Lord Alan Sugar has paid tribute to his late brother Derek, who died of coronavirus in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The Apprentice boss, 73, revealed Derek had been suffering from underlying health issues when he contracted the virus, which has claimed the lives of thousands across the UK.
Announcing the sad news over Twitter, he wrote: “Today I lost my long-suffering brother Derek another victim of Covid which added to his underlying health issues.”
Bidding farewell to his brother, Lord Sugar looked back at a happy memory from their time together, recalling Derek’s love of football.
A longtime fan of the Spurs, Derek was apparently overjoyed when his younger brother became the club’s chairman in the early 90s.

Lord Sugar continued: “He was a lifetime passionate Spurs supporter.
“I never forget my sister in law joking with me thanking me for buying him the club.”
Bringing the heartbreaking statement to an end, Lord Sugar finished: “A sad day for us all in the family.”
The business magnate’s followers filled the thread below with messages of condolences, sending their thoughts to the Sugar family in the wake of Derek’s death.

“So so sorry for your family’s loss Lord Sugar. Those who dispute Covid as a myth/not serious need to read all these posts. It’s just so sad x,” penned a second.

Born in East London, the brothers grew up in a council flat in Hackney, with their dad Nathan working as a tailor in the city’s garment industry.
In 1991, Lord Sugar became the chairman and part-owner of Tottenham Hotspur football club.
In 2007, he sold his remaining stake in the Premier League football club to sports and media group ENIC International for £25million.
