Zack Snyder Plots DC Movie Marathon to Raise Funds for Suicide Prevention

    WENN

The ‘Justice League’ director plans to host a viewing party for ‘Man of Steel’, ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, and ‘Justice League’ to raise money for good cause.

    Apr 29, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Director Zack Snyder is planning to stage a mammoth movie marathon of his “Justice League” trilogy to celebrate the superhero franchise with fans and raise money for a good cause.

The filmmaker recently debuted his four-hour director’s cut of “Justice League”, and now he would like to screen it as part of a special fundraising event, where attendees would also get to view his 2013 Superman blockbuster “Man of Steel”, and 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in one weekend.

Snyder, who stepped down from completing “Justice League” following his daughter’s suicide, is just waiting for the COVID pandemic to blow over so he can give fans a big viewing to remember.

“Just the trilogy now, if you use the Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition, which is the director’s cut edition, that’s a solid three hours, and then Justice League is four, so the trilogy is nine hours now, so it’s a pretty good little world, if you really wanna go (there),” he explained.

“I’m hoping in the fall to do a fundraiser for suicide prevention where we’re gonna play all three IMAX – because I did complete an IMAX version of Justice League – and so our plan is in the fall, all the fans to get together and do like, a weekend at Universal CityWalk (Hollywood attraction) or somewhere with a giant theatre, and everyone flies in from all over the world, all the hardcore fans, and we just do all three movies and just go nuts (sic).”

Snyder came up with the idea for the trilogy screening event as a way to give back to fans who have really supported him throughout his family tragedy and the drama surrounding the original “Justice League” release, which was critically-mauled after Joss Whedon was brought onboard to complete the 2017 film.

The overwhelmingly-negative fan reaction prompted devotees to call on Snyder to share his own cut of the DC Comics film, which premiered in March (21) as “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”.

Appearing on the “Life Is Short” with Justin Long podcast, he said of the opportunity to share his vision with the world, “It was incredibly cathartic and we really all did a lot of healing through this process, and literally a lot of the fans have really become, you’re not supposed to do this, but they’re now friends of mine…”

“There’s a core group of them that really are amazing, they’ve raised so much money for suicide prevention and mental health awareness, it’s unbelievable…”

'Zack Snyder's Justice League' Accidentally Released Early in Place of 'Tom and Jerry'

    HBO Max

HBO Max users clicking to watch the CGI/live-action comedy film of the famous cartoon duo are surprised that Snyder’s cut of the superhero film plays instead.

    Mar 9, 2021
AceShowbiz – “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” came 10 days early for some unsuspecting HBO Max subscribers. On Monday, March 8, fans were surprised by the sudden arrival of the long-awaited director’s cut of the superhero movie, but they might not get to see it until the end.
The anticipated four-hour film from Synder was up for at least an hour and accidentally played in place of “Tom & Jerry” on the streaming service. Doug Bass of Charlotte, North Carolina was one of those surprised users and he brought to light the accidental release on Twitter.
Bass said he just wanted to put the CGI/live-action comedy film for background noise while he worked on Monday afternoon when “The Snyder Cut” played instead. “@hbomax someone’s getting fired…Tom and Jerry this is not…#SnyderCut,” he tweeted.
He went on gushing about the superhero movie, “The CGI finally rivals that of Marvel and you’re gonna love it. That’s all im saying. No spoilers. Get excited.” While he claimed that he’s “never been a huge DC movie fan,” he raved that “it is the best DC film I’ve ever seen.”

Bass told Variety about an hour into the feed, he noticed the definition of the image began to degrade, then an error message appeared on his screen and the film disappeared. When he attempted to restart the film, “Tom & Jerry” played instead, suggesting that HBO Max has fixed the error by that time.

HBO Max user shared a screengrab of ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ accidental debut.
HBO Max has released a statement on the technical glitch. Seemingly confirming that it’s Snyder’s version that viewers watched, a spokesperson from WarnerMedia said, ” ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ was temporarily available on HBO Max and the error was addressed within minutes.”
“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” isn’t due until March 18. Snyder’s version of the film will include some new scenes which he filmed, with Jared Leto, Amber Heard and Joe Manganiello reprising their roles as Joker, Mera and Deathstroke respectively.

