Chris Hughes shows support for 'the best' Jesy Nelson as she quits Little Mix

Chris Hughes has shown his support for his ex-girlfriend Jesy Nelson, following news she is leaving Little Mix.

The singer, 29, announced her decision to leave the girl band, who are one of The X Factor’s biggest success stories, over Instagram on Monday afternoon.

Jesy had split from Love Island star Chris, 27, during the first lockdown in March, bringing their 16-month long relationship to an end.

When the Black Magic songstress shared her exit announcement on Instagram, Chris left a sweet message in the comment section below.

The reality star wrote “the best,” alongside a heart emoji, supporting her decision to leave.

In the statement, Jesy revealed she was leaving the girl group “with a heavy heart,” admitting the decision came after much consideration.

The Romford-born singer decided to leave the group to focus on her mental health, with the pressures of the band becoming overwhelming.

She said: “The truth is, recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.

“I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing things that make me happy.”

Jesy had previously documented her battle with mental health, and the trolling she faced as a member of a girl band, in the award-winning BBC Three documentary Odd One Out.

Chris featured in the documentary and was by her side when she received the NTA award for Best Factual Entertainment back in January.

Both Chris and Jesy have made it clear there are no hard feelings between them following the split, and both are reported to have moved on with new relationships.

In October, Jesy went public with actor Sean Sagar, while The Sun reported Chris had started dating model Mary Bedford in August.

The remaining members of Little Mix – Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Perrie Edwards – have also shown their support for Jesy following the announcement.

In a statement released by the band, they confirmed they would continue with their 2021 tour as a trio.

It read: “After an amazing 9 years together Jesy has made the decision to leave Little Mix. This is an incredibly sad time for all of us but we are fully supportive of Jesy.

“We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and well-being. We are still very much enjoying our Little Mix journey and the 3 of us are not ready for it to be over.”
