Tom Fletcher announced he will be performing to a classic song from the musical Les Misérables for Musicals week on Strictly Come Dancing 10 years after he was forced to turn down a lead role in the West End production.
The McFly frontman, 36, and his dance partner Amy Dowden are set to perform an “emotional” couple’s choice routine to On My Own this weekend which will allow him to finally play the role of Marius on stage.
Doting dad Tom has always been a huge fan of the musical and was even offered a role in the successful production but was forced to turn it down at the last minute.
He was required to dedicate six months to the production which would start in the heart of London and then travel around the country, but the dates clashed with his upcoming tour with the band.
Two days into training with his professional ballroom dancer, the father-of-three shared the exciting news with his fans on Instagram.
He told his loyal legion of followers: “I am loving musical’s week so much, it is so fun. The dance we are doing to On My Own [from Les Misérables].
“Obviously I think those of you who have followed me for a while probably know the reason why I’m doing it but I will not say to much.
“But it’s a song that means a lot to me and my family, so it’s very emotional. And the dance insane.”
The pair then showed off their protective body gear which is used throughout the routine to help prevent them from getting injured during training.
Despite the layers of clothing and knee pads, the dancing duo both confessed they still both “ache a lot” even though they have just started their rehearsals for the upcoming dance show.
Speaking at the time, Tom recalled how he just missed out at the chance to join his West End sister Carrie Hope Fletcher.
He said: “I always wanted to play Marius in Les Misérables, I actually got offered the role but I had to commit to do it for six months, and as that meant I wouldn’t have been able to tour with McFly I turned it down.
“But then that was the year Harry did Strictly and Dougie did I’m a Celebrity, so I could have done it after all!”
