'AGT': Nick Cannon Supports Gabrielle Union Amid Terry Crews Debacle

    WENN/FayesVision

Current host Terry Crews previously insisted that he would never stand up for Gabrielle, who was reportedly fired because she raised concerns about racism and toxic culture on the show.
    Jan 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Nick Cannon is weighing on the controversy surrounding Gabrielle Union’s firing from “America’s Got Talent”. In a new interview with VLADTV, Nick, who previously served as a host on the NBC show, shows that he was sticking by Gabrielle’s side.
“It was some eye-opening events that occurred that really shed light on some cultural insensitivities — ultimately, when it comes to women, when it comes to how the show is produced,” Nick said on January 28.
He continued, “I believe, as a producer — I was over at ‘AGT’ for a damn near decade — you kinda see these things as a giant machine, but if you really take the time to step back, you see some things that are truly not fair… It’’s an institutional issue.”
Nick later addressed Gabrielle and current host Terry Crews’ debacle after the latter insisted that he would never stand up for Gabrielle, who was reportedly fired because she raised concerns about racism and toxic culture on the show, because he never got such experience while working on “America’s Got Talent”. “I love Terry Crews, but it gets to that place… again it’s an institutional thing, so I’m not blaming him,” Nick said of the situation.
“We get excited about the occupation, we get excited to work for the man and we gon’ defend the man cause he gave me a job,” Nick went on adding. “It don’t matter what you saw because I stood firmly by him when my former agent accosted him… Especially when it comes to our queens, when it comes to Gabby, I don’t care. Whatever she said, if it happened, I’m rocking with you.”
    [embedded content]
Terry previously said on “3rd Hour of Today”, “First of all I can’t speak for sexism because I’m not a woman, but I can speak on behalf on any racism comments,” he said. “That was never my experience on ‘America’s Got Talent’, in fact, it was the most diverse place I have ever been in my 20 years of entertainment. The Top 10 acts were asian, women, older, younger, black, white, it was everything in the gamut.”
He continued, “When you look at what the allegations were about, it was given by an unnamed source. My thing is – it’s funny because I believe you should listen to women, you should always believe women so I asked my wife what I should do. She was like, ‘first of all, if it’s coming from an unnamed source – because Gabrielle Union has not made any statement to this day about any of these allegations publicly – …if she hasn’t made a statement, why would you?’ ”
In response, Gabrielle fired back on Twitter, saying that there was an investigation going on regarding the issues and she waited for it to be completed before speaking out. She wrote, “Truth telling, wanting change & having MULTIPLE witnesses who bravely came forward to let EVERYONE know I didn’t lie or exaggerate, really exposes those who enthusiastically will throw you under the bus, forgetting quickly who stepped up 4 THEIR truth.”
“Can someone please ask abt what happens to all that diversity folks are talking about BEHIND THE SCENES. Like, legit… where the hell is all that diversity in the production though homie? In the decision making ranks who control the fate of the diversity in front of the camera?” the wife of Dwyane Wade added.

David Schwimmer Clarifies Black 'Friends' Comments: 'I Meant No Disrespect' to 'Living Single'

