David Duchovny Calls Himself 'Dumb' for Almost Rejecting 'The X-Files' Role

    FOX

The Fox Mulder depicter reveals he nearly missed out the role of a lifetime in the classic sci-fi television series because he didn’t want to pull out of his pal’s project.

    Apr 4, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
David Duchovny almost turned down his career defining role in “The X-Files” because he was shooting a TV movie with a pal.

The actor didn’t want to let his friend down and quit the project, so he told his agents he wasn’t interested in what became the role of a lifetime.

“I had gotten… a couple of scenes in this movie of the week, and it was a director who I was friendly with, and I was going to have to… pull out of that part to do The X-Files pilot,” David told Rob Lowe on his “Literally!” podcast. “I said to my agents, ‘I don’t want to do that. You know, she’s a friend, and I don’t want to pull out.’ (I said), ‘X-Files, this is about extra-terrestrials. How long can it go? It’s a good pilot but you’re either going to see the aliens or (not).’ ”

      See also…

“I wasn’t interested in conspiracy theories, and I was perfectly willing to just say, ‘I’m going to have to pass on that pilot, because I said I’d do this other project.’ ”

Duchovny is glad his agent talked him into taking the role of Fox Mulder, “It’s scary to think back on; if you didn’t open this door, or you took that left instead of that right. It’s, like, none of it had to happen. You talk about actors being dumb… well, that was me.”

The show ended in 2002. It was revived in 2016 and returned to TV again in 2018. It was also adapted for the big screen in 1998 and a stand-alone film in 2008.

'Charmed' Cast React After Ex-Producer Says It Stopped Becoming 'Girl Power Show' Halfway Through

    The WB

Alyssa Milano and co-star Holly Marie Combs defend their classic television show after a former producer says she quit the series due to oversexualization.

    Apr 4, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs are defending their beloved TV series “Charmed” after a former producer revealed she quit the show when it started catering to lusty men.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Krista Vernoff claims she exited the series when it started becoming “bad for the world”, insisting it stopped becoming “a girl power show” when men started tuning in to ogle the stars.

“About halfway through there was an episode where Alyssa Milano comes out in mermaid pasties and there was a huge spike in male viewership, and then every episode after, the question would come from the network, ‘How are we getting the girls naked this week?’ ” Krista told the publication.

Castmates Alyssa and Holly reacted to her comments on social media, insisting Charmed was always a “girl power show.”

      See also…

“This absolutely broke my heart,” Milano wrote on Twitter. “I hope we didn’t make something that was ‘bad for the world’ for eight years.”

“I think we gave permission to a generation of women to be themselves and to be strong and own their sexuality. I’m so proud of what this show meant to so many.”

Co-star Combs replied to Alyssa’s tweet, adding, “I can attest 1000 per cent Charmed was not bad for the world. The reasons and people are too long to list. Maybe it was bad for Krista’s world at the time. End story…”

“And the fact that we can still stand up for ourselves and the show and the people who loved it proves this. I never cared what producer or network exec wanted us more naked for their $ (sic). And still don’t. We knew how to rally against it and found our own power. And still do.”

Jeremy Irons Screamed at Bob Odenkirk Over Bad 'SNL' Monologue

    WENN

The ‘Dead Ringers’ actor was so mad that he yelled at the ‘Breaking Bad’ star after finding the ‘Saturday Night Live’ monologue the latter wrote for him was not really great.

    Apr 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Bob Odenkirk isn’t looking forward to his next encounter with Jeremy Irons because, the last time the two actors met, the Brit yelled at the “Breaking Bad” star.

Odenkirk was a writer on U.S. sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” before he hit the big time and he was charged with writing a monologue for guest host Irons.

Bob won an Emmy for being part of the writing team, but Irons wasn’t a fan.

“Rob Schneider and I had written this monologue, and it wasn’t great,” Odenkirk told “The Howard Stern Show”. “He was right. He was really mad. He was so mad.”

“(He said), ‘I can sing. I can dance. I can juggle. I am a Shakespearean-trained actor. And you have me doing this?’ ”

Bob secretly taped the Oscar winner’s outburst and played it at parties.

      See also…

“I had a little recorder, and I taped it because I loved it so much,” Bob said. “And he was right, God bless him. It wasn’t a great monologue, but he’s a trouper.”

“I played it for many people. I don’t know where it is now. It’s at the bottom of a bin somewhere. It exists.”

While his “SNL” stint earned him prestigious award, Bob Odenkirk had some regrets.

In a previous interview, he admitted he was “such a prick back then.”

“I was so opinionated. I was a very opinionated comedy writer,” he said. “I wish I was a sweeter fellow because I had a great opportunity there.”

“I learned a lot about comedy writing and I made some great friends for life at that show, but I still wish I’d just handled it better, but don’t you always wish that about your young self?”

Besides writing for the “SNL”, the “Better Call Saul” star penned for “The Ben Stiller Show” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”.

Nick Jonas Shades Disney Channel for Canceling 'Jonas' After 2 Seasons

    WENN/Nicky Nelson

Starring Nick and his brothers Kevin and Joe, ‘Jonas’ aired between 2009 and 2010 with the first season following the brothers as they navigated high school, romance and their many fans.

    Apr 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Nick Jonas thinks that his show “Jonas” deserves to air for more than 2 seasons, though Disney Channel seems to disagree. In a new TikTok video that he shared on Friday, April 2, the Jonas Brothers member threw a subtle shade at the channel for its decision to cancel the show after its sophomore season.

“Oh, I love this one. Tell me you were on Disney Channel, without telling me you were on Disney Channel,” he said in the clip. “See that’s the thing. Our show got cancelled after just two seasons, and we didn’t have any famous quotes.”

