Strictly's Dan Walker admits avoiding raunchy dance moves as his sexy side has 'died'

Strictly star Dan Walker admits he can’t be raunchy on the dancefloor because his sexy side is dead.

While swimmer Adam Peaty set tongues wagging after appearing to almost kiss pro partner Katya Jones last Saturday, BBC Breakfast presenter Dan reckons he can’t produce that sort of passion.

“I don’t think I’ve got sexy Dan in me,” he says. “Sexy Dan died a long time ago, let’s be honest!”

Instead Dan channels more unusual inspiration, confessing he was thinking of toilet roll during his foxtrot on Movie Week.

So it’s no wonder his scores with partner Nadiya Bychkova went down the pan – they notched up just 21 points.

Dan says: “I think for me, the way I’m learning the dancing is I have to tell a story in my head all the time.

“So the way I learned the foxtrot is I imagined we’re baking a cake while we’re dancing around. And then there’s a weird bit where I’ve got to really get the flow on.

Despite wowing fans with this hot transformation, Dan confessed he was thinking of toilet roll during one of his recent performances

“So I told Nadiya about the famous Andrex advert, which is ‘Soft, strong, and very, very long.’ “It’s about 20 seconds in the dance where all I’m thinking about is toilet roll covered in butter!”

Dan, 44, also reveals he’s been training so hard for the ballroom he’s barely slept. “I’ve never been as tired,” he says. “I’ve never complained to Nadiya about being tired but I’m struggling. I’m averaging about four hours a night.

“‘On one day I went straight from the Prime Minister to Nadiya, it’s a lot. I’m so tired I fell asleep on a phone call.

“But I don’t want to complain about that because I’ve signed up for this and this is what happened.”

The TV host is also using a sauna to deal with the aches and pains caused by hours of training.

He says: “I only wanted it for a couple of weeks but I’ve had to loan it for at least a month. It’s about the size of a wardrobe and I’ve got it in my garage.

“I had to activate my bum during a dance and I realised I have a very inactive bum, so it was aching like nobody’s business. So it’s tough on your body, muscles you never knew you had.”

Dan, who will dance the Viennese waltz to Billy Joel’s She’s Always a Woman on Saturday, also can’t believe the change Strictly has caused in him.

He says: “When I watch myself dancing I don’t think it’s me. I can’t actually believe I’m doing that stuff.

“People keep coming up to me in the street and saying: ‘I thought you’d be awful, I thought you’d be horrendous.’ And I was like: ‘I know, so did I.’”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One
