    NBC

Bosses at the giant streaming services like HBO Max, Netflix, and Peacock have reportedly vying for the rights to air the new and updated ‘Bel-Air’ drama series.
    Aug 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – Will Smith is revamping his hit sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” as a TV drama series.
Superfan Morgan Cooper caught Smith’s eye early last year (19) when he posted a fake trailer for the show, reimagined as a drama, on YouTube.
The four-minute clip, which Cooper created and directed, went viral and now Smith has recruited him to turn the dream scenario into a full series.
Cooper will work with “The Wire” ‘s Chris Collins to write the script, which he will also direct and executive produce. Collins will serve as showrunner, while original producers Smith, legendary musician Quincy Jones, and Jennifer Lopez’s longtime manager Benny Medina will return, alongside “Fresh Prince” creators Andy and Susan Borowitz.
Simply titled “Bel-Air”, the serialised one-hour drama will be set in modern-day America and delve into the emotions and complications behind lead character Will’s journey from the streets of West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to his uncle’s gated estate in Bel-Air, Los Angeles.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project has been in the works for over a year, and is currently attracting big bids from bosses at streaming services including HBO Max, Netflix, and Peacock, the new platform from officials at the original show’s broadcaster NBC.
Smith shot to fame after the huge success of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, which ran for six seasons until 1996 and co-starred the late James Avery, Alfonso Ribeiro, and Tatyana Ali.
The “Independence Day” actor recently reunited with his old castmembers for the season finale of his Snapchat isolation series “Will From Home”, which debuted in April (20).

  • 'Black-ish' Debuts Political Episode on Hulu After It's Blocked by ABC

    ABC

The episode called ‘Please, Baby, Please’ is now available on Hulu, several years after the political outing filmed in 2017 was banned by ABC due to ‘creative differences.’
    Aug 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – A political episode of “Black-ish” that was shelved by ABC executives over “creative differences” is now available to view on Hulu.
The episode, “Please, Baby, Please”, had been set to air in February 2018, but never ultimately made it to screens. However, after years of anticipation series creator Kenya Barris announced on Monday (10Aug20) the lost instalment is now available to view.
“In November 2017, we made an episode of black-ish entitled Please, Baby, Please,” Barris said in a statement posted to Instagram, referring to the episode which focuses on multiple social and political issues.
“We were one year post-election and coming to the end of a year that left us, like many Americans, grappling with the state of our country and anxious about its future.”
He added that the episode came out of the tumultuous state of the country and the world, at the time.
“Those feelings poured onto the page, becoming 22 minutes of television that I was, and still am, incredibly proud of. Please, Baby, Please didn’t make it to air that season… And, while much has been speculated about its contents, the episode has never been seen publicly… until now.”
Barris also said he requested the episode to be aired after the re-airing of its Juneteenth and Hope episodes.
“I cannot wait for everyone to finally see the episode for themselves and, as was the case nearly three years ago, we hope it inspires some much-needed conversation,” he added. “Not only about what we were grappling with then or how it led to where we are now, but conversations about where we want our country to go moving forward and, most importantly, how we get there together.”
“Black-ish”, starring Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson, started airing on ABC in 2014, and was renewed for a seventh season in May.