    WENN/FayesVision

The Ross Geller depicter was previously dragged after seemingly forgetting the existence of ‘Living Single’ which inspired ‘Friends’ by suggesting a reboot of ‘Friends’ with an all-black cast.
    Jan 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – David Schwimmer has broken his silence after being slammed online over his recent remarks over wanting to have an ‘all-black’ and ‘all-asian’ version of “Friends”, seemingly forgetting the existence of “Living Single” which inspired “Friends”. One of the criticism came directly from “Living Single” alum Erika Alexander. And now, David attempts to explain himself to Erika in a statement.
“Hi Erika. As you know, I was asked recently in an interview for ‘The Guardian’ how I felt (for the thousandth time) about a reboot of ‘Friends’ immediately following a conversation about diversity on the show, and so offered up other possibilities for a reimagining of the show today,” David, who played Ross Geller in Friends, wrote in a reply to Erika’s tweet on Wednesday, January 29. “I didn’t mean to imply ‘Living Single’ hadn’t existed or indeed hadn’t come before ‘Friends’, which I knew it had.”
“Please remember in an interview quotes are often pieced together and taken out of context, and then these quotes are repurposed in other articles by other people who are trying to be provocative,” continued, adding that he was “a fan of ‘Living Single’, and was not implying ‘Friends’ was the first of its kind.”
David admitted that he wasn’t aware of the speculations that Warner Brothers and NBC, “encouraged by the success of Living Single, gave the Friends pilot a green light.” He said, “I honestly don’t know, but seems likely! If that’s the case, we are all indebted to Living Single for paving the way.”
David went on to say, “In any event, if my quote was taken out of context, it’s hardly in my control. I assure you I meant no disrespect.”
The statement arrives after Erika responded to David’s interview with The Guardian. “Hey @DavidSchwimmer @FriendsTV – r u seriously telling me you’ve never heard of #LivingSingle? We invented the template! Yr welcome bro. ;),” she wrote on Twitter.
David previously suggested during the interview a reboot of “Friends” with an “all-black” or an “all-asian” casts. “But I was well aware of the lack of diversity and I campaigned for years to have Ross date women of color. One of the first girlfriends I had on the show was an Asian American woman, and later I dated African American women. That was a very conscious push on my part,” he told the site.

David Schwimmer Roasted Over Comments of 'All-Black' Version of 'Friends': Heard of 'Living Single'?

    WENN/Warner Bros. Television/Instar

The Ross Geller depictor’s interview sparks conversations on social media and it doesn’t take long before ‘Living Single’ alum Erika Alexander weighs in on the matter in one of her tweets.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – David Schwimmer faces heat over his recent comments about proposing an all-black version of his popular sitcom “Friends”. In a new interview with The Guardian, the actor, who portrayed Ross Geller on the show, shared that he wished for diversity by creating an all-black or all-asian version of “Friends”, but he was met with criticism because he missed one thing.
“I feel that a lot of the problem today in so many areas is that so little is taken in context. You have to look at it from the point of view of what the show was trying to do at the time,” the 53-year-old actor explained. “I’m the first person to say that maybe something was inappropriate or insensitive, but I feel like my barometer was pretty good at that time. I was already really attuned to social issues and issues of equality.”
“Maybe there should be an all-black Friends or an all-Asian Friends,” he said during the interview when asked about the criticism about the show’s all-white cast. “But I was well aware of the lack of diversity and I campaigned for years to have Ross date women of color. One of the first girlfriends I had on the show was an Asian American woman, and later I dated African American women. That was a very conscious push on my part.”
David might have meant well with the suggestion, but his remarks only caused people to roast him because he forgot the existence of “Living Single”. The show, which many dubbed as the “all-black ‘Friends’ “, aired in 1993, a year before the NBC sitcom premiered.
His interview sparked conversations on Twitter and “Living Single” alum Erika Alexander weighed in on the matter. She wrote on Twitter, “Hey @DavidSchwimmer @FriendsTV – r u seriously telling me you’ve never heard of #LivingSingle? We invented the template! Yr welcome bro. 😉 David Schwimmer 2 The Guardian: ‘Maybe there should be an all-black Friends or an all-Asian Friends’.”
During her appearance on “The Breakfast Club”, she previously revealed that the name for “Friends” was taken from the development stage of the show. “It was. The original name for ‘Living Single’ was ‘My Girls; but it didn’t test well so they came up with some other names. ‘Living Single’ and ‘Friends’ were some of the names presented. Obviously, they chose one and the other went to another show, also produced by Warner Bros.”
Fans also quickly chimed in as one said, “David Schwimmer clearly doesn’t know that the ‘all-black’ reboot of Friends that he wants was already done and was called Living Single…which btw inspired Friends.” Another one added, “Apparently, David Schwimmer has no idea he was on a white reboot of ‘Living Single’.”

