Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans have been left fuming at a major schedule shake-up to make way for Britain’s Got Talent.
To make way for the competition’s live shows beginning on Monday, May 30, ITV has announced a change in its weekly evening lineup.
From May 30, Emmerdale will air at 7pm instead of its regular 7.30pm slot.
Fans of the soap will also get 30 minutes less of Emmerdale that week, as the hour-long Thursday night episode will not air.
Coronation Street will also move from its regular broadcasting schedule of airing hour-long episodes on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.
Instead, the soap will air 30-minute episodes from 7.30pm across all weeknights – meaning Corrie fans will also lose half an hour that week.
The Britain’s Got Talent live shows will then air from 8-10 pm across the week.
Quick to criticise the schedule change were fans of both soaps.
Posting to Twitter, ITV viewers slammed the broadcaster for its “counterproductive” and “odd” decision.
One disgruntled fan wrote: “Are ITV trying to destroy its own soap ratings?
“I get not wanting to split BGT into two anymore but with a lot of Emmerdale and Corrie fans struggling with the new time slots, to put them back in their original slots for a week seems completely counterproductive.”
Another commented: “Corrie at 7.30 AGAIN? You are messing with my head ITV!
“I was already struggling with the move to 8pm and this will send me over the edge!”
A third said: “It seems odd to go back to half-hour episodes of Corrie for a week having only just normalised the hour long editions.”
Following the week of live shows, the Britain’s Got Talent live final will broadcast on Sunday, June 5.
The news comes as Emmerdale looks set to level up a number of its huge storylines over the coming weeks.
As well as Charity’s devastating struggles with her out-of-control son Noah, Faith Dingle’s heartbreaking cancer storyline will continue to unfold on screen.
On the week commencing Monday, May 30, Emmerdale will air weeknights from 7pm, Coronation Street will air weeknights from 7.30pm and Britain’s Got Talent will air weeknights from 8-10 pm.
