Louise Minchin addresses Strictly rumours after BBC Breakfast exit announcement

BBC Breakfast Louise Minchin has addressed the rumours that she’s set to join the cast of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 52-year-old journalist was back on presenting duty on Wednesday morning alongside co-star Dan Walker.

She wanted to thank viewers for their support after she announced on Tuesday that she’s leaving BBC Breakfast after 20 years as host.

Louise said that she’s been “inundated” with lovely messages and wanted to take the opportunity to share her gratitude.

However, conversation quickly turned to what Louise could go on to do with her spare time.

Rummaging through newspapers, Dan, 44, said: “Can I just check something with you?”

He added: “You’re all over the papers today Louise and I’d like to hear this direct from the horses mouth.”

“Bookies were giving 3/1 odds on Louise appearing on Strictly Come Dancing. So is there something you want to tell us?”

A nervous Louise replied: “You know the answer to that.”

Dan added: “You’ve been banned by your family.”

“I’m on a lifetime ban,” the mother of two added.

Louise first presented the show in 2001 and moved with the famous red sofa to Media City in Salford as a lead presenter in 2012.

Speaking about her decision, Louise said in a statement: “I have absolutely loved being part of the 6 million strong BBC Breakfast family but after nearly two decades presenting the programme, I have decided it is time I stopped setting my alarm for 0340 in the morning.

“I will take so many memories with me, including reporting on the shock and anguish of the Manchester Arena bombing; starting a national conversation about Menopause; and the life-changing moment I took part in the Breakfast Christmas Cycling Challenge which inspired my ongoing passion for endurance sport, which I will continue when I leave.

“A big thank you to everyone who has watched and supported me, I have loved it and I will miss you all.”
