Ali Larter 'Heartbroken' by 'Heroes' Co-Star Leonard Roberts' Racism Accusations

    NBC

In a statement released after her former on-screen husband blamed her for his exit from the NBC series, the actress apologizes ‘for any role I may have played in his painful experience’ during his time on the show.

    Dec 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ali Larter has spoken up after Leonard Roberts claimed she was responsible for his exit from “Heroes”. In an essay published by Variety on Wednesday, December 16, the actor claimed that he was written off the show as a result of a tension with the actress, whom he often shared screen with as his onscreen wife.
Responding to Roberts’ claims, Larter released a statement later on Wednesday to extend her apology. “I am deeply saddened to hear about Leonard Roberts’ experience on Heroes and I am heartbroken reading his perception of our relationship, which absolutely doesn’t match my memory nor experience on the show,” she said in the statement.
While she denied his allegations, she added, “I respect Leonard as an artist and I applaud him or anyone using their voice and platform. I am truly sorry for any role I may have played in his painful experience during that time and I wish him and his family the very best.”
Roberts previously wrote in the essay that he was told not to “think of [his firing] as a situation where the Black man loses and the white woman wins.” He, however, could not help thinking that race played a part in his firing after Larter often complained about her scenes with him.

He recalled one instance when Larter refused to expose her shoulders, at the request of the episode’s director, in a bedroom scene with him. Larter then requested a meeting with the show’s creators on set and had “an intense and loud conversation in which she expressed she had never been so disrespected – as an actress, a woman or a human being,” he said.
Roberts asked another star, Adrian Pasdar, if Larter had reacted similarly during their intimate scene to which he recalled her “openness to collaboration.” The D. L. Hawkins depicter concluded, “I couldn’t help wondering whether race was a factor.”
Roberts noticed that his presence on the show subsequently got smaller and smaller, and other non-white characters were killed off midway through the first season. He also recounted the moment Larter appeared to be blame him for low sales of magazine which cover featured the two of them. ” ‘I’m hearing our cover is selling the least of all of them,’ she told me. It was the first and only thing she said to me that night and I believed the subtext was clear: I was tarnishing her brand,” he said.
After all those treatments, Roberts got a call from series creator Tim Kring who informed him about his exit. According to him, “in a short voicemail message, he said that due to ‘the Ali Larter situation,’ when the show returned for season 2, audiences would learn that D.L. had died, and that I was free to call him if I wanted to talk.”
NBC and Kring have not responded to Roberts’ claims, but executive producer Dennis Hammer said in a statement to Variety, “14 years is a long time ago, but I remember clearly that Leonard was a great guy and a total pro.”

Emma Corrin Draw Parallels Between 'The Crown' to 'Succession' Over Fiction Disclaimer Issue

    Netflix/HBO

The actress portraying Princess Diana in season four of the hit series has joined co-star Josh O’Connor in defending Netflix’s decision not to make it clear that the show is a work of fiction.

    Dec 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – Emma Corrin does not find it necessary for Netflix to label “The Crown” as a work of fiction. Although a number of prominent figures in the U.K. have called for the addition of a fiction disclaimer to the hit series, the actress playing Princess Diana in season four defended the streaming giant’s adverse decision by likening it to “Succession”.
The 25-year-old actress weighed in on the controversy when talking to Marc Malkin from her London apartment for an upcoming episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket”. During which, she stressed, “It is very clearly a dramatized version of events. This is fictitious in the same way people don’t mistake ‘Succession’ for what actually happened with the Murdochs.”
While she backed Netflix’s choice against the adding of the fiction disclaimer, the “Misbehaviour” actress did acknowledge the intention behind the request in the first place. “I also understand [the request] comes from a place of sensitivity and protectiveness of the royal family and Diana,” she pointed out.

The call for disclaimers came in late November when British culture minister Oliver Dowden urged Netflix to make it clear that “The Crown” is a work of fiction. “It’s a beautifully produced work of fiction, so as with other TV productions, Netflix should be very clear at the beginning it is just that,” he told The Mail on Sunday. “Without this, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.”
Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, also offered similar thought on the TV series. “I think it would help ‘The Crown’ an enormous amount if, at the beginning of each episode, it stated that, ‘This isn’t true but it is based around some real events,’ ” he voiced his concerns to ITV. “I worry people do think that this is gospel and that’s unfair.”
Netflix, however, stood its ground. “We have always presented ‘The Crown’ as a drama — and we have every confidence our members understand it’s a work of fiction that’s broadly based on historical events,” it responded to the call through a statement. “As a result we have no plans — and see no need — to add a disclaimer.”
Also defending the streaming giant’s decision was Emma’s co-star Josh O’Connor. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times podcast “The Envelope”, the Prince Charles depicter stated, “We were slightly let down by our culture secretary, whose job it is to encourage culture. In my opinion, it’s pretty outrageous that he came out and said what he said. Particularly, in this time when he knows that the arts are struggling and they’re on their knees, I think it’s a bit of a low blow.”

'The Masked Singer' Finale Recap: Season 4 Winner Is Formidable Singer

    FOX

The December 16 episode of the FOX singing competition series also sees the judges making correct guesses of all three finalists, the Crocodile, Mushroom and Sun.