Zack Snyder Not Getting Paid for 'Justice League' Director's Cut

    WENN

The ‘Dawn of the Dead’ director says he wasn’t paid for the upcoming ‘Justice League’ super cut as the filmmaker wanted creative control of his version.

    Feb 24, 2021
AceShowbiz – Zack Snyder wasn’t paid for his director’s cut of “Justice League”.
The filmmaker – whose own version of the 2017 comic book blockbuster is set to launch on HBO Max on 18 March (21) – was paid for his initial work on the project before stepping down as Joss Whedon took over, but he wanted creative control for the new release.
“I’m not getting paid… I didn’t want to be beholden to anyone, and it allowed me to keep my negotiating powers with these people pretty strong,” he told Vanity Fair.
Snyder has also revealed how Warner Bros. initially wanted the director’s cut version to be a case of releasing the raw footage on his laptop.
However, he disagreed and pushed to be able to do his own vision justice rather than just putting out unedited material.

“I was like, ‘That’s a no, that’s a hard no.’ And they’re like, ‘But why? You can just put up the rough cut,’ ” he added.
“I go, ‘Here’s why. Three reasons: One, you get the internet off your back, which is probably your main reason for wanting to do this. Two, you get to feel vindicated for making things right, I guess, on some level.’ ”
” ‘And then three, you get a s**tty version of the movie that you can point at and go, ‘See? It’s not that good anyway. So maybe I was right.’ I was like, ‘No chance.’ I would rather just have the Snyder cut be a mythical unicorn for all time.”
Snyder has also admitted he couldn’t have done the movie in the way Whedon did and revealed he didn’t see his cut.
“How am I supposed to introduce six characters and an alien with potential for world domination in two hours?” he argued. “I mean, I can do it, it can be done. Clearly it was done. But I didn’t see it.”

Ryan Reynolds Flat-Out Denies Rumors of Green Lantern Cameo in Zack Snyder's 'Justice League'

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The Canadian star makes it clear that he has no interest in reprising his role as Hal Jordan while responding to a speculation that his appearance is the big surprise in store for the Snyder Cut.

    Feb 23, 2021
AceShowbiz – Ryan Reynolds has shut down any hope of seeing him back as Green Lantern. The actor, who has several times poked fun at the commercial and critical failure of his 2011 DC movie, has flat-out denied rumors of his possible cameo as the green-costumed superhero in “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”.
“It’s not me. But what a cool pirate flag to cameo as Hal. Maybe it’s another GL?” the Canadian hunk tweeted on Monday, February 22. Making it clear that he has no interest in reprising his role as Hal Jordan, he added, “But for me, the suit stays in the closet. I mean, computer.”

Ryan Reynolds responds to rumor of his Green Lantern cameo in ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’.
The speculation arose after Vanity Fair reported earlier on Monday that the ending of Zack Snyder’s cut of “Justice League” would include a major cameo. Fans then started suggesting that the big surprise in store could be Reynolds’ appearance as Hal Jordan.

Reynolds portrayed Hal Jordan a.k.a. Green Lantern in the 2011 film directed by Martin Campbell. The movie received mostly negative reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office, grossing $219 million against a production budget of $200 million.
Not a fan of the film either, the 44-year-old actor has mocked the movie over the years, even including jokes about it in his “Deadpool” films. Back in 2013, he expressed that he had “very little interest” in reprising the role in a “Justice League” movie.
“Working on ‘Green Lantern’, I saw how difficult it is make that concept palatable, and how confused it all can be when you don’t really know exactly where you’re going with it or you don’t really know how to access that world properly – that world comic book fans have been accessing for decades and falling in love with,” he explained at the time. “So at this point I have very little interest in joining that kind of world. But, you know, a great script and a good director can always turn that around.”
In his version of “Justice League”, Snyder filmed several minutes of new footage with Ben Affleck (Batman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg) and Amber Heard (Mera). His cut will also include Joker (Jared Leto) and Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello) scenes. It will be released as a four-hour movie on HBO Max on March 18.

Zack Snyder Dedicates His 'Justice League' Super Cut to Late Daughter Following Her Suicide

    Vero

The DC filmmaker opens up about his departure from the superhero movie back in 2017, admitting he ‘lost the will to fight’ for the film following daughter’s tragic death.

