Amanda Holden has opened about the “absolutely heartbreaking” moment she witnessed desperate families fleeing war.
The 51-year-old Britain’s Got Talent judge appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning (March 22).
She recently visited the Ukraine boarder to report at a refugee camp in Medyka in Poland about the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Amanda risked her life to make the journey to interview people for her new podcast, Ukraine’s Hidden Voices.
The Heart FM radio presenter told Susanna Reid and Martin Lewis: “I put something up on my Instagram to raise awareness for the Red Cross.
“I seen a comment from a woman in Ukraine and I started a conversation with her.
“I managed to call her and I spoke to my producers at Heart and we decided to do a podcast so their voices could be heard.”
Mother-of-two Amanda went on to reveal that one of her podcast listeners told her that she needed to see what was going on in Ukraine for herself.
“There was an American volunteer who said I should see it for myself.
“It was very overwhelming. I said to my two daughters, I can’t imagine what you and I would pack into a bag.
“It’s an horrendous situation for them all.”
Amanda went on to share an update about the lady who contacted her on social media.
She explained: “After about 10 days she got onto a packed train, which was reminiscent of World War Two scene. She is now safely in Romania.”
Speaking on the phone just metres from Ukrainian soil last week, Amanda gave an emotional interview about what she has seen.
Former Wild At Heart and Cutting It actress Amanda said at the time: “I am little watching people trickling in from over the border.
“It’s extraordinary to witness how quickly people have got together. There’s a whole village here.

“There are stalls and stalls of food and clothes. I’ve seen things from Asda and Tesco. It’s amazing where it’s all come from. People are serving teas and coffees and hot food.
