Sam Smith leaves fans gobsmacked with 'different' outfit as they arrive at BRIT Awards

Sam Smith left fans gobsmacked as they took to the red carpet at the BRIT Awards.

They turned up with their signature blonde short curls, wearing a “different” outfit made up of a black latex bodice, huge, oversized shoulder pads and ballooned trousers of the same material.

Topping off the look, Sam wore black latex gloves and platformed high heels.

Their stance showed that their outfit was seemingly uncomfortable, but a showstopper nonetheless.

One fan jumped on the look, offering their opinion, writing: “Different…” as another echoed: “Sam Smith what was that?”

However, someone else tweeted: “Honestly can everyone leave Sam Smith alone they’re amazing?”

Others were wondering how Sam would get around the arena in their outfit.”Be an absolute nightmare getting in & out of the car,” one suggested.

Another put: “Sam Smith fair play to him he’s getting everyone talking whether you agree or not but…..how the hell does he sit in a chair in that outfit? Does it deflate? Lol #ProperQuestions #Brits.”

Another hoped Sam used the outfit to its full advantage, writing: “Each of those legs better be filled with wine, otherwise a massive opportunity missed #BRITs.”

Sam, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, was among artists who initially called for the Brits to introduce gender-neutral categories, urging them to “be reflective of the society we live in.”

The BRITs made the change and since 2022 they have not used gendered categories for their awards, and have instead combined the four male and female awards for UK and international artists into Best Artist and Best International Artist.

However, this year’s awards were widely criticised after no female artists were nominated for Best Artist in 2023, much to Sam’s “frustration.”

“It’s incredibly frustrating,” they said. “It feels like it should be easy to do. [The BRITs] just have to celebrate everyone because this is not just about artists getting awards.”