    Feb 23, 2021
AceShowbiz – Filmmaker Zack Snyder “lost the will to fight” for his version of the “Justice League” movie after struggling to come to terms with the tragic death of his daughter.
Snyder stepped down as director of the 2017 superhero blockbuster after his adopted child Autumn committed suicide and, although he was already deep into the post-production stage of the project, he didn’t have the strength to challenge the changes his replacement, Joss Whedon, made to his original vision.
Discussing why he and his production partner and wife Deborah walked away from the film, he said, “We just lost the will to fight that fight in a lot of ways. All of us, the whole family, we’re just so broken by (losing Autumn) that having those conversations in the middle of it really became… I was like, ‘Really?’ ”
“Frankly I think we did the right thing because I think it would’ve been either incredibly belligerent or we (would have) just rolled over.”
Whedon’s final release was poorly received by fans and critics alike, and now, Snyder is preparing to unveil his own super cut of “Justice League”.

      See also…

He admits he has no plans to check out Whedon’s version because he was warned against doing so by both his wife and his director pal Christopher Nolan, who had viewed the film at a private screening before its original release.
“They came and they just said, ‘You can never see that movie,’ ” Snyder told Vanity Fair.
Now he’s been given the opportunity to premiere his take as a four-hour movie on U.S. streaming service HBO Max next month (Mar21), but Snyder didn’t want to release his cut without additional finishing touches.
The reworked “Justice League” also concludes with a tribute to his late daughter, the only one of Snyder’s eight kids to share his love of sci-fi and mythical creatures – and he credits her for inspiring his latest work.
“At the end of the movie, it says ‘For Autumn,’ ” Snyder said. “Without her, this absolutely would not have happened.”

Zack Snyder's 'Justice League' Likely to Hit Small Screen in March as Four-Hour Film

    HBO Max

A new trailer for the ‘Watchmen’ director’s version of the blockbuster movie features super-villain Steppenwolf kneeling before Darkseid, in addition to offering more scenes of Ray Fisher as Cyborg.

    Feb 15, 2021
AceShowbiz – Zack Snyder’s four-hour “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” epic will no longer drop as installments on streaming site HBO Max.
HBO and DC bosses confirmed the plan to chop up the film in parts during the virtual DC Fandome event last summer (20), but it now appears the film will hit the small screen as one blockbuster on 18 March (21).
A new trailer features all the “Justice League” stars and includes scenes that were cut by Joss Whedon, who completed the 2017 film after Snyder was forced to step down as director due to a family tragedy.
Fans were left underwhelmed by Whedon’s film and badgered Snyder to patch his version back together. The filmmaker agreed to do just that in 2017, and added reshoots to the film.

In one new scene, that features in the latest trailer, super-villain Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) appears, kneeling before a bigger boss – Darkseid, while the climax of the teaser features Jared Leto’s “Joker” making a big cameo in a chat with Ben Affleck’s Batman from Snyder’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice”.
There are also more scenes of Ray Fisher as Cyborg in the new trailer.

Snyder confirmed he would be swelling the character’s appearance in his “Justice League”, despite the actor’s ongoing public spat on social media against Warner Bros. regarding their handling of his accusations of onset misconduct against Whedon. Fisher’s claims have sparked a series of accusations about Whedon’s bad behavior behind the camera.

Jared Leto's Joker Gets Creepy Makeover in First-Look Pics of Zack Snyder's 'Justice League'

    HBO Max/Zack Snyder

The director also shares details of the sequence in which the Batman villain will appear and its significance to show the Caped Crusader’s hatred toward the Clown Prince of Crime.

    Feb 10, 2021
AceShowbiz – After teased by Zack Snyder on his social media page, the first official look at Jared Leto’s Joker in his upcoming version of “Justice League” has been unveiled in full. Courtesy of Vanity Fair, the two pictures reveal the character’s creepy transformation.
The first of the black-and-white snaps give a close-up look at Joker’s face, which appears to have some scratches on the forehead, below his eye and his chin area. Another image gives an eerie vibe as it shows the Batman villain looking fully insane while sitting in a long, narrow space.

