Actress Denise Welch has revealed she “can’t quite function” following the death of her dad, Vin, aged 85.
Denise, 63, has documented her father’s health battle in recent months, with Vin spending some time in hospital as his health deteriorated.
Now, the Loose Women panellist took to her Instagram to share the devastating news that Vin has passed away with her online followers.
Matty Healy’s mum penned: “The words I’ve dreaded saying all of my life.
“Last night at 11pm, we lost our dad, the life force that was Vin Welch. After making a miraculous recovery recently from major surgeries, pneumonia plus his existing pulmonary fibrosis was more than even he could take.
“He left us surrounded by his family who could not have loved anyone more.”
The Hollyoaks actress continued: “I can’t quite function as I’m so grief-stricken, but I know he meant so much to so many people, even those who’d never met him.
“I’ve never seen anyone fight to stay longer at a party than dad and last night was no different.
“He loved life and lived it to the full like no other.”
She continued: “The nurses in Ward 6 at Durham University hospital will forever be in our hearts as they gave dad the most peaceful passing anyone could wish for. They adored him and he them. Heather, Helen, Lauren, Naz, Chloe, Graham, Debs to name but a few. We will NEVER forget you.
“Love you, dad. Heartbroken.”
Just last week, Denise revealed that her dad was once again in hospital as his health deteriorated.
Taking to Twitter, the Waterloo Road star said: “If masks work if vaccines work if the tests work… Why can’t my sister go and see my 85 yr old dad in hospital??? [sic].”
When asked how her dad was by a fan, Denise replied: “Fed up.”
The actress was instantly flooded with messages from fans and friends sharing their condolences, with one writing: “So very sorry for your loss, absolute legend.”

Before a third typed: “So so sorry Denise, sending so much love at this sad time.”
“So very sorry to hear of your loss. Thoughts are with you all,” commented a fourth.

As well as this, Vin had also performed as a drag queen, often keeping his online followers entertained with his alter-ego, Raquel.
