Oscar Curtis and Nathanial Dass have opened up about their close bond away from Hollyoaks.
The actors are currently playing Lucas Hay and Dillon Ray in the Channel 4 soap and are both currently involved in a hard-hitting storyline. Lucas is struggling with his sexuality and has very strong feelings towards his classmate Dillon in recent months.
Headteacher Carter Shepherd (David Ames) spotted signs of the two boys’ closeness and made it his mission to keep them apart, manipulating a confused Lucas into joining his Student Behavioural Unit, which is simply a guise for conversion therapy.

After a joke about his sexuality is made during a football pep talk in upcoming scenes, leaving Lucas rattled and Dillon offers his support. Their conversation leads to a moment where the two boys are about to kiss, but they get interrupted by Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams).
In a joint interview with Daily Star about their off-screen bond, Oscar told Daily Star: “We’re close in real life so it makes it so much easier working with someone you like spending time with. Nate does music, I love music and we both support the same football team so we watch games together and I think our friendship has grown as Lucas and Dixon’s relationship has grown.
“The first time I met Nate was when we did the screen test and the first thing we talked about what football and we’ve been close ever. It’s nice because in a take I can say ‘Nate, do you mind we do this like this’ or vice versa and I do my best to help him and he does his best to help me. Me and Nate laugh on set all the time. When we filmed the scene where they almost kissed, we were laughing all day and having fun.”
Nathanial added: “There’s always that reservation when you come and you think ‘Am I going to get on with this person?’ because you spend a lot of time together so there’s always a little bit of anxiety but it’s been so nice because we’ve come in and we just get on so well.
“When I joined Hollyoaks, they came to me with this storyline and I didn’t even know what conversation therapy was so I’m really grateful to be involved a storyline where I get to learn about something that effects a lot of peoples lives and the terrible things people have to go through. So it’s important we get it right.”
Next week, Lucas turns to John Paul McQueen (James Sutton) and asks him how you know if you want to be more than friends with someone. The conversation leaves him with food for thought and he seeks out Dillon. However Carter intercepts the chat and reiterates that the youngster “must” make better choices in life.
To celebrate Lucas becoming the football team’s captain, Dillon asks him if he wants to do something together but, given Carter’s recent manipulation, will Lucas find himself refraining from spending time with Dillon or will it push them closer together?
Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes are available to steam the Channel 4 website
