I'm A Celebrity's Babatúndé admits 'atmosphere changed' when Matt Hancock arrived

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Babatunde Aleshe has admitted the “atmosphere in camp changed” when Matt Hancock arrived in the jungle.

The comedian, 36, became the fifth celebrity to be voted out of the ITV reality series during Wednesday night’s episode (November 23).

Speaking after his exit, Babatude confirmed things did change in Australia when Matt, 44, made an unexpected appearance.

While revealing the celebs did “have opinion” on the former health secretary’s addition to the show, Baba also said he respected the MP for the apologies he made in camp.

Babatunde said: “Yeah definitely there [was a change in atmosphere] because he knows who he is, and we know who he is.

“We know exactly how the public perceive him and we have our own opinions but when you’re in camp it’s so different because it’s like you can’t think about the outside world, all you can think about is hey we have to win stars.

“So as much as we can have our opinions we have to rely on him and so to rely on him we have to encourage him and distance ourselves from any opinions.”

Describing the Tory MP as a “good sport”, Baba went on to explain that he wanted Matt to “be comfortable with being teased” during his jungle stint.

The Celebrity Gogglebox star added: “I’m from a different perspective, everyone else is coming from a perspective where they actually understand politics a bit more whereas I am coming from a working class perspective where it’s like I might not understand everything you do but certain things that you do are funny to me like the whole bum grab – all of that stuff, that’s what my generation and my culture would point out.

“I also spoke to him about how disappointed I was at how much he messed up.

“But you know what that guy I have to admit is someone who definitely is able to put his hands up and say ‘yes, I did wrong and I’m trying to right my wrongs’ and I commend him for that.”

Baba later confirmed he had meant “no harm” when he used the line “you were grabbing booty bruv” in a conversation with Matt about his in-office affair with his aide Gina Coladangelo in June 2021.

The incident was memorably caught on CCTV, with pictures from the saucy clinch going viral and ultimately leading to Matt’s resignation as health secretary.

Baba said: “I meant no harm by that joke it’s just me trying to mock him and involve him in the joke that’s all.”

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues at 9pm tonight (November 24) on ITV1.
