Emmerdale Cain Dingle actor Jeff Hordley has teased that viewers will be saying goodbye to a major character during the soap’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The ITV soap, which began in 1972, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a whole month of stories this October, which bosses said will “make you laugh, make you cry, make you surprised and stunts that are going to rock your world.”
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star and other press, Jeff has revealed that his character Cain will have a huge role to play as viewers say goodbye to fan favourite Faith Dingle – following her diagnosis with terminal cancer.

He said: “My character is involved in the Faith storyline, so there’s all this going on.
“I’m personally saddened to be losing the brilliant Sally Dexter, but it will give us some great stories going forward.”
Speaking about the storyline, which has seen Faith receive palliative treatment in recent weeks, Executive Producer Jane Hudson added: “The Faith story, which is such an emotional, heartbreaking story, is going to be huge across our 50th.
“I think everyone involved in that story is pulling out some of the most spectacular performances I have seen in soap for a long time.”
She also explained that the Faith’s death will also open the month of episodes that mark Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary.
“As we start the month, we will be focusing on our Faith storyline, which is a huge storyline for us at the moment. Then we will work our way into our storm week,” said Jane.
“Then when we get to the end of October, it might be the end of our celebrations, but we will be ending that month with a storyline, which kicks off a whole new story and potentially sees one of our characters looking at spending the rest of their life in jail.”
Jeff also hinted that another major storyline in the 50th anniversary celebrations will potentially see Chas Dingle and Al Chapman’s affair exposed – setting the stage for a major showdown between Cain and Al.
“Al and Cain have been circling each other for quite a while,” said Jeff.
“However, I think this is going to lead to something if he finds out. I think there could be fireworks.”