He sports long hair which is slicked back and left hanging on his shoulders, while wearing a hospital gown, which appears to be badly stained. He also wears surgical gloves while sitting on a stool, which is the only furniture seen in the plain room.

      See also…

Leto’s Joker also sports a bulletproof vest festooned with grimy law enforcement badges. “He has tons of badges,” according to Snyder, who describes the badges as “his trophies.”
Speaking to the site, Snyder admits that adding Joker to the movie has always been one of his main obsessions when he’s offered a chance to complete his own take on the 2017 movie. “The Joker is really the only thing that I thought of in retrospect,” he says. “But I will say that it was always my intention to bring Joker into that world.”
[SPOILER ALERT!] In “The Snyder Cut”, Leto’s Joker will appear in a dream sequence set on a ruined Earth after the alien tyrant Darkseid invades and decimates the planet. It is Bruce Wayne’s (Ben Affleck) dream that reveals what will happen if the superheroes fail to stop the onslaught.
“The cool thing about the scene is that it’s Joker talking directly to Batman about Batman,” Snyder says of the scene and its significance. “It’s Joker analyzing Batman about who he is and what he is. That’s the thing I also felt like fans deserved from the DC Universe. That is to say, the Jared Leto Joker and the Ben Affleck Batman, they never really got together. It seemed uncool to me that we would make it all the way through this incarnation of Batman and Joker without seeing them come together.”
He continues, “The scene explains why Bruce had the Joker card taped to his gun that you see in ‘Batman v Superman’,” which suggests Batman’s sidekick Robin’s death at the hands of Joker. While noting that there won’t be another Batman film by him, Snyder says he always wanted to show “how they became like this … how he hurt him in a way that no one has, really. Other than losing his parents, it was probably the most significant personal injury to his life.”
“Zack Snyder’s Justice League” is set to be released on HBO Max on March 18.

Zack Snyder Claps Back at Critics of 'Toxic Fandom' for Pushing His Version of 'Justice League'

    Twitter

The filmmaker defends his fans against ‘fakers’ who were against the campaign for ‘The Snyder Cut’ of the superhero movie, asking their credibility for saying something about his fanbase.

    Feb 4, 2021
AceShowbiz – While “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” is a deemed blessing for fans of the filmmaker who are dying for his version of the superhero film, not a few were against the campaign of “The Snyder Cut”. These people believed that Zack Snyder’s cut of “Justice League” would never exist and even after HBO Max gave the greenlight to the project, they insisted that this “toxic fandom” should not be rewarded.
Now, on the heels of “The Snyder Cut” release, Snyder has addressed the criticism leveled at his fanbase. Speaking to CinemaBlend, the filmmaker saw it as “sour grapes.” He elaborated, “There’s really no other way to say it. We know the people who were the architects of that narrative, and it’s pretty obvious what their agenda is. Those are people that I’ve been held back from confronting, by wiser people in the room.”
“Because I’d love to get at some of these characters. Some direct conversation would be nice,” he added. “Just to say, one, you don’t know s**t about what you’re talking about. And we can break down everything they’ve ever [said]. I can make a list. There’s a few of these guys where I could just get a list of everything they’ve ever said, that they thought was right, and [I could tell them] every single thing they’ve said is wrong.”

      See also…

Defending his fanbase, the director questioned these critics’ credibility for speaking on his fans. “And so, in what world do you have any credibility anywhere, to any- one? I would love the opportunity to just say to the world, and to fandom in general, who these fakers are and what should be done to them, or with them. It’s just a bunch of BS,” he clapped back.
He went on citing his fans’ good deeds as saying, “In regards to that toxic fandom, or it’s ‘a win for toxic fandom,’ again, in what world does this ‘toxic fandom’ raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for suicide prevention? How is that toxic fandom? They’ve probably achieved more than any other fan base, [and done more] good than any other group. So I don’t understand.”
For “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”, HBO Max gave the director $70 million budget for reshoots, additional visual effects, score and editing. Jared Leto, Amber Heard and Joe Manganiello are also added to the cast to reprise their DCEU roles as Joker, Mera and Deathstroke respectively, though their characters were not featured in the original version released in 2017.
Snyder’s version will premiere on the streaming service on March 18.
