Prince Harry 'confused' by Meghan Markle as she mocks royal tradition in brutal dig

Meghan Markle has opened up on the moment she first met Queen Elizabeth II after her relationship with Prince Harry became serious – but she seemed to offend her husband in the process.

The pair discussed the fact that Meghan didn’t know how to curtsey and was left bewildered at the fact that she would need to do so to Harry’s grandmother.

Harry explained that The Queen was the first senior member of the Royal Family that Meghan met, but added that his now-wife had “no idea” what it all consisted of.

He added it was a “shock to the system” for her as Meghan reflected on the fact she didn’t know she was meeting The Queen until “moments before”.

Meghan recalled being asked by Harry if she knows how to curtsy, and the Duchess of Sussex admitted she thought he was “joking”.

As she reflected on the moment it happened, Meghan said: “I was starting to realise this is a big deal – American’s will understand this, we have Medieval Times, dinner and tournament. It was like that, I curtsied as though I was like…”

Meghan then bowed forward in a dramatic way while Harry watched her bend over her knees before slowly getting back up and saying: “Pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty.”

As Meghan described the moment as “so intense”, celebrity psychic and body language expert Inbaal Honigman recognised that it looked as though Harry appeared confused.

Inbaal said: “Throughout the joint interviews, Harry keeps his eyes on Meghan as much as he can, often seeking eye contact with her, to feel more together, for connection and reassurance.

“When Meghan recalls her curtsy, however, his eyes break away and look into the middle distance.

“He looks as if he’s trying to recall the memory of the actual moment when it happened in real life, and as if he’s trying to compare the dramatic retelling to the true events.

“When Meghan is done re-enacting that moment, which to her appears to have been very comical, Harry turns his face into a polite little smile, lips pressed shut. He’s looking at her face, seeking her eye contact.”

Inbaal added: “Curtsying has been a staple of his life since birth, and so he is not quite getting what’s so funny.”

She added: “Harry doesn’t appear offended at Meghan’s story telling, but he does appear a little surprised as he raises his eyebrows slightly.

“Aware as he is of his unusual upbringing, and fully accepting of the obvious quirks of his family’s traditions and obligations, his polite smile wonders whether the curtsy was really deserving of such a big laugh, when so many aspects of royal life are odder?”

Meghan has previously said she wasn’t aware that she would need to curtsy to The Queen and said it was the “first moment that the penny dropped”.

Harry & Meghan is now streaming on Netflix, with three more episodes set to be released next week.
