Tyler Perry Preparing for Covid-19 Vaccine Documentary to Allay Black People's Fears

    Instagram

The ‘Madea’ filmmaker is gearing up for a documentary about Covid-19 vaccine in hopes to assure Black community that the injection is safe and put their fears to rest.

    Jan 28, 2021
AceShowbiz – Tyler Perry has received the Covid-19 vaccine as he preps a BET documentary about the vaccine to allay the fears of the black community.
The movie mogul has received both doses of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, and told Gayle King on “CBS This Morning” that he wanted to be involved in “COVID-19 Vaccine and the Black Community: A Tyler Perry Special” to try and put people’s fears to rest.
“If you look at our history in this country, the Tuskegee experiment, Henrietta Lacks, it raises flags for us as African American people. So I understand why there’s a healthy scepticism about the vaccine,” he said, admitting that at first, he “didn’t really feel like I could trust it.”

“But once I got all of the information, found out the researchers, I was very, very happy,” he added.
As well as documenting Perry’s own experience with the vaccine, the half-hour BET special features him interviewing both Carlos del Rio, MD Executive Associate Dean for Emory School of Medicine at Grady Health System, and Kimberly Dyan Manning, MD Professor of Medicine at Grady Health System.
“I have a crew that works for me, and they’re largely African-American people who were all sceptical about the vaccine. When they sat in the room, as they worked on the cameras, and doing hair and makeup and all that stuff, they listened to all the information, and by the time we got to the end of it, they all wanted to take it,” he explained. “So I think, again, it all goes back to getting the correct information and getting it from people that you trust and you understand.”
Perry received the second dose of his vaccine on Monday (25Jan21).

Tyler Perry Announced as Recipient of Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at 2021 Oscars

    Instagram

The ‘Madea’ filmmaker is going to be celebrated at the upcoming Academy Awards for his philanthropic efforts and work for social justice and civil rights.

    Jan 15, 2021
AceShowbiz – Tyler Perry will be honoured with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Oscars in April (21).
The actor, writer, and studio boss is being recognised for his philanthropic efforts and work for social justice and civil rights.
Meanwhile, the Motion Picture And Television Fund (MPTF) will become the first organisation to receive the Hersholt Award.
Both awards will be presented at the 93rd annual Academy Awards – the first time the honour has been handed out at the Oscars ceremony since Jerry Lewis was recognised in 2009.

The honorary Oscars have been presented at the Governors Awards in November ever since, but last year’s event was scrapped due to the COVID pandemic.
The last time two separate Hersholt Awards were presented in the same year was in 1993 when Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn were honoured.
“There has been such widespread generosity in our industry that limiting the Hersholt Humanitarian Award to one recipient, this year in particular, was impossible. So, we are breaking with tradition and giving two awards to honor that spirit,” Academy president David Rubin said, while announcing the recipients. “Tyler’s cultural influence extends far beyond his work as a filmmaker. He has quietly and steadily focused on humanitarian and social justice causes from the beginning of his career, caring for people who are most often ignored.”
“The work of the MPTF is more vital than ever, and the organization has gone above and beyond to help our community. The sheer number of individuals and families – from every corner of our industry’s workforce – aided during the pandemic and over the last 100 years is nothing short of extraordinary.”
The 93rd Oscars will be held on 25 April.

The final eight episodes of season eight, written and executive produced by Perry, are set to premiere in May. • Find Out How Tyler Perry Handles Filming During Pandemic After Crew Members Test Positive

    WENN

Despite that, the media mogul and his crew were still able to wrap up the production for the ‘Sistas’ without having any other members test positive for the virus.
    Jul 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Filming during the pandemic era is surely not an easy feat, but Tyler Perry has managed to do it. However, it doesn’t mean he didn’t have any difficulties while shooting “Sistas” because the media mogul recently revealed in an interview that four crew members actually tested positive during the production.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporters, Perry broke down how he handled the situation after learning of the news. “Here’s how it went: We had 160 people check in the first day, go to their rooms, get tested and wait for their results. Nobody was able to leave their rooms. We had two positives in that. So we had them escorted out and got the help that they needed,” the star explained.
“Then 200 people checked in [soon after] and we had two positive inside of the 200. We had them escorted out and got them the help that they needed. So we had four before anybody left their rooms, before anybody started work,” Perry continued, pointing out that this way more people would not be affected. “Those rooms were kept closed and off limits to anybody until after we finished shooting.”
Executive produced by Perry, “Sistas” follows a group of single black women from different walks of life who bond over their one common thread: why am I single? In this bold new series, viewers watch these women navigate their “complicated love life” status, careers and friendship through the ups-and-downs of living in a modern world of social media and unrealistic relationship goals.
First aired in October last year on BET, this comedy-drama series stars KJ Smith, Ebony Obsidian, Mignon Von and Novi Brown among others. It’s still unclear when the second season of the show will be released to the public.

