BBC Breakfast fans demand change to show after Naga Munchetty reacts to emotional news

BBC Breakfast viewers are frustrated by the amount of coverage that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is getting – something which comes after Naga Munchetty reacted to the emotional news.

After spending six years in Iran after getting arrested, Nazanin was given back her British passport earlier this week, and has since flown back to the United Kingdom.

Nazanin and Anoosheh Ashoori, who spent five years imprisoned, were flown from Iran to the UK on Wednesday (March 16).

Because of the joyous news surrounding Nazanin and Anoosheh being freed, many news outlets’ coverage has been dominated by it – but it seems to be proving too much for BBC Breakfast viewers.

The BBC is coming under fire for its coverage of British-Iranian mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe

Taking to Twitter to vent, one viewer penned: “OK, #BBCBreakfast , enough with Nazanin now. I was interested ten minutes back, now I’ve had enough. There is a LOT of other news, mostly bad, going on & the govt is doubtless delighted while you obsess on this.”

While another added: “It’s a very happy event with a great outcome but really !…. There’s is only so much you can say about the return of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe & Anousheh Ashouri. We’re all delighted. Now let’s leave them in peace & move on. #bbcbreakfast.”

A third then commented below a clip that the BBC Breakfast Twitter account posted about the ongoing segment, saying: “Now please leave them alone, they have relationships that need rebuilding and lots of private moments to catch up on.”

Somebody took it upon themselves to tweet BBC’s News Watch Twitter account to fume about the coverage, writing: “I am getting really angry about the coverage of the release of Nazanin. Of course it is great news! However there was someone else on the plane! Almost no mention on various BBC Platforms. His family are just as important as hers! Chasing Headlines!”

But most fans of the BBC are overjoyed by Nazanin’s return and the coverage surrounding it, with one sharing a BBC article and penning: “This made me so happy that I nearly cried on the commute home.”

While another added: “Such incredibly happy news. Overjoyed that Nazanin will finally be reunited with her family after such a long time.”

And a third said: “Wonderful to finally have some good news making the headlines. So happy for the families involved.”

Nazanin’s husband’s parents appeared on BBC Breakfast today

This came as Naga and Charlie Stayt interviewed Nazanin’s husband’s parents – Barbra and John Ratcliffe.

Barbra told the hosts of BBC Breakfast that she “can’t believe she’s home” and John said that he “won’t actually believe it” until he “sees it”.

Before Nazanin was freed and touched down in the UK, BBC favourite Naga spoke to Richard Ratcliffe’s sister-in-law Rebecca on Wednesday’s edition of her radio show.

Rebecca had told Naga: “When she’s on a plane that’s when we’ll dare to hope.”

British-Iranian mother Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe broke down in tears as she was reunited with her husband and daughter

She also revealed Nazanin’s daughter “keeps her cards close to her chest.”

When the news broke that Nazanin would be returning to the UK, Naga reacted to the joyous news when she retweeted a tweet from her colleague Nick Eardley, one of the BBC’s political correspondents.

Naga also reacted to the news when Nazanin touched down in the UK. Liz Truss shared the news on Twitter and the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg then quote retweeted it writing: “Finally – the confirmation,” and Naga retweeted Laura’s update as a show of respect.
