Piers Morgan joins millions of angry folk who have slammed Boris Johnson and the Conservatives over the Christmas party scandal last year.
The 56-year-old former Good Morning Britain star branded the Prime Minister and Torrie’s behaviour as “absolutely shameful” as leak footage of a press rehearsal circulated on Wednesday.
In the footage that is obtained by ITV News, Boris Johnson’s former press secretary Allegra Stratton can be seen having a good giggle while answering questions at a mock conference on December 22, 2020.
At the time, Ms Stratton was quizzed over rumours of a Conservative jolly-up that was suspected to have taken place on the previous Friday.
During the discussion, Ed Oldfield, a special adviser to Mr Johnson asked: “I’ve just seen reports on Twitter that there was a Downing Street Christmas party on Friday night, do you recognise those reports?”
In response, Ms Stratton added: “I went home” before the entire gathering joked about whether “cheese and wine” had been present at the evening event.
Ms Stratton then remarked: “This fictional party was a business meeting… and it was not socially distanced.”
Sharing the footage on his own social media feed, Piers added his own two-pennies about the situation.
He wrote on Twitter: “Wow. The big lie exposed, in their own damning words.
“And look how funny they all found it. I doubt the British public will find this quite so amusing.”
In a follow-up post, the former ITV star took particular aim at the Prime Minister, he commented: “Boris Johnson is continuing to lie about last year’s illicit Christmas party at No10 – even when we’ve all now seen his own spokeswoman on video laughing about it and wondering how best to lie about it to the media.
“Even by his standards, this is absolutely shameful.”
After the leaked video had circulated, a Downing Street spokesman still held the same position, adding: “There was no Christmas party. Covid rules have been followed at all times.”
There have since been cries for Boris Johnson to step down as the leader of the Conservatives.
