  • The Weeknd Shuts Down Speculation That He's Beefing With Usher: He's the 'Sweetest'

    Instagram

‘It wasn’t a feud,’ The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, says of his controversial comments on Usher’s 2012 single ‘Climax’ in a cover story with Variety on April 8.
    Aug 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – There is no music beef between The Weeknd and Usher, at least according to the former. In his interview for Esquire cover story, the “Starboy” hitmaker denies having hard feelings for the “No Guidance” singer.
“It wasn’t a feud,” The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, said of his controversial comments on Usher’s 2012 single “Climax” in a cover story with Variety on April 8. “I hit him up to apologize and tell him that it was misconstrued. He’s one of the reasons why I make music. Definitely.”
The “After Hours” musician went on to say, “No, no, I have nothing bad to say about Usher.” The Weeknd further gushed over Usher, calling him “the sweetest, most down-to-earth guy ever.”
The feud rumors between the R&B superstars started after The Weeknd compared “Climax” to his earlier moody R&B music in the interview with Variety. “I heard ‘Climax’, that [2012] Usher song, and was like, ‘Holy f**k, that’s a Weeknd song.’ It was very flattering, and I knew I was doing something right, but I also got angry. But the older I got, I realized it’s a good thing,” he said at the time.
Following the publication of the article, Usher’s frequent collaborator Eric Bellinger started the #ClimaxChallenge on Instagram, showing off the original artist’s piercing falsetto. “Big Bro jumped in to set the record straight!!!… Now all we waitin for is you @theweeknd,” Bellinger wrote in the caption.
Diplo, who served as the song’s co-producer and co-writer, also weighed in on the matter. In a series of tweets, he admitted that The Weeknd’s 2011 “House of Balloons” mixtape was such a crucial influence to the song.
“The production on Climax lends itself to House of Balloons era @theweeknd. when I heard those early records they blew my mind – soulful in their silences, and a spacey iconic voice that felt uniquely internet,” Diplo tweeted on April 9. “The idea of R&B having dark edges was what I wanted to bring to @usher.”

  • Chris Brown Responds to Online Debate Regarding Who'd Win in 'Verzuz' Battle Against Usher

    WENN

In response to the debate, Breezy takes to Instagram to seemingly insinuate that he believes he will win the possible battle but that doesn’t mean he’s interested to do one.
    Jul 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Chris Brown and Usher found themselves trending on Twitter on Sunday, July 26. Fans took to the blue bird app to voice their opinion on who would win if the two R&B stars were going against each other in a “Verzuz” battle.
Some fans were confident that Breezy would easily edge out Usher with one fan writing, “There is a reason why chris brown was asked to do a tribute for [Michael Jackson] TWICE and not usher.” Another fan tweeted alongside a clip of Chris performing, “since chris brown is living in y’all heads rent free again, let’s bring back this iconic tribute. pay respect when respect is due.”
“Chris Brown said he will never do a vs battle because he’s only in competition with himself. So there goes the answer to that,” one user said, referring to Chris’ Instagram post in which he said, “Only vs ima do is CHRIS BROWN VS CHRIS BREEZY… not in competition with nobody but myself….”

Meanwhile, some others thought Usher would definitely win the battle. “Why do people think Usher would lose in a battle against Chris Brown??? I don’t get it,” said someone. “Usher WASHES Chris Brown in a Versus. S*****t he might beat him with just the Confession album alone,” a confident fan added.
“Waymint… THEE Usher Raymond that told us ‘Confession’ and to ‘Let it burn?’ ‘Seven o’clock in drop top cruising the streets’ Usher? Tell them chirren to go to bed! Ain’t nan way!” another fan chimed in.

In response to the debate, Breezy took to Instagram to seemingly insinuate that he believed he would win the possible battle but that didn’t mean he’s interested to do one. “What we not gone do is CAP,” the “No Guidance” singer wrote on Instagram Stories on Sunday.

In a separate post, he added, “I could do a vs off features alone… So I’ll humbly decline… I’m busy doing nothing.”

