    'Watchmen' and 'Schitt's Creek' Collect Multiple Wins at 2020 TCA Awards

    The hit HBO series starring Regina King lands four kudos from the Television Critics Association, while the Dan and Eugene Levy-created comedy series secures two.

    AceShowbiz – “Watchmen” has continued its dominance of the TV awards circuit by landing four honors from the Television Critics Association on Monday, September 14.
    Six days before the Emmys are sure to rain down on the hit HBO series, the show picked up the Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Movie or Miniseries, and Outstanding New Program gongs at the 36th TCA Awards, while star Regina King scored the Individual Achievement in Drama prize.
    Comedy series “Schitt’s Creek” was another multiple award winner, landing the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy award, while leading lady Catherine O’Hara was handed the Individual Achievement in Comedy trophy.
    The TCA Awards 2020 full list of winners is:

      AceShowbiz – “Ozark”, “Watchmen”, “Succession”, “Dead to Me”, “Killing Eve”, and “Schitt’s Creek” lead the the 72nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations with three nods apiece.
      The comedies and dramas all picked up outstanding series mentions while their leading men and women all grabbed outstanding actor and actress nods.
      Submissions for the 2020 Emmys shattered records with an increase of 15 per cent over the 2019 ceremony, when there were more than 9,100 submissions
      The nominees announcement, streamed on Emmys.com on Tuesday morning (28Jul20), was hosted virtually by Leslie Jones, a three-time Emmy nominee for her work on “Saturday Night Live”, with presenters Tatiana Maslany, Laverne Cox, and Josh Gad.
      The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented on 20 September (20) with Jimmy Kimmel as host.
      Meanwhile, the Creative Arts Emmys, which will honour technical and costuming merit, will be presented at a virtual event taking place over several nights in September in place of a physical prizegiving, which was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

      The Michael Jackson documentary and the DC Comics series land a nomination each at the Peabody Awards, joining ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ and ‘Stranger Things’ among others.

      AceShowbiz – Stirring Michael Jackson documentary “Leaving Neverland” and TV series “Watchmen” and “Stranger Things” are among the nominees for the Peabody Awards.
      “Leaving Neverland”, which chronicles sexual molestation allegations made against the late King of Pop by James Safechuck and Wade Robson, will compete for the documentary prize alongside the “Surviving R. Kelly” series, which explores the years of misconduct claims made against the veteran R&B singer.
      Other nominees in that category include 2020 Oscar Documentary (Feature) winner “American Factory”, “Apollo 11”, “Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men”, and “For Sama”.
      The Entertainment section features hit series “Fleabag”, “Watchmen”, “Chernobyl”, “Stranger Things”, “Succession”, and “When They See Us”, the acclaimed Netflix miniseries from Ava DuVernay about the wrongful convictions of the Central Park Five.
      Meanwhile, among those competing for the Podcast title are pop culture series “Dolly Parton’s America”, criminal justice reform show 70 Million, and “The Catch and Kill Podcast with Ronan Farrow”, about how he helped to bring disgraced producer and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein to justice.
      Nominations for the annual ceremony, organised by officials at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia to honour compelling and empowering TV, radio, and digital media programming from the past year, were unveiled on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.
      Winners are typically celebrated at an in-person gala, but the coronavirus pandemic recently forced producers to cancel plans to stage their ceremony in Los Angeles for the first time on June 18, 2020.
      A new date for the winners to be unveiled has yet to be announced.
