Axed Apprentice star slams Lord Sugar for 'twisting' BBC show after 'unfair' firing

The Apprentice star Amy Anzel has been axed by Lord Sugar after her tourism task went wrong – but she claims his firing was “unfair” and “unjustified”.

The BBC One show returned for its sixth week on Thursday night (February 10), and it saw the teams go head to head in Wales in a tense bid to put on a fun-filled adventure experience for tourists.

Amy’s team chose to provide a package which included a zip-line ride, a fact-filled tour of a local underground mine, and a mature cheese-tasting experience.

Sadly for Amy, though, her team lost and it was her time to leave the show – after landing in the boardroom with team leader Katherine Louise Burn and Aaron Willis.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star and other press, Amy admitted she was “gutted” to be fired by Lord Sugar, but she’s now fired back his reasons for kicking her off the series.

Speaking about her reaction to getting the chop, Amy said: “I was gutted. I was so sad and disappointed, but I’ve never seen someone fired by Week Six for not being PM and I thought ‘I’ve been sub-team leader for four out of six tasks’, I’ve been showing my skillset and my business acumen.

“I did put myself up as PM in Week Two and ultimately I’ve been contributing significantly to every single task. I was not hiding, I was not dodging so I just felt that it was a very unfair, unjustified firing.”

She went on: “I take calculated risks in life and in business and I never thought that that would be such a reason to fire someone.”

In the tense boardroom scene, Lord Sugar had told Amy that she had been “avoiding the spotlight” during the series by not putting herself forward as team leader.

Amy clearly disagreed though, because she swiped at the business magnate, saying he had “twisted” things to make it seem like she had been hiding when she hadn’t.

She said: “I’d like him to tell me how I was avoiding the spotlight. If you’re sub-team leader four out of six tasks, I don’t think that’s hiding, it’s sort of like being Vice President. It’s a big role and I took it on happily.

“That’s 67% of my time on the show, how could that not have been seen in a positive way? He kind of twisted it to make it seem like I was hiding in that role when I wasn’t.”

She later said Lord Sugar gave her co-star Nick Showering the chance to be PM the week after finding himself in the firing line, but she hadn’t been afforded the same luxury.

On which of her teammates she thought was going to be fired instead, Amy picked former RAF worker Aaron – who she described as a “ticking time bomb”.

“I really thought Aaron was going to be fired. Even though I said Katherine was responsible for the failure of the task, I do feel Aaron had already showed his true colours and was a bit of a ticking time bomb and was aggressive and would swoop in on people’s sales.”

“Just not, in my opinion, great traits and characteristics for a business person.”

Amy, who owns her own beauty brand Hollywood Browzer Beauty, stepped up to sell the Welsh adventure package to the public with Aaron, but their selling techniques didn’t seem to match.

In fact, Aaron looked visibly frustrated as Amy addressed the locals over a booming megaphone.

Thanking fans and the LGBTQ+ community for their support, Amy said: “It’s been amazing… I’ve made so many new friends online and in the Twitter world.”