  • Usher Reveals How His 'Tough' Upbringing Inspires New Song 'I Cry'

    WENN

Encouraging men to embrace their emotions through the song, the ‘U Got It Bad’ hitmaker says that the ‘universal feeling of hopelessness’ amid the Black Lives Matter protests motivated him to release the tune.
    Jun 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Usher has encouraged men not to be afraid to show their emotions in his powerful new song “I Cry”.
The 41-year-old singer is father to Usher Raymond V, 12, and Naviyd, 11, with ex-wife Tameka Foster, and admitted he wants to set an example to his boys that there’s no shame in a man crying.
“This song was inspired by wanting to teach my sons that it is ok for a man to feel emotions deeply and to cry. Like many men, I was raised to believe that we have to be ‘tough’ and not show our vulnerability, which I don’t want to teach them,” he wrote in a statement on Twitter.
Usher added that the death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests around the world also motivated him to drop the inspirational tune.

“While I was shut in during the pandemic and watching the death of George Floyd, the ongoing slaughter of Black men and women, the protests and the events that unfolded, I became very connected to the wider universal feeling of hopelessness,” he explained.

“Like many, I grew increasingly frustrated by how slow things have been to change. I became very depressed thinking about all (the) sons who have lost their fathers to police brutality, social injustice and violence; the daughters and mothers too. So I returned to this song and realised it was intended for this time, so I finished it and here it is.”

Barbz Mad at Usher for Calling Nicki Minaj a 'Product' of Lil' Kim

    WENN

The ‘U Got It Bad’ rapper inadvertently shades the ‘Anaconda’ hitmaker while weighing on potential ‘Verzuz’ battle between Nicki and Kim during an Instagram Live chat with Swizz Beatz.
    May 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Usher has incurred the wrath of Barbz. The R&B singer inadvertently threw shade at Nicki Minaj during an Instagram Live chat with Swizz Beatz while talking about potential “Verzuz” battles fans are begging for.
During their discussion on Sunday, May 17, they brought up a few “Verzuz” battles involving Lil’ Kim that fans want a lot. “I see a lot of, Lil’ Kim versus Foxy Brown. Then I see a lot of – Lil’ Kim versus Nicki? I see a lot of that,” Swizz said to Usher.
Usher thinks the latter battle is impossible, saying, “Nah, Nicki is a product of Kim.” His remark quickly gained reactions from social media users as Swizz alerted the “Yeah!” hitmaker, “You already trending on Twitter right now, by the way.” He went on enthusing, “This is the Verzuz effect, king. I see you trending on Twitter! This is special, this is fun.”

Usher didn’t further explain his comment, but considering his history with Nicki, he might not mean to disrespect her. He teamed up with the Harajuku Barbie on 2010’s “Lil’ Freak”, while he also worked with Kim when she appeared on his song “Just Like Me”.
This didn’t stop people from commenting on Usher’s claim about Nicki being a “product” of Kim. Agreeing with the awards-winning singer, one commented, “Of course she’s the product, Kim is the blue print.” An Instagram user reminded others, “Y’all are really dumb to think she’s not … she’s said it herself many times Kim influenced her and opened doors that allowed her to be the super star she is today.”
While acknowledging that Nicki was influenced by Kim, a third person thinks that the Trinidad and Tobago-born femcee has grown beyond that. “I mean she has always showed Kim love as she should Kim paved the way I’ll never take that from her….but let’s be real Nick has surpassed being ‘a product of lil Kim’ I know y’all Dont wanna hear the TRUTH…..I just wished Nick and Kim would squash whatever it is and make a hit together,” the said user wrote.
Another similarly said of the “Starships” raptress, “Nicki has surpassed lil Kim in every which way possible .. Nicki also gave usher some on her hottest versus on his song .. they always discrediting her.”
Some others slammed Usher for making such disrespectful comment about Nicki. “She wasn’t a product when he asked for a feature,” one said of Justin Bieber’s mentor. Another who disagreed with Usher commented, “Nicki Minaj is in her own lane! Give her her damn respect. Y’all stuck on these color wigs… and that lollipop picture… Kim cool but Nicki pen game is unmatched!!”
Also not having Usher’s comment, someone else clapped back, “HOW THO?! Nicki music isn’t comparable to Kim’s at all. Their music style is different and y’all know it. A few wings and appearances don’t mean nothing. And if we gone talk about ‘product’ Bc of style then let’s talk about how kim is a product of Cher and Madonna.”

