Piers Morgan says Meghan Markle has been 'great for his career' following award win

Piers Morgan has boasted that Meghan Markle has been ‘great for his career’.

The 56-year-old broadcaster appeared at the TRIC Awards earlier today (September 15), where he picked up the gong for TV Presenter of the Year.

Piers’ victory comes in the wake of his departure from Good Morning Britain in March.

The Life Stories host quit the ITV breakfast programme after refusing to apologise or take back statements in which he expressed disbelief over the Duchess of Sussex’s claims she was not helped by palace aides after informing them she was feeling suicidal during her pregnancy with her and Price Harry’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Piers’ controversial comments sparked a record 58,000 complaints to Ofcom.

However, in a ruling earlier this month, the TV regulator cleared ITV of any wrongdoing in broadcasting the comments in context with the views expressed by other presenters.

Speaking to Daily Star at the Tric Awards ceremony in London, Piers boasted about his victory.

He also offered his ‘thanks’ to Meghan, who he credited with helping his career.

Asked what Meghan would think of his win, Piers said: “Who cares… she’s been great for my career to be honest with you so I just want to thank her.

“We haven’t heard much out of her since the Ofcom win.

“It was a victory for free speech and whether people like me or don’t like me we are all entitled to an opinion.”

Piers reunited with his former GMB co-host Susanna Reid at the ceremony for the first time since quitting the programme.

She was also nominated for the TV Presenter of the Year award but lost out to Piers.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Wake Up! author slammed his former employer for interviewing former ISIS bride Shamima Begun on the programme.

Piers tweeted: “Interesting times we live in when an ISIS terror bride is allowed to exercise her right to freedom of speech on @GMB but I wasn’t.”
