Television presenter Kate Garraway has issued a heartfelt plea to the country to follow the guidance from government to stop the spread of coronavirus.
The 53-year-old ITV star has revealed that she wants to show people flouting lockdown rules pictures of her poorly husband Derek Draper in his current state.
Discussing the latest coronavirus news during Thursday’s edition of Good Morning Britain with hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray, Kate said that she sympathises with people who are “fed up” with the pandemic but said that people need to keep on following the “basic rules”.
The former I’m A Celebrity contestant said: “I have huge sympathy with people who are fed up with it [coronavirus].
“I think if you haven’t been touched by it directly, but your livelihood has been devastated, then of course you are going to get frustrated.
“It makes me tempted to show them a picture of Derek in his current state and say: ‘You don’t want this in your life’.”
She continued: “I think there is huge confusion but we know we should be wearing a mask and social distancing. We have to do our best.”
“There is so many shades of grey. If we stick to the basics we can hopefully get through it.”
Kate went on to reveal that Derek’s parents haven’t been able to visit their son in hospital for six months.
The mum of two said if they can go through that with their son desperately ill then the rest of us can get through this.
“I think if Derek’s parents, who haven’t seen him for six months, can do it then anyone can,” Kate explained.
“Sorry to bring the mood down.”
Kate’s GMB co-star Susanna, 49, said: “We just want to give you a hug.”
Derek has become the longest patient battling coronavirus in hospital in the UK.
The former Labour lobbyist has just spent his 184th day in hospital, where he’s been in and out of intensive care and spent months in an induced coma.
It’s been a gruelling six months for Kate and her family ever since he was first hospitalised on March 28.

According to The Sun, he is now the longest-surviving coronavirus victim in the UK who is still receiving treatment in hospital.
Kate’s friend told the publication: “Kate has been so brave and her strength is awe-inspiring.
“But the truth is that progress is very, very slow. Derek has now been hospitalised for six months which makes him one of only a handful of people who have been in hospital for this long.
“It’s incredibly tough for Kate though because some days he shows signs of improvement, and then 24 hours later he has taken a worrying turn for the worse. It’s literally one step forward, two steps back.”

They added that Kate is in disbelief that Derek has been in hospital for so long, but that the fact his fight continues gives her hope when so many people have lost their lives to the pandemic.
Heartbroken Kate hasn’t been able to visit Derek, the father of her two children Darcey and Billy, on a regular basis because of restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
Doctors and hospital staff have been helping out by FaceTiming Kate from Derek’s bedside.
Derek fell ill in March with symptoms of Covid-19 and tested positive.
He was admitted to intensive care where he was put on a ventilator and spent several weeks in intensive care before being woken from his induced coma in July.
Ever since then, he’s been in a state of “minimum consciousness” and, while he has since testing negative for Covid-19, he hasn’t yet said his first word.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