The Weeknd Credits Himself for Inspiring Usher to Use His Music Style in 2012 Hit 'Climax'

    WENN

Though initially angry that the ‘My Boo’ singer copied his signature alternative RnB style, the ‘Blinding Lights’ hitmaker now admits that he found the move ‘very flattering.’
    Apr 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Weeknd believed he played a part in the success of Usher’s hit single “Climax”. Eight years after the 2012 song from the “My Boo” singer’s “Looking 4 Myself” album topped the R&B chart, the “Blinding Lights” hitmaker came forward to claim that his fellow musician was inspired by his signature music style.
In the latest cover story for Variety, the 30-year-old Canadian singer expressed his belief that his 2011 debut remix “House of Balloons” was used by the 41-year-old musician for his 2012 single. ” ‘House of Balloons’ literally changed the sound of pop music before my eyes,” he said. “I heard ‘Climax’, that [2012] Usher song, and was like, ‘Holy f**k, that’s a Weeknd song.’ ”
The “Starboy” singer, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, admitted that hearing his signature alternative R&B style in the “Yeah!” hitmaker’s music initially made him mad. “It was very flattering, and I knew I was doing something right, but I also got angry,” he gushed. “But the older I got, I realized it’s a good thing.”
During the interview, the ex-boyfriend of Bella Hadid also discussed the release of his latest album “After Hours”. While many artists postponed their albums because of the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, he pressed on with his plan due to his devotees. “Fans had been waiting for the album, and I felt like I had to deliver it,” he claimed.
“The commercial success is a blessing, especially because the odds were against me: [Music] streaming is down 10%, stores are closed, people can’t go to concerts, but I didn’t care. I knew how important it was to my fans.”
The album itself was inspired by The Weeknd’s own story. One particular track, “Snowchild”, spoke about the dark time when he was abusing drugs. “It was tough growing up where I was from,” he noted. “I got into a lot of trouble, got kicked out of school, moved to different schools and finally dropped out.”
“I really thought film was gonna be my way out, but I couldn’t really make a movie to feel better, you know? Music was very direct therapy; it was immediate and people liked it. It definitely saved my life,” he confided.

Usher's Producer Reacts to Rumors of Herpes Song in 'Confessions Part 3'

    WENN/Avalon

Jermaine Dupri says anyone who believes the ‘Burn’ hitmaker talks about contracting sexually transmitted disease in the upcoming studio album ‘is tripping.’
    Feb 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Usher poured his heart out in his upcoming album “Confessions Part 3”. However, fans were distracted by his lyrics that narrated his visit to emergency room because of a “sickness.” They’re convinced he sang about his herpes in the song.
As the singer was trolled on the internet, his longtime producer Jermaine Dupri came to his defense. He vehemently denied the subtle reference to his alleged STD, “I see y’all trippin… CONFESSIONS PART 3 is from a females perspective.”
Dupri claimed, “The song is about a girl cheatin’ on him and getting’ pregnant by another man. She is then being stuck with the decision to keep or abort it. Now that he knows, Should he stay or Leave ???”

Usher was sued by multiple women in the past for allegedly exposing them to sexually transmitted disease after engaging in unprotected sex with the star. In leaked court documents, he reached a settlement with one of the women for $1.1 million.
“Remember that time I was sitting up sick, couldn’t sleep in the middle of the night?” he sang in his new album. “You said bae let me take you to the ER, I said, ‘Nah, Ima be aight’ / Well the next day I found out from f**king around that the sickness I had was life / And I was fixed with the decision to keep it, knowing I had to get rid of it.”
“I would do anything to get your trust back,” he continued. “Realise that we’re both wrong / No more lies we can move on / If you lose that trust you built for so long / Now that’s the test to see if you’re strong.”
Usher hasn’t responded to the herpes song rumors, but in the past, he vehemently denied he’s a carrier of the herpes virus.