Tyra Banks Applauses Gabrielle Union for Being 'Vulnerable' Amid 'AGT' Controversy

    WENN/FayesVision

The ‘America’s Next Top Model’ host also praises Gabrielle’s husband Dwyane Wade for supporting her following her controversial firing from the NBC competition show.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tyra Banks has spoken out about the controversial firing of Gabrielle Union from “America’s Got Talent”, a decision which was reportedly made after Gabrielle voiced her concerns about the racism on the show. The former host of the NBC competition show weighed in on the matter, praising Gabrielle for having the courage to come forward with that.
Considering that she only hosted for two seasons, the “America’s Next Top Model” host admitted she wasn’t “really immersed in the culture” of the show to comment on specifics related to Union’s exit. “I almost kind of like dipped my toe in and left, so I’m not really immersed in the culture. Like people ask me about Victoria’s Secret, I can wax poetic about that — was there for 10 years,” she explained in an interview with Yahoo.
The model then applauded the wife of Dwyane Wade for showing her vulnerable side. “What I love about what [Gabrielle] did is she was very vulnerable. I wasnt super close to it, but I saw some of her tweets,” Tyra, who only hosted the show for two season, added. “I thought it was maybe beautiful… how she wasn’t speaking in anger, she’s speaking in pain like, ‘I’m trying to get through this… and I’m crying.’ ”
She continued, “I just thought that was really beautiful. Because a lot of the times in entertainment, you have to put up this front — I’m strong, and I’m this and I was wronged. She was so vulnerable… And I also thought that it was beautiful that her husband really supported her as well.”
Gabrielle was let go from “America’s Got Talent” in December 2019. Rumor has it, it was resulted from her rising concern about the “toxic” work environment, Gabrielle wrote on Twitter, “So many tears, so much gratitude. Just when you feel lost, adrift, alone … you got me up off the ground. Humbled and thankful, forever.”
The actress later talked about workplace inequalities during a female empowerment and inclusivity panel back in mid December. “Don’t be the happy negro that does the bidding of the status quo because you’re afraid. Don’t allow them to call you angry when someone else is called passionate. It’s terrifying. There’s a solid chance you’ll lose your job … I speak from experience,” she shared.

Ellen and Late Night Show Hosts Get Emotional Paying Tribute to Kobe Bryant

    NBC

The likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, and Conan O’Brien are overwhelmed with emotions as the talk show hosts remember the recently-deceased NBA hero.
    Jan 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ellen DeGeneres broke down in tears as she paid tribute to her friend Kobe Bryant in an emotional speech filmed for her talk show.
The TV presenter shoots her programme in advance, so videoed her tribute on Monday, January 27, 2020 to air on Tuesday, following the basketball player’s tragic death in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
Struggling to control her emotions as she remembered the sportsman, Ellen said, “Today is Monday, and yesterday was Sunday. It happened to be my birthday and the Grammy Awards. I was nominated, I didn’t win. Not the point. Yesterday was supposed to be a celebratory day, and then we got tragic news about Kobe Bryant, and everything changed in a second. And that’s what I want to talk about.”
“Life is short, and it’s fragile, and we don’t know how many birthdays we have. So just – you don’t have to have a birthday to celebrate, just celebrate life. And if you haven’t told someone you love them, do it now. Do it. Tell people you love them. Call your friends. Text your friends. Hug them. Kiss them. Be nice to people at the DMV. They’re people. Be nice to them.”
    [embedded content]
Numerous late night talk show hosts also paid tribute to Kobe and his daughter Gianna, who died alongside him in the crash. Opting not to have a live audience for his show in honour of the sporting legend, Jimmy Kimmel instead directly addressed viewers, saying, “Kobe was the last person you could ever imagine something like this happening to. He was so strong and so handsome and smart and energetic. He was a hero.”
    [embedded content]
“And when I say that I don’t mean a hero like real heroes like firefighters or doctors and nurses who actually save lives… but Kobe was a hero in the way Superman was a hero. He was so big it was almost like he was a fictional character. He was a real-life superhero with a costume and everything walking among us.”
    [embedded content]
Finding it hard to hold back tears, Kimmel concluded, “This was a terrible loss for those families, for the Lakers, for Kobe’s teammates, for his fans. There’s no silver lining here. It’s all bad, it’s all sad. He was a bright light, and that’s how I want to remember him.”
    [embedded content]
Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien also remembered Kobe in heartfelt tributes on their shows.
