I'm A Celeb's Ant and Dec dress up Daily Star lettuce and make name announcement

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have given their Daily Star lettuce a name – and dressed it up ready for its jungle adventure.

The popular pair have been spending time with their new pal as they pit it against current Camp Leader Matt Hancock to see who lasts longer.

Readers will remember that the Daily Star’s Lettuce Liz outlasted former Prime Minister Liz Truss and her brief 45-day stint in Downing Street as leader of the Conservative party.

Now, the latest mighty lettuce is set to take on Matt to see if it can once again secure a salad victory over the former Health Secretary who became Camp Leader on Sunday (November 13) after winning a trial alongside his appointed deputy Charlene White following a public vote that saw him poll top alongside Mike Tindall to become leader.

Taking to Instagram to show their lettuce off, Ant and Dec let one lucky follower name the newcomer during a live session on the app, settling on the moniker Spud.

They then announced the name in the caption posting: “Spud the lettuce initiation ceremony… complete.”

But not happy with just naming Spud, they set about adding some extra character and depth by dressing the leafy green up with a Mr Potato Head style set of feet, eyes, and a grinning mouth – just like Lettuce Liz.

Spud has been heavily featured on their social media account ever since, posing in a series of pictures with the iconic presenting duo as they support his bid to defeat Hancock in the jungle sharing the snaps with anticipation writing: “Lettuce V camp leader… the wait is on #ImACeleb Lettuce see how this evolves…”

Spud has also made regular appearances in their post-show lives over the last day or two, with no signs of wilting in the hot humid conditions of the Australian outback just yet.

Viewers of Monday’s show were stunned when Matt finally evaded taking part in a trial as campmates Boy George, Babatunde Aleshe, and Chris Moyles were given the task instead.

The welcome announcement came after the MP completed his sixth consecutive trial – Deserted Down Under – which saw him buried alive in a creepy crawly filled coffin as he grappled to find keys to unlock stars in the dark.

The challenge saw him further overcoming his fear of snakes as 30 of them were released into the coffin with him and began slithering all over his body – including one that ventured up the leg of his shorts leaving viewers in hysterics.

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV and ITV Player.