    Dec 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – “The Masked Singer” left no more mysteries unanswered in its season 4 finale. The show unmasked all three finalists, the Crocodile, Mushroom and Sun, in the Wednesday, December 16 episode, which also saw one of them being crowned the winner of the season.
First off, the three of them still had one last performance each to deliver that night. Crocodile wowed with a dramatic rendition of Journey’s “Open Arms”. He gifted his clue, an angel figurine, to Jenny McCarthy. The panelist joked it was fitting for her as it was “just as plastic.”

Mushroom livened up the stage with an energetic performance of Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish”, which he said was his daughter’s favorite song. His onstage clue was a mushroom cookie dough ice cream, which he gave to Nicole Scherzinger.

Sun came up last to belt out Brandi Carlile’s “The Story”, showcasing her powerful vocals. Her gift and clue was a mistletoe which she handed to Robin Thicke. Ken Jeong joked as Robin received the gift, which symbolizes romanticism on the holiday season, “You can kiss yourself for hours.”

Without further ado, host Nick Cannon then announced the third place winner based on the votes by the panelists, studio audience and fans at home, which went to Crocodile. Ken’s first impression guess was Bradley Cooper, but he changed his mind to Nick Lachey, which was Nicole’s first prediction. Nicole than changed her guess to Jordan Knight, which was Robin’s initial pick. Robin himself ultimately went with Backstreet Boys’ Howie Dorough, while Jenny stuck with her initial guess, Howie’s bandmate Nick Carter. Jenny got it right because Croc was revealed to be boybander Nick.
Moving on, Cannon crowned the season 4 winner. Sun won the Golden Mask Trophy, meaning Mushroon was unmasked next. Jenny, who wrote Maxwell as her first guess, changed to Ne-Yo. Ken went from Justin Timberlake to Pharrell Williams, while Nicole, who initially guessed Donald Glover, changed to Aloe Blacc. Robin agreed with Nicole and discarded his first guess, Billy Porter. Nicole and Robin’s gut was right, because Mushroom was unveiled as the “I Need a Dollar” singer.
Next, the judges made their final guesses for the person behind Sun. Jenny initially wrote down Demi Lovato as Sun, before she came up with LeAnn Rimes. Nicole agreed with Jenny, after initially thinking it was Katharine McPhee. Robin guessed Katharine after initially writing down Natasha Bedingfield, while Ken replaced his first guess Gwyneth Paltrow with Mandy Moore. Jenny and Nicole were once again right as Sun and this season’s winner was unmasked as “How Do I Live” hitmaker LeAnn.
“This has been an overwhelming experience,” the 38-year-old singer/actress said of her time on the show. “I didn’t expect this to be this much work, I have to say. I was thinking, ‘I’ll come on, this will be easy, this will be fun.’ And it was a blast!”

'The Bachelorette' Recap: Tayshia Adams Enjoys Hometown Dates With Final Four Suitors

    ABC

However, there is a slight change for the Hometown Dates this season as instead of going to the men’s hometowns, they head to La Quinta with the men’s families being brought there due to COVID-19 pandemic.

    Dec 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – In a new episode of “The Bachelorette”, Tayshia Adams was scheduled to visit her final four suitors’ families for Hometown Dates. However, there was a slight change due to COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of going to the men’s hometowns, they headed to La Quinta.
“I want you to put together a date that will take Tayshia to your hometown… a little window at what life would be like with you,” host Chris Harrison explained. Additionally, it was revealed that the men’s family members were brought their after being quarantined.
Later, Tayshia spent time with Brendan, who got his brother Daniel, sister-in-law and niece Aliyah there with him. Tayshia bonded easily with Aliyah as they played carnival games, much to Brendan’s liking. Tayshia shared that she was nervous about the whole thing, though she didn’t really have to. Daniel seemed to be supportive of their relationship.
Following it up was a meeting with Zac’s family. Zac’s brother asked Tayshia to talk in private. He told her that Zac hadn’t smiled in a long time and that he’s happy to see him smiling now. Zac’s mother echoed the sentiment, adding that Tayshia broke the barrier. She wished that things would work out between Tayshia and Zac.

Tayshia then enjoyed a date with Ivan as they were cooking together before meeting his parents. When the time came, Ivan’s mom talked privately with Tayshia. His mom admitted that she was skeptical about their relationship because it was just too fast, but she knew what really mattered was Ivan’s happiness.
As for Ivan’s dad, he asked Tayshia what she learned about her first marriage. She blamed her divorce on getting married at a young age, adding that her ex was the wrong person for her. She was convinced that Ivan could be the one for her, and Ivan’s dad agreed. Ivan’s brother Gabriel surprisingly appeared and he told the pair that he’s happy for them.
The last hometown date was between Tayshia and Ben, who took her to take a walk down the boardwalk. They then met Antonia, a close family friend of Ben, and his sister Madeline because her parents couldn’t make it due to COVID-19. “Ben has been someone I have had my eye on, but him being so closed off has made me hesitant,” Tayshia told Madeline, who responded, “I will say — he’s not hiding anything. It’s just, the wall hasn’t broken down yet. He really is very sensitive.”
Meanwhile, Ben finally realized that he’s in love with Tayshia. He told everyone about this but Tayshia, and that seemed to be a mistake. During the rose ceremony, Tayshia handed out the roses to Ivan, Zac and Brendan, meaning that Ben was eliminated. “The last two weeks showed me a lot about the things I was feeling for you. I’ve been wrong before,” he said. “I’m heartbroken, but I’ll be alright.”
