Tiger King star Joe Exotic has gone “missing” in prison, his lawyer has sensationally claimed.
Civil lawyer John M. Phillips turned to social media in an attempt to locate the Netflix star, who is being held in Butner Federal Medical Center in North Carolina.
Phillips feels said he needed to consult the zookeeper, who is serving 22 years for a plot to murder Big Cat Rescue founder Carol Baskin, ahead of his re-sentencing hearing in Oklahoma City this Friday.
Phillips wrote: “Good grief, The United States Department of Justice, US Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, where is Joseph A Maldonado?
“My legal calls rejected Friday and for this Monday. Opposing counsel won’t respond to me.
“The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBP) told me they won’t tell me when or where he’s being moved.
“We have a hearing – where is my client? FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation?”
He made his comments on Facebook and Twitter.
When later asked if he had “found” his client, Phillips wrote “sort of”.
Joe returned to screens from behind bars last year when Tiger King 2 debuted on Netflix.
The show’s second season covered the aftermath of Joe’s imprisonment and further delved into the theories surrounding Don Lewis’ disappearance.
Other big cat collectors included Tim Stark and Jeff Lowe were featured too.
A surprise third season was released in December too – The Doc Antle Story – which focused on Joe’s rival Mahamayavi Bhagavan “Doc Antle”.
While the first season received positive reviews from critics, the second was far less well received, with many noting that it didn’t really add much else to the salacious story.
Tiger King is available to stream on Netflix
