hopper depicter further divulged. “I don’t think I’m supposed to be showing you these things. Who wants to hear spoilers for season four? Let me just read directly from the script.”

David then burst out laughing when Millie commented on his Live. “Oh s**t! Millie! Oh, no. Millie, don’t tell Netflix, don’t tell Netflix that I’m doing Instagram Live from set,” he said, before lightheartedly threatening her, “I’m just going to read your sections of the script, Millie. I’m just gonna tell everybody what happens to Eleven this season.”

      See also…

After David allowed Millie to join the Live, she yelled, “What are you doing?!” In response to her question, he laughed and replied, “I don’t know, I’m so crazy. I’m so crazy I shouldn’t be doing this.” When she asked whether he was in his costume, he questioned back, “They saw it in the trailer. Didn’t they see it?”

Feeling surprised by the actor’s answer, the teen was quick to scream, “Get off of live and go back to work! You’re getting a phone call [from Netflix] right now.” He then quipped, “I know… I’m getting fired.”

“Stranger Things” season 4 is currently on its production after being shut down in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Gaten Matarazzo recently told Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that the upcoming season might end up being the “scariest” one yet.
