Marvel crew member tragically dies after ‘falling from rafters’ on Wonder Man set

A crew member working on the set of Marvel’s Wonder Man TV series has died following a tragic accident.

A rigger working on the show fell from a rafter on Tuesday morning (February 6) and died from their injuries. The fatality is said to have halted production on the series, which is currently being shot at Radford Studios in Los Angeles.

A Marvel spokesperson confirmed the news to Deadline in a statement. They said: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”

An investigation into the terrible incident has been launched by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. The union that is representing crew on the set, IATSE, issued a statement following the tragic news.

President, Matthew D. Loeb said: “Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues.

“Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can. If you feel unsafe on set for any reason, members can call the IATSE Safety Hotline at 844-422-9273 or use our safety info app.”

Riggers handle ropes, lifts, and other pieces of equipment on a film or TV set. They are often part of the stunts and special effects teams and normally help to fly actors on harnesses.

Wonder Man was first announced in June 2022 and filming began last year. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, famed for his role as Black Mata in Aquaman (2018), is the main star in the series.

The series follows Simon Williams, a wealthy industrialist rival to Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Simon gains super strength and teams up with villain Baron Zemo before switching sides and joining the Avengers.