Starring Nick and his brothers Kevin Jonas and Joe Jonas, “Jonas” aired between 2009 and 2010. The first season followed the brothers as they navigated high school, romance and their many fans. Meanwhile, the second season, which was titled “Jonas L.A.”, was about the band going to Los Angeles for new adventures.

While other shows including “Hannah Montana” ran longer, Disney pulled the plug on “Jonas” only after 2 seasons. “Hannah Montana”, which starred Miley Cyrus, aired for four seasons and was even adapted into a feature movie.

However, Nick opened up in Jonas Brothers’ Amazon Prime documentary that doing the second season of “Jonas” was a huge mistake. “It was a big regret,” Nick said in the 2019 documentary. “We shouldn’t have done that. It really stunted our growth. I feel like it was just a bad move. It was just not the time. Literally, we couldn’t evolve because of it.”

Joe echoed the sentiment. “It just didn’t feel like us anymore. It felt young and we were becoming adults,” he shared. Kevin, meanwhile, simply admitted that “the show was not good.”

'Friends' Stars Not Playing TV Characters in Upcoming Reunion Special

    NBC

David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc are expected to appear as themselves for the much-anticipated reunion.

    Apr 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
The “Friends” cast won’t appear in character during their highly-anticipated reunion.

David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc are reuniting for the HBO Max special in Los Angeles this month (Apr21), with David hinting during an appearance on Britain’s “The Graham Norton Show” that they are working on something exciting for fans.

“I’m going to L.A. to shoot the Friends reunion,” he said. “I will get to see everyone for the first time in years.”

And asked if he will be in character as Ross Gellar or appear as himself in the reunion, he said, “I’ll be David. Nothing is scripted and we are not in character. We are all ourselves, although there is one section of it that I don’t want to give away, but we all read something.”

He also added jokingly, “I should have (studied) up on old episodes, but I just haven’t been able to bring myself to catch up on the 236 shows. I guess I need to watch a lot over the next five days!”

      See also…

Meanwhile, Jennifer previously insisted the reunion special will be “even more exciting” after it was delayed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jennifer admitted that whilst she feels a “glass half-full” about filming being pushed back due to the ongoing threat of the deadly virus, having more time to work on the show will enable it to be “more fun.”

Speaking to Deadline, she said, “Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to move it again. It was, ‘How do we do this with live audiences?’ This is not a safe time. Period. That’s the bottom line. It’s not a safe time to do it.”

“But you know what? This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been. So I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed. Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life guys.”

“The Graham Norton Show” airs on Friday (02Apr21) at 10.45 pm BST on BBC One.

Rege-Jean Page Won't Return for 'Bridgerton' Season 2

    Netflix

The actor who plays the Duke of Hastings is announced to leave the Netflix steamy period drama series following his ‘triumphant’ performance in the first season.

    Apr 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Break-out “Bridgerton” star Rege-Jean Page will not return as Simon, Duke of Hastings for the second season of the hit Netflix period drama.

The Brit became an overnight sensation when Bridgerton debuted on Christmas Day (25Dec20), but he won’t be back.

The news was announced in a post on Friday (02Apr21), written by the series’ fictional gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.

“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Rege-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” Lady Whistledown wrote.

“We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. (Phoebe Dyvenor’s character) Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”

      See also…

The first season ended with Daphne happily married to the Duke of Hastings.

The series, narrated by Dame Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown, is inspired by the book franchise of the same name by Julia Quinn, with season two based on the 2000 novel, “The Viscount Who Loved Me”.

Quinn’s fictional series features eight books, with each story revolving around the love life of each Bridgerton sibling.

Before Rege-Jean Page was announced to leave the show, creator Chris Van Dusen said he would love to bring the actor back for season two in some capacity.

“I hope so. They are now, of course, the Duke and Duchess of Hastings, but in my mind they will always be Bridgertons and I think they will always be part of the show.”

Mark-Paul Gosselaar Embarrassed by Native American Episode of 'Saved by the Bell'

    WENN

The Zack Morris depicter claims he ‘cringed’ when re-watching himself poke fun at Native American heritage in the controversial episode of his classic TV show.

    Apr 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Mark-Paul Gosselaar “cringed” when he re-watched a controversial “Saved by the Bell” episode.

In “Running Zack” – which first aired in 1990 – the actor’s character Zack Morris took an assignment about ancestry as a joke and mocked his Native American heritage, going from wearing wear paint to a full stereotypical outfit including a headdress.

Speaking on his “Zack to the Future” podcast, he said, “I cringed seeing myself portraying a white dude being Zack Morris, who is like the all-American, blond-haired white dude in an Indian Native American headdress.”

Mark-Paul insisted he doesn’t recall filming the controversial scene, which many people consider to be racially insensitive.

“This is one of those that I don’t, I don’t like remember putting on the headdress,” he added. “I don’t remember putting face paint on. I don’t remember standing in that awkward way that I was standing where my arms are folded and like a very stereotypical way.”

      See also…

However, he is glad that the infamous episode wouldn’t be allowed “in current times” and he suggested there are more “protocols in place.”

“But, again, there are protocols in place to and filters that, you know, like a director, standards and practices, people that I think… we’re much more sensitive now, for good reason, that those things would not happen today,” he explained. “This episode would never get made in current times, and rightly so.”

Mark-Paul previously described the experience of re-watching the sitcom for his podcast as “a little bit tortuous.”

“I feel like it’s a little bit torturous every week for me to go through this process because I am watching my work – and it doesn’t matter that it’s 30 years old, it’s still something that I feel like I can improve,” he said.

Meanwhile, the actor reprised his role of Zack for the recent “Saved by the Bell” reboot series, which has since been renewed for a second season after a successful first run.