  • Howard Stern Offers Ellen DeGeneres Strong Advice Amid Show's Backlash

    WENN

In the Monday, August 10 episode of his SiriusXM show, the longtime radio personality, who has been friends with Ellen for years, revealed what would he do if he were in Ellen’s shoes.
    Aug 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Howard Stern is weighing in on the toxic culture allegations against both Ellen DeGeneres and her show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”. In the Monday, August 10 episode of his SiriusXM show, the longtime radio personality revealed what would he do if he were in Ellen’s shoes.
“You know what I’d do if I was Ellen? I would change my whole image. I’d go on the air and be a son of a b***h,” the 65-year-old said. “People would come on and (I would) go, ‘F**k you’ [and] just be a p***k.”
Howard, who has been friends with Ellen for years, went on saying, “So you think I’m a p***k? I’m going to show you exactly. … I’m known on the air as a p***k, but off the air, I’m known as a great guy, you know, for the most part.”
Howard made the comments after new allegations against Ellen surfaced online. Ben Gravolet, a man in her Louisiana hometown, accused the star of bullying and fat-shaming him as a pre-teen. “I would dread going to (my mum’s) office to see her after school or on a day if I was sick and Ellen was there,” the 52-year-old father of three and New Orleans marketing agency vice president claimed.
“She would criticize my weight. I would try to do homework in the office, she’d call me stupid, she’d call me fat. She would criticize my clothes,” he added.
Ellen was also hit by claims she tried to get a waitress suspended for having chipped nail polish. Actress Chris Farah alleged she was working at popular Los Angeles restaurant Real Food Daily in 2014 when Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi came in for a meal. She was thrilled to meet the stars but found out later Ellen had emailed the restaurant owner complaining about her server’s “s****y” nail polish.

Asking her followers on the blue bird app, Keke wrote on Monday, August 10, “If I were to create a millnnial [sic] ‘The View’, who would you want to be my co-hosts?” Some fans came up with a few suggestions, including Zendaya Coleman, Willow Smith and Sophie Turner.

Keke Palmer teases a new project.
Keke’s “Good Morning America” show, which she co-hosted alongside Michael Strahan and Sara Haines, was canceled in July. During her appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen”, Keke shared that the decision was “expected.”
“Here’s the thing, when the pandemic hit, that’s what became all on our mind, was the pandemic – corona, understanding COVID,” she told host Andy. “So I kind of knew that, if our show did come back, it would have to be much, much, much later because our show is really about an audience.”
She went on saying, “When you think about it, that’s what we do. We do a little bit of news, but it’s entertainment news. It’s really fun conversations and lightheartedness. So it’s a different time now, and some of the conversation has changed, and I think it just kinda pushed (‘Strahan, Sara and Keke’) out.”
Last week, the 26-year-old actress was announced to join the cast of Disney Plus’ series “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder”. Keke will play the role of 14-year-old Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, who is a student and activist. Other cast members include Kyla Pratt, Tommy Davidson, Cedric the Entertainer, Jo Marie Payton and more.

The fourth installment of Noah Hawley’s anthology show, in which comedian Rock will star, will hit TV screens in America on 27 September, five months after it was initially scheduled to premiere in mid-April.

  • Sara Bareilles to Star on Tina Fey's Comedy Series 'Girls5eva'

    WENN

The ‘Gravity’ hitmaker is set to play former Girls5eva member Dawn, who is now a bit restless in life while managing her family’s small Italian restaurant in Queens.
    Aug 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Sara Bareilles and Tina Fey are joining forces for a new comedy series for NBCU’s Peacock. Titled “Girls5eva”, the series will follow a one-hit-wonder girl group from the ’90s that gets sampled by a young rapper, making the members of the girl group decide to get back together.
“They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents and shoulder pain, but can’t they also be Girls5eva?” the logline asks. On the series, Sara is set to play former Girls5eva member Dawn. Her character is described as someone who is now a bit restless in life while managing her family’s small Italian restaurant in Queens. However, when the opportunity arises, Dawn reluctantly reunites Girls5eva, and it might just be exactly what she needed.
“It is a pinch-me moment to get to cross paths creatively with women like Meredith Scardino and Tina Fey, who I have been a fan of forever,” the “Gravity” singer said in a statement. “I am a longtime admirer of so many of the characters they have brought to life in other projects, and I am already in love with the women at the center of Girls5eva. I am so excited to help bring to life what I know will be a smart, creative, hilarious show with a lot of heart.”
Sara’s acting credits included Broadway’s “Waitress” in 2015 and NBC’s 2018 live production of “Jesus Christ Superstar Live!”. However, “Girls5eva” will mark the Grammy-winning singer’s first acting role on a TV series. Meanwhile, she recently executive produced with J.J. Abrams and Jessie Nelson for Apple’s “Little Voice”, a 10-episode musical dramedy series.
Back to “Girls5Eva”, Meredith (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) will pen and executive produce the series. Tina and Robert Carlock will also serve as executive producers along with Jeff Richmond, David Miner and Eric Gurian. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
