Dan Walker slams Piers Morgan's offer to join BBC Breakfast amid Louise exit

Dan Walker has rejected Piers Morgan’s offer to join him on the BBC Breakfast sofa.

The 44-year-old presenter savagely shut down Piers’ playful proposition following the announcement that Louise Minchin is leaving BBC Breakfast after 20 years as host.

Taking to Twitter following the news that was shared live on-air during Tuesday’s show, Dan paid tribute to his long-standing colleague and shared a selection of pictures of the pair at work.

It wasn’t long before Piers, 56, butted in and told his rival Dan to “stop blubbing” over the news that Louise has quit the programme.

The former newspaper editor went on to suggest he would be replacing her, something Dan was clearly not happy about.

He penned: “Stop blubbing Dan – I start Monday.

“BBC wanted the guy who beat you in the ratings, and the first same-sex male breakfast presenting team to appease the wokies.”

However, the proposition was a straight no from Dan, who hit back with a brutal reply.

“No thanks… wouldn’t want you storming off if Carol [Kirkwood – BBC weather presenter] asked you something awkward. #TearsForPiers,” he hit back.

Dan’s comment referred to when Piers walked out during a heated discussion with weather presenter Alex Beresford on what turned out to be his final show on Good Morning Britain in March this year.

Earlier in the day, Dan tweeted that Louise’s departure from the show “feels like a break-up”.

“What am I going to do without Louise?” he asked.

“Thank you for all the lovely messages after an emotional morning on #BBCBreakfast – I’m sure Louise will get to read them all later.

“My life will be poorer without her on the sofa. She’s the best.”

Piers congratulated Louise on being a “class act” on the show.

“Great innings Louise – you’re a class act. Enjoy those lie-ins!” he tweeted.

Taking about their playful rivalry, Dan previously told The Times: ” “Piers and I have had a friendly rivalry, but it has been good for BBC Breakfast and GMB.

“He likes to throw a few insults around, but underneath all the froth I think there is a decent bloke fighting to get out.”

“They are very different programmes and I’ve always said GMB do a good job.”

The pair, who insist they have a good relationship in person, regularly trade off on social media, with Piers usually calling out Dan for being “too soft” in his interviews with politicians.