Tyler Perry to Reopen Studios in July and Begin Production of His New Shows

    WENN

The ‘House of Payne’ creator will fly all of his crew and cast members on his private plane and provide coronavirus testing before they start the production.
    May 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tyler Perry is plotting to get back to work with two new BET series.
Amid the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, the 50-year-old producer has set start dates for the new U.S. shows, “Sistas” and “The Oval”, reported Deadline, with work on the seasons beginning one at a time at his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 8, 2020.
Sistas will go first, according to the report, followed by “The Oval” on July 28. Both will film 22 episodes of their second seasons in two and a half weeks.
The plan involves “testing and sequestering the shows’ cast and crew on the sprawling, 330-acre lot of Tyler Perry Studios,” the publication reported.
According to Deadline, Perry is providing his private plane for all involved and, after they test negative for Covid-19 pre-boarding, they will be flown from Los Angeles and New York to Atlanta. Everyone, including Perry, who is directing all episodes, will remain on the lot for the entire duration of the shoot.
The existing structures on the lot, which once housed a military base, will provide accommodation for everyone working on each of the shows “so there will be no need for portable housing as originally thought,” the report continues.
“Upon arrival, everyone will be tested and quarantined in their rooms for four hours while they wait for the results. The cast and crew will be tested four times over the 2.5 weeks of the shoot, with Carlos Del Rio, professor at Emory Vaccine Center, serving as testing consultant.”
Editors at Deadline also noted the dates are early compared with other U.S. TV studios, which are looking to resume filming between August and October.

Tyler Perry Plans to Safely Reopen Atlanta Studio Compound Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

    WENN

Looking to devise a way for his crew to be able to return to work, the filmmaker behind the ‘Madea’ movie series promises there will be additional compensation for those taking risks.
    Apr 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tyler Perry is working on an extensive plan to safely reopen his Atlanta, Georgia production compound amid the coronavirus pandemic.
While the health crisis has shut down productions throughout the world, Perry is looking to devise a way in which those who test negative for the disease will be able to return to work. In a plan shared with Deadline, the writer, actor and director also offered up a way for those working on the shows to live in isolated housing for their safety while shooting is carried out.
He also revealed there would be extra compensation for those taking the risk to work on the shows.
“There would be additional compensation for the crew while they are there, similar to being a non-local hire,” he said of the cast and crew. “It will be the equivalent to if you are on location in Siberia shooting, and you have nowhere to go, you have to build your own campground to make that happen, base camp.”
Despite his optimism, Perry knows there is a lot of work to be done before any shooting can resume, adding that his crew’s comfort level is paramount.
“Every person would have to agree to this, department heads and the unions would have to agree,” he said. “My crew, who have been working with me 15 years now, they are excited about it; they are excited about this idea of possibility of us doing this thing, like we are doing a summer camp for 2 1/2 weeks while we are working.”

The ‘Madea’s Family Reunion’ filmmaker thanks the ‘Parachute’ crooner for belting out a rendition of ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ at the Nashville, Tennessee stop of his ‘Madea’s Farewell Play Tour’.
    Feb 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Country superstar Chris Stapleton helped Tyler Perry bid farewell to his Madea alter ego by performing an impromptu song at the actor/filmmaker’s tour stop in Nashville, Tennessee last week.
Perry has been taking his tough family matriarch on a farewell tour across North America, and when the trek wrapped for good in Nashville on Friday, February 14, Stapleton was spotted among the fans in the audience.
The singer was called upon to show off his talents, and he happily stood up from his seat and took the microphone to belt out a rendition of his hit tune, Tennessee Whiskey, sending fellow crowdmembers wild.
On Tuesday, Perry shared video footage of the unexpected set on Instagram, and thanked the father-of-five for adding his star power to the closing gig of “Madea’s Farewell Play Tour”.
“Madea could not come to the end of the farewell tour and have @chrisstapleton in the audience in Nashville, Tennessee and not have him sing a verse of Tennessee Whiskey! And he KILLED IT!!” Perry captioned the post.
